This One is Different
Chapter 14
Don't even look at me. It has been far too long. I don't even know where this update has come from.
Sitting beside Rory on the couch felt extremely . . . comfortable. For a long, long time Jess hadn't ever felt comfortable with anyone but here, with this brown haired girl beside him everything felt right.
He felt like he was in a novel, one of those corny male Mr Darcy characters who shows off male bravado but underneath is all snuggly and cute. It kind of made him want to gag.
Rory laughed at the TV where they were watching Jimmy Fallon have a lip sync battle with some random actor he'd never heard of. He kissed her on the side of the head and settled back in his seat. Taking the weekend off was a great idea, even though he may have to settle with sleeping on the couch. He'd never assume that she would let him share her bed. He tried not to think about that too much, or else that led him down a line of thought that was highly inappropriate, since they'd only been newly together for a couple of weeks, less than a month actually.
Jess couldn't really believe it. He'd screwed up everything for such a long time that he had never assumed he'd be with her again, let alone with her in her apartment, all by themselves.
He shook his head. Those thoughts would lead to nothing but disaster. However he couldn't stop thinking about it.
In highschool, he and Rory had kissed a lot, and gone a whole lot further than he assumed Lorelai knew about, but with their freakishly close relationship, Jess understood that Lorelai might know more than he knew. He didn't want to dwell on that too much because it was kind of a gross thought. They'd never had sex but there had been a lot of thinking about it on both ends.
Jess loved Rory. He'd screwed up by pressuring her before and he didn't want to do that again so she would have to be the one to push for the next step. As she cuddled into him he realised he didn't even know if she was a virgin. It'd be naïve for him to think that she was, considering that Logan guy and also Dean. She'd mentioned dating Dean again and he hated that. He absolutely hated the thought that Rory may have been with Dean.
Jeez, he hated Dean.
Rory laughed beside him and he looked at her without her knowing, smiling at her. He began drawing shapes on her bare arm, not noticing the reaction she had. Just being here with her was enough for him. He didn't care that he'd have a lot of work to do on Monday, much more than he had let on to her. Every moment he could get with her was worth it, especially when she was surrounded with other guys at college all day every day.
It didn't matter, he decided. It didn't matter if she was a virgin, or whether she'd slept with Dean or Logan or any other random guy. She was here with him and that was what counted.
"Hey Jess?" Rory asked.
"Mmmm?" he mumbled, against where he was kissing her neck gently. He was slightly distracted and wasn't paying much attention.
"If our lives were a TV show, what would it be called?" At this incredibly strange question, Jess sat up straighter and looked at her weirdly.
"What do you mean?" he asked.
"I mean, if you and me, and Luke and Mum were in a TV show, what would it be called?" She grinned at him and he decided to have a bit of fun.
"It would be called 'Gilmore Girls'" he said with a smile, turning to face her. "It would be based in Stars Hollow and people would love it because of all the random characters such as Kirk and Taylor and Patty." She grinned at him so he decided to continue. "Luke's coffee would feature a lot and it would be all about you and Lorelai and all your dramas."
"Dramas?" Rory asked with a laugh. "What sort of dramas?"
"Oh you know. Creating an inn, finding out that Luke has another daughter who is a teenager, you and Lorelai fighting and you moving in with your grandparents. Oh, and don't forget you stealing a boat because you were emotional."
"Cause, you know I want to take to the sea," Rory added, with a laugh.
"And all of these dramas, would lead to the conclusion that you are young and need to have all these things happen to have a full life," Jess finished, quite pleased with himself.
Rory was quiet for a moment, before she cracked up laughing hysterically.
"And you call yourself a writer!" she gasped out and Jess laughed with her.
"What's the most unbelievable part?" he asked. "Is it Luke having a kid or you stealing a boat?"
"Honestly, all of it does. Particularly the thought of me living with my grandparents after fighting with Mum. That would kill her!" Rory said. "Maybe it's better if my life isn't a TV show. It would really suck."
"Oh I don't know," Jess said, pulling Rory into his lap so that she was sitting with both knees on each side of his. "There is some silver linings."
"Like what?"
"Let me think." Jess kissed her soundly on the lips and then once more on the neck. "There's this guy that keeps showing up," he kissed her on her left shoulder, "he's a bit of a dick to start with but he likes you."
"Yeah?" whispered Rory, as his lips ghosted over the space free from her shirt.
