Based off of Tomorrow Will Be Kinder, and a quote. I own nothing.

She screams in her sleep. She screams such terrifying, spine-tingling, heart-breaking screams. It's tough sometimes, because he just doesn't understand what happens inside her mind. A baker like him knows nothing of the harsh reality she's faced, and will face once again. So he can only comfort.

"Shh, Katniss," he whispers, rubbing her back as she tries to reduce her cries into hiccups.

"It never gets easier," she says. He hears her say that sometimes in her sleep.

"It's okay. You'll be alright," he says, though tears are already pricking the back of his eyes. Sometimes he wonders why. Why she picked him, why she let Gale be killed, why the Capitol doesn't know when enough is enough… and often, the answers are the same. He doesn't know.

Her tears subside, though he can still feel her heart going a mile a minute. Sometimes he remembers his mother singing him to sleep as a child. He isn't the best singer, but he's someone, at least.

"Tomorrow will be kinder," he sings quietly. "It's true, I've seen it before. A brighter day is coming our way," he puts his arms around her in a tight embrace. Her breathing is normal again, and her heartbeat's slow. Sometimes, he thinks he knows the reason why she chose him.

"Yes, tomorrow will be kinder."
