I do not own The Legend of Korra or anything Avatar related

Set 2 years after the LoK finale. Jinora is 16 and Lily is 17. Tenzin and his kids and Lily are still the only air benders.

Swinging her bag over one shoulder and her flowing locks of hair over the other, Lily grabbed Jinora's arm as she bolted from the school's doors at the sound of the bell.

"Jin, hurry up! Narook's is 10 minutes away and we only have an hour for lunch."

Yanking her arm from her cousin's tight grip, Jinora jogged to keep up. "Ok, relax, I'm coming. You should have remembered your lunch today, and we wouldn't be in this mess. Or you could have just had some of mine."

Coming to an abrupt stop, Lily turned and placed her hands on the shorter girl's shoulders. "Jinora, my sweet, my dearest, my best friend, my other half. I love you, truly, but there is no way I would survive on those vegetables you eat every day." Though she was an accomplished air blender, Lily took after her meat loving parents.

Rolling her eyes, Jinora continued leading the way to Narook's, ignoring Lily's theatrics behind her.

Growing up together, the girls formed an inseverable bond. The best of friends, they did nearly everything together. Lily, the more rebellious of the two, often got herself and Jinora into sticky situations, to the displeasure of her Uncle Tenzin and Aunt Pema. Both air bending prodigies, they even received their tattoos together on the same day nearly six years prior. After discovering that their parents had dated during their youth, they took to telling anybody who would listen that they were basically sisters.

Stretching out at their table of Narook's, Lily rubbed the back of her neck, easing the tension there as she surveyed the crowd. Catching sight of a boy sitting across the restaurant looking in their direction, she sat up straight as she realized who his attention was focused on. A sly grin on her face, she nudged Jinora, pointing her chin in his direction.

"Hey, Jin, that guy over there has been checking you out the entire time we've been here."

Craning her neck to see who Lily was talking about, Jinora blushed a crimson red as she locked eyes with the boy in question. Sputtering, she waved her hand in dismissal. "What? No, you're seeing things." Pressing a hand to her cheek, she willed her face to return to its normal color.

Taking in her cousin's reaction, Lily arched an eyebrow. "Ms. Jinora, do you have a crush?"

Letting out a nervous chuckle, Jinora ran a hand through her hair. "Absolutely not. You're delusional, Lily. Let it go."

Pursing her lips, Lily slowly got out of her seat. "Ok, great. So you wouldn't mind if I went over there and asked him out then?"

Her arm moving so fast it was a mere blur, even Jinora herself seemed a little surprised at how fast she grabbed Lily's wrist, keeping her in place. "Lily, don't you dare." Clearing her throat, she released her death grip on Lily. "Besides, you have Skoochy, remember?"

Rubbing at her wrist, Lily sat back down. "Relax, I was just kidding. Don't panic, but here he comes now."

Snapping her head around, Jinora blanched. Sure enough, tall with glowing bronze skin, dark brown hair and green eyes, wearing green tinged clothes, came the aforementioned boy. Gliding across the dining room, he came to a stop at their table.

"Ladies." His voice deep, he pressed a kiss to the back of each of their hands, lingering a few seconds longer on Jinora's. "How are you doing today? My name is Kai."

Jumping in before Jinora could speak, Lily reached out her hand again, giving Kai's a firm shake. "I'm Lily, but that's not what you came here for. This is my cousin, Jinora. What's your age, what do you do, and where is your family from?"

Cheeks an even brighter red, Jinora leveled Lily with a stare. Stammering, she faced Kai. "You don't have to answer that."

Smiling, he shook his head. "It's fine. I don't mind. I'm 18. I'm a mechanic with Future Industries. I'm working personally with Asami Sato in inventing a new and improved engine for the Sato mobiles. As for my family, that's unimportant. I'm here now, and there's a million things I haven't done."