"Yeah," Jess said hoarsely, "Nobody thinks he's good enough for you and he disappears for a while but," he paused to kiss her behind her ear, "he comes back again and again, trying to prove himself to you."
Jess stops his story to kiss her anywhere she has bare skin. She interrupts him by saying "Does he?"
"Does he what?" mumbles Jess, against the hollow in her neck.
"Prove himself to her?" He pulls away from her to smile charmingly.
"Of course. What sort of TV show would that be if he doesn't succeed?" She laughs and kisses him on the lips.
He wouldn't let her get away that easily. He put his arms around her back and pulled her even closer, so he could feel her breath on his face. She kissed him, moulding both their faces together. Her tongue outlined his lips and he groaned into her, kissing her more and more fiercely, trying to convey all the feeling he could. Rory pushed him back into the couch and began to kiss his neck, kissing, biting and sucking, any spot she could reach. He closed his eyes, breathing heavily as his hands ran up and down her sides, touching the bare skin that appeared as her t-shirt rode up.
"Jess," Rory panted, in between kisses. He groaned in response. "Take your shirt off."
Jess didn't think twice.
Pushing her gently forward, he gripped his shirt from the neck and pulled it off, grabbing her again, connecting their lips this time, once more. She ran her hands down his chest and he felt about ten degrees warmer. He kissed her more frantically and his hands reached down to her shirt, touching the skin on her stomach. She pulled back from him and stared at him with a blazing look in her eye before reaching down and pulling her shirt off and tossing it to the side.
Rory smiled at him tentatively and he knew that she was nervous but he just motioned her closer. Taking hold of her face he kissed her gently, pulling on her bottom lip, causing her to groan. Noting how small the couch was for these activities, he pushes her up and then down to the ground, thanking heaven that it was carpeted. He manoeuvred her sp that she was under him and he got to work kissing her, moving further down her body, now that her shirt was gone. She felt so soft and beautiful.
He stopped at one point to look at her and she touched his lips softly. She whispered for him to kiss her and he ed making her gasp with how quickly he does so. His hands run up her sides and he goes to touch her –
"Hey Gilmore, I need to get my craft – Oh bloody hell!" Paris Gellar's loud and indignant voice broke them out of their make out induced minds much to Jess' displeasure. Rory sat up extremely quickly and grabbed her shirt from the ground as Paris grumbled and mumbled to herself.
"For crying out loud, Gilmore, we have our own rooms! At least put a tie on the door or something I don't need to see that!"
"You didn't see anything Paris, just stop."
"At least Doyle and I have the decency to warn you! You just are there and kiss each other. It's ridiculous!"
Jess held back his laughter as Rory and Paris stood and argued with each other. He found his shirt and put it on regretfully running his hand through his hair. He sneaked a peek at her and was pleased to see a blush on her cheeks, along with her very mussed up hair. She looked like she had been made out with.
To be perfectly honest he was glad Paris came in at that point. He had completely forgotten that they were in her lounge room of her apartment. He much rathered someone see him shirtless than his bare ass on the ground on top of his girlfriend.
Jess picked himself up off the floor when Paris stomped out of the room and he winked at Rory, who blushed and looked at the floor. Trying to hold back his laughter, he looked around and asked "Rory, where do you keep your blankets and stuff?"
She looked at him confused and answered "They're in the top of my closet. Why?"
"For the couch." She looked at him, not comprehending so he continued. "So I can sleep on the couch and not freeze?"
"Jess you don't need to sleep on the couch!" she protested.
"Where am I going to sleep then Rory?" he asked with a smirk. "I think Paris would stab me if I slept in her bed. That leaves the couch, right?" He ended the statement with a question, interested to see her reaction. She mumbled something and he looked at her questioningly.
"What was that?"
"I said you could always share my bed." She didn't meet Jess' eyes and he knew that as much as he wanted to he wouldn't do that.
"I think I'm still gonna sleep out here," he said. Something like embarrassment flooded her eyes. She nodded quickly and ducked into her room, returning two seconds. She passed him a pile of blankets and a pillow.
"Ok ,well goodnight!" She turned to go into her room but Jess grabbed her arm gently pulling her to him.
"Everything ok in there?" he said quietly, tapping her head.
"Yep."
"You sure?"
"Positive."
"Ok."
"Ok."
