AN: Hey guys! Hope you're all OK! This oneshot is for the lovely bookworm23821, who won the first round of my "School Trip With A Twist" guessing game - I hope this is cute enough for you! My apologies if River is a little OOC, this is my first attempt at writing her.

Enjoy! :)

River is on the run from a platoon of Judoons when she thinks she sees a familiar floppy-haired face in the shadows. She shakes her head to dislodge the thought and carries on running. However, the split-second of divided attention is enough to slow her down just enough for one of the Judoon to round the corner and fire its weapon after her, and she loses her footing in surprise when the blast of the laser skims across her arm, scorching the skin and causing her to hiss in pain. Before she has time to react and try to regain her balance a pair of wiry yet strong arms are wrapped around her and she is pulled to one side, down a small alleyway hidden in the darkness. She suppresses her instinct to kick and scream, however, because she knows that only one man would dare get that close to her.

"Hello, sweetie" she purrs, looking up at the familiar face.

"Look at the mess you've got yourself in" he replies, tone light as he takes in the wound with concern, arms still around River's waist. She finally stands and plants a kiss on his cheek, chuckling at the slight blush it provokes. Her chuckle is cut short by the firm pressure of his lips on hers, and they stand there for a moment just breathing each other in, foreheads resting together. After a while, he pulls back just enough to offer her his arm.

"Let's go get you cleaned up" he says with a smile. Grinning back at him fondly, she takes his arm and he leads her to the TARDIS and lets them both in. Leaving her to get herself settled, he dashes off, rummaging around several rooms before finally finding a first-aid kit in a bathroom he'd forgotten existed. He returns to the centre console brandishing the box and grinning triumphantly at River, who rolls her eyes fondly at him. She reaches out to take it, but the Doctor holds it away from her reach and takes hold of her outstretched hand.

"I'm perfectly capable of doing it myself" she says, but there's no heat in her words as she narrows her eyes playfully at him.

"What kind of husband would I be if I didn't take care of you?" he taunts, eyes glittering with mischief.

Rolling her eyes again, she allows him to clean up the wound on her arm. Gritting her teeth slightly, she soundlessly bears the sting of antiseptic on the burn, before the Doctor wraps a small piece of bandage around it, tying the ends with a flourish.

"Voila!" he chuckles, stepping back a little to admire his handiwork.

"Haven't you forgotten something?" River asks, looking up at him. Suppressing a giggle at the adorable look of confusion on his face, she prompts, voice smooth: "aren't you going to kiss it better?"

Understanding and amusement bloom on the Doctor's face, and he leans in and places a soft kiss over the bandage.

"Happy?" he raises an eyebrow at her in challenge.

"Not quite" she replies, pulling him closer by his lapels and kissing him soundly. She eventually releases him after nipping at his bottom lip, and he stumbles backwards a few steps, blushing and swollen-lipped.

"It's been a long day, I think I'll go take a nap" she announces, smiling warmly at the still slightly dishevelled Doctor, kissing him tenderly on the forehead before heading for one of the TARDIS's many bedrooms.
