Memories and Goodbyes

Katie Bell dragged her trunk down to the Gryffindor Common Room. It was the last day of her fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and all the students were busy packing and getting ready to head home for the summer.

Katie noticed Oliver Wood's trunk by the armchair in the corner, but didn't see him anywhere in the room. As it was Oliver's last day at the prestigious boarding school, she'd wanted to say goodbye to her friend. He may have been a demanding Quidditch coach, but his enthusiasm and heart had inspired her and helped make her the player she was today.

"Anyone seen Oliver?" she called out to the room.

"I think I heard something about him saying goodbye to Professor McGonagall," her friend, Alicia Spinnet replied.

"Thanks, Alicia. Mind my trunk?" Katie said as she left the room.

Katie knocked on the door of the transfiguration professor's office. "Hello?" she softly called out as she opened the door. She stifled a giggle when she saw Oliver hugging the Quidditch Cup, his cheek tightly pressed against it.

"Shall I leave you two alone?"

Embarrassed, Oliver placed the trophy back on the teacher's credenza before turning to Katie, a slight blush on his cheeks. "I just wanted to say goodbye to it, you know," he said softly. "I can't believe we finally won it my final year of school... dream come true."

"You deserved it, Oliver," she said, placing her hand on his arm. "You worked hard. You made us work hard. We couldn't have done it without you."

"Thanks." He pulled his teammate into a hug, clapping her on the back. "Make sure you win it again next year," Oliver demanded with a smile on his face.

"Yes sir," Katie answered, giving him a squeeze before finally releasing him. "The team won't be the same without you. We'll miss you."

"I'll miss you too," Oliver remarked as his gaze went from Katie, around the room, to the Quidditch Cup, and back to her. "I'll miss it all."

Giving him one final squeeze and a smile, Katie said, "Goodbye Oliver," then left the young man to his memories.