Pursing her lips, Lily nodded. "Asami Sato, you say. We'll have to ask her about you. She's a close family friend, you see. In fact, she's going to be at our family dinner tonight with her wife, Korra. You know, the Avatar. Our grandfather's reincarnation."

Shifting his weight from one foot to the other, Kai nervously ran a hand through his hair before nodding. "That's fine. Have I passed your test?"

Shrugging, Lily gestured towards Jinora. "I'm satisfied. You'll have to get through my uncle Tenzin though. Good luck with that."

Chuckling, Kai finally turned towards Jinora. "Jinora, you've already heard so much about me, and I know nothing of you yet, other than the fact that you are stunningly beautiful." Ignoring Lily's scoff, he focused on Jinora's flustered face. "I was wondering if you would accompany me to tea this weekend? I would love to learn more about you."

Biting her lip, Jinora lowered her eyes to the table as she nodded. "I would love to." Quickly exchanging contact information, the pair set up a date for Saturday afternoon.

Turning to Lily who was basically bouncing in her seat, the pair held in their excited screeches until Kai had left the shop. Eventually calming down, they quickly paid for the food and made their way back to school, already 15 minutes late for their next class.

That night for dinner, Air Temple Island was more than crowded. Joining Tenzin's family for dinner was not only the Beifongs, but Korra with Asami and the 4-year-old girl they recently adopted, Bolin and his fiancée, Opal, her stomach slightly rounded with their first child, and Mako and his shadow, Prince Wu. It wasn't every day that they could get together, but the few times a year all their schedules synced up made for a joyous event.

Clearing her throat over the din of conversation, Lily waited until everyone's attention was on her. "Excuse me, everyone. I have an announcement to make. Jinora has a boyfriend."

Choking on her noodles, Jinora landed a swift punch on her cousin's shoulder. "No, I do not!"

"Excuse me, who is this boy?" Placing his chopsticks down, Tenzin steepled his fingers under his chin.

Excited, Lily quickly recounted the tale. "His name is Kai. Asami, he said he works for you. He is-"

"He is not my boyfriend!" Glaring at Lily, Jinora physically restrained herself from further injuring her cousin, her monk training coming to mind.

"Good. You're much too young for a boyfriend." Picking up his chopsticks again, Tenzin huffed under his breath.

"Sweetheart, she's 16. She isn't." Placing a hand on his back, Pema rubbed soothing circles across his shoulder blades.

Opening his mouth to protest, Tenzin was cut off by Lin jumping in. "Listen to your wife, Tenzin. Jinora is almost an adult. If I remember correctly, we started dating when I was 16."

Leveling her with a look, Tenzin pointed a single chopstick in Lin's direction. "Exactly."

Chuckling, Bumi lightly tossed a dumpling across the table at Tenzin. "Oh, lighten up, Arrowhead. Jinora isn't a baby anymore. You raised a smart girl, you should give her a little more freedom."

"Do you really feel that way, Daddy?" Plastering a smile on her face, Lily eyed her parents from where she sat.

Instantly on the defense, Bumi narrowed his eyes at his daughter. She only called him daddy nowadays when she was trying to suck up to him. "Yeah. You and Jinora are very responsible for your ages."

Sighing, Lily rested her hands against the table. "You know what, I'm so glad you said that Dad. Skoochy asked me to move in with him next month when I turn 18, and I said yes."

Sputtering, Lin choked on her dumpling the same time Bumi spit his water out across the table and straight into Bolin's face. Locking eyes for a brief second, they turned towards their only child at the same time.

"What?!"

And there it is! The end. A big thank you again to everyone who has read this and who has ever reviewed. There were times I felt like giving up, but your kind words always pushed me to finish.

I hope you enjoyed the family dynamic. Lily is a mix of her parents, loud and in your face like Bumi, and tough and determined like Lin. She may take after Bumi a little too much.

Did you catch my Hamilton references? I'm slightly (read: very) obsessed with the musical.
