IF TODAY WAS YOUR LAST DAY
"There's a 'meet new people' aspect to parties, you know."
Sakura didn't bother to look up. Instead, she turned the page of her Review of Medical Physiology book and said, "Won't work. I know everyone here."
The couch dipped with his weight as he sat down next to her. "Hn."
At this, Sakura actually looked at him. "Incommunicative as ever, I see."
His shrug was noncommittal. "Not much changes, in five months."
Her nose wrinkled as she returned to her book. "More like eight."
Sasuke was smirking now, she could tell by his voice. "You've been counting?"
Sakura wanted to slap him, but she refused to give him the satisfaction. "That's not what I meant."
He leaned forward, elbows on his knees. He wasn't looking at her. "I know."
She sighed, closing her book. "Look. Maybe we should start over."
His mouth thinned before he raised his eyebrows, a silent motion for her to continue.
Sakura sat up straight, tossing her hair back over her shoulder before locking gazes with him. "Hi," she said, holding out her hand. He took her outstretched hand and shook it once, impassive.
She smiled at him, pleased. "I'll start. My name is Haruno Sakura, I'm a pre-med student, I'm twenty-one, I love the color blue"—his eyes flickered at that—"I don't like tomatoes, and I don't know who you are."
He was burning right through her with his dark eyes. "My name is Uchiha Sasuke," he said, "and I still love you, stranger."