"You'd tell me if there wasn't, right?"
"Of course."
He turned to go to the couch when she said hesitantly "I just thought you might want to sleep in my bed. With me."
He sighed, feeling like an ass. "Rory, if you couldn't tell from before we were interrupted by Paris, I very much do."
"Then why the couch?"
He laughed to himself. "I'm worried that we're going too fast and I don't want to pressure you, like I did… before." He looked at the ground and heard her walk and stand in front of him. She lifted his chin and kissed him sweetly on the lips.
"You don't need to worry Jess, I trust you. But thankyou." She kissed him again and whispered "Goodnight" against his lips, before walking into her room and shutting the door.
Jess settled himself onto the couch and lay back looking at the ceiling, and he couldn't help think how ridiculously chivalrous he was.
Rory laid in her bed and stared up at the ceiling.
She was overthinking.
She knew she was but she couldn't stop it. He didn't want to sleep with her tonight. She knew that she had overreacted slightly but hurt had flooded her when he had said he wasn't going to share his bed.
His kisses flooded her mind and she wanted more. It was like an addiction. She was sure Paris would have something to say about that.
When Paris walked in, Rory was annoyed. Jess' hands on her chest and stomach made butterflies explode inside her and all she knew was that she wanted more. It wasn't just sex. She wanted to be with him and forget all about any other guy.
Dean.
Rory sat up in bed with her head in her hands as she realised that Jess didn't know about her and Dean and that whole situation. He thought she was still a virgin. That's why he wasn't rushing her. He didn't want to pressure her.
She felt sick to the stomach. How was she going to tell him that her first time was with Dean? A married Dean at any case?
He'd be mad and leave. She stared up at the ceiling, realising that not everything was as easy as she thought it was when she and Jess were making out on the couch. How do you even start a conversation like that? Jess, I slept with my married ex-boyfriend a couple of weeks after you told me you loved me. What are your thoughts on that?
She groaned out loud and lay back down again, turning on her side. Maybe things would be easier in the morning.
"Rory!" Dean said, walking towards her. He kissed her on the lips and she felt her face turn into a smile, even though her mind was screaming at her to stop. "I love you, you know that right?"
"I love you too," Rory said.
"Hey Ace, what about me?" Logan came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist pulling her close. He kissed her on the cheek and she smiled.
"Rory?" She turned to see Jess standing there in a black tux. "What's going on?"
"Oh Jess, I love you too!" She said giggling, looking down at the obvious wedding dress she was wearing.
"I thought . . . I thought you wanted to marry me," Jess said, a look of shock on his face.
"I do," suddenly desperation seized her as Logan's grip tightened on her and Dean grabbed her hand. She was connected to these two other guys and she watched as Jess just shook his head.
"No wait! Jess!"
"Goodbye Rory," he said quietly, walking away.
"No! Jess! Wait!" She pulled against Logan and Dean and tried to reach for him. "Wait! Jess!"
Jess sat up when he heard a cry that sounded suspiciously like his name. When he heard it again he jumped up and went into Rory's room where he saw her tossing and turning in her sheets.
"Rory?" He went over to her and grabbed her hands trying to still her. "It's just a dream! It's just a dream, calm down." After a minute more of struggling, Rory gasped really loudly and her eyes shot open. Breathing heavily she put her head into her hands and gave a great sob.
Jess sat down on the edge of her bed and pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly as she trembled.
"Bad dream?" he asked quietly when she had calmed down a bit.
"A terrible one," she croaked, wiping her arms.
"You were calling my name," Jess noticed. "Anything to do with me?"
She nodded and he tried not to let that hurt him.
"I'm not going to hurt you Rory," he said. "I'm better now."
"That's not what it was about," she said. "It was me, hurting you."
"Well that's a role reversal," Jess commented, succeeding in making her laugh.
They were quiet for a moment and she sighed, pushing him away a bit. "I need to tell you something," Rory said, not looking at him. "And this may change everything but I just need to tell you because we're in a relationship and I want to be honest with you."
"Ok. Go ahead." Jess tried not to show his nervousness in his face, even though he wished he could just kiss her and make her forget her dream.
"I'm not a virgin."
Jess took a deep breath and looked at her. "Ok."
"There's more."
"I assumed there was."
She paused for a sec and Jess looked at her and saw that her eyes were tearing up. She took a deep breath.
"I slept with Dean."
