Unnerved

"You live here?" Kagome was nearly speechless at the grandeur living arrangements before her. Almost speechless. Marble, bronze, and white and cream linens was the guy's theme. Hell, it almost feels like she died and went to where Zeus and the Greek Gods lived.

Sesshoumaru shrugged, indifferent to her incredulous reaction. "Yes," he simply said, giving his suit's blazer to his butler. "Ready a room for Miss Kagome Higurashi. She will be residing her until further notice."

The butler obediently nodded and scurried off to do his master's bidding. The other servants bowed, noting that the master has not requested anything of them, and made their way back to their tasks.

Sesshoumaru motioned for her to follow him with a twitch of his well manicured fingers. He hadn't waited for her response before he turned around, walking to the ornately carved, maple double doors at the back of the foyer. A set of stairs adorned the left and right side of the foyer, leading to a balcony with some seating she could spot from her position.

Kagome deducted that Sesshoumaru had an expensive taste, but is somewhat a minimalist. The steps of the stairs, of course, were paved with marble, the rails were a bright earthy bronze, and a cream colored woven cloth, almost like velvet, softened the steps of the stairs. The ceiling above her hung a breathtaking chandelier of white and gold tinted glass nearly as wide as a length of a bathtub.

There were beautiful, lively green plants placed strategically around the rooms. Their presence instantly breathing life in otherwise a cold, almost lonely looking home.

"Come," he gestured, tossing a glance over his shoulder before pushing the double doors open.

The two walls to her left and right were filled with shelves of mint-condition books of all shapes and colors. To the right of her was a fireplace of a warm, red bricks and a dark wooden mantle. In front of her, connecting the two walls was a window as expansive and large as the wall itself. A beautiful white rug of the softest white fur rested below an extravagantly carved dark maple desk that faces the fireplace. Another chandelier hung above their heads, centered over another seating area in front of the fireplace.

Sesshoumaru gestured to one of the two identical sofas facing each other, while he eased himself onto the upholstered chair that sat adjacent to the coffee table and sofa. He stared in front of him, gazing into the fireplace with an unwavering intensity.

It unnerved Kagome.

She knew he was well off, and a youkai that had been living for centuries, but the sheer extravagance gave her a glimpse just how powerful this creature is. And how vulnerable she is, in the heart of a lion's den. She didn't belong here. She didn't deserve such a powerful being's help. She was nothing of importance... to him, or anyone. She needed to free him from this sinking sandpit she drew him into.

She needed to let him go... and she was so afraid. Afraid to lose what didn't belong to her in the first place.

"This one will not hurt you. Come, there are details we must discuss," his cool baritone voice vibrated the air around her.

Stiffly, she made her way to the sofa he had gestured to just a moment ago. She sat down rigidly, wary to not damage the expensive materials around her.

"Miss Higurashi, I-" he began.

Kagome quickly cut him off. "I'm sorry," she interjected. "I don't mean to interrupt but. I don't belong here. I'm so grateful to you, Mr. Taishou for helping me as much as you did. But I don't want to be anyone's burden. Especially yours, since you have nothing to do with me and my baby." She emphasized her gratitude to the best of her abilities, bowing her head to him, showing him her appreciation for the first time since she has known him.

"I know you pity me. I mean, I would be too if I were you. With all my heart, I thank you for sparing my mother's heart from the truth. And for offering to take me in but... this is too much. I- I thought I could be selfish and let you take care of me. I- I just can't keep taking advantage of you anymore!" Kagome shot up onto her feet, tears cascading down her clenched eyes.

"Thank you for everything, truly. I wish you the best," she finished with a whisper, and dashed towards the double doors of his grand study.

"If you want to live," Sesshoumaru bellowed after her, still seated in his chair.

Kagome halted at the doorway, this time, truly speechless. She turned around on her heels, a frightened expression on her face.

"The baby," he narrowed his eyes at her abdomen, his restraint and composure gone.

"... Is the spawn of Naraku," a familiar voice growled behind her.

JR- tada! Finally trying to move things along. The happiness is yet to come folks. I suppose I need to turn this into a proper story... but I'm just winging it!
