Unexpected Love
Chapter 21.
Lucas sat at Starbucks, staring off into space, thinking about his life. Everything he's ever wanted was coming true, he just started his third book, which was inspired by the two wonderful, amazing girls God has blessed his life with. He was in love and marrying the love of his life, who gave him the best give in life, the gift of fatherhood. Everything in his life was finally coming together, but his past was coming back and biting him in the ass hard.
" Sorry I'm late man." Nathan said, as he sat down across from his brother. " You want to tell me why, you wanted me to come straight from the airport instead of letting me go home in see my wife and son first."
" I'm sorry man, I know how much you can't wait to see them. I just need someone to talk to."
" What's so important that you couldn't talk to me at the house about?" Nathan asked, as he took a sip of his ice coffee.
" You know how dads always telling us, that truth is always the way to go, even the littlest lies could come back in haunt us. Destroy our present and future."
" Yeah, I remember, what did you lie about and to who?"
Lucas threw his head back with a loud sigh. " I messed up man, and I'm not sure if Peyton will ever be able to trust me again."
"Luke, tell me you didn't. " Nathan said in a serious tone. " Please tell me you didn't cheat on Peyton."
Lucas looked down at the table, not able to look at his brother. " I didn't, I would never cheat on her. " He said in a loud reassuring tone. A tone that Nathan knew when he used it, it meant he was being serious. But the fact that he didn't look at him, had him questioning his words.
" You know there's another thing dad has always told us, Actions speak louder than words. " Nathan said, as he crossed his arms over his chest, Lucas looked up at him. " What the hell did you do Lucas?"
Lucas was about to respond when he got a text. " Game set, match, and score" he read the text out loud.
" What the hell does that mean?"
" I don't know."
Nathan watched his face, knowing that whoever sent the messages was probably the reason he needed to talk. " Who's it from?"
" Lindsey."
" Not pink, not yellow either, green, purple, blue, red. Yes, red I look good in red, hell I look good in any color, except pink, I just can't pull pink off, " Brooke laughed, as she flipped through the bridesmaids magazine. " You should were pink, instead of white, do something different. "
" Hell no, you know I hate the color pink, what bride in her right mind would wear a pink wedding dress?" Peyton said, as she continued texting her assistant. Who seemed to have a new question or problem every five seconds.
" Jessica Biel, she worn a pink dress, when she married Justin Timberlake.."
" Well, I'm not Jessica, she can wear all the pink dresses she wants, I am not getting married in a pink wedding gown. I could see me wearing a different color, other than pink or white."
" Well, its your wedding so you can wear whatever color you want."
" So if I wanted to wear a black...
" No Peyton, " Karen said, as she entered the dinning room, where the girls where sitting. " No future daughter in-law of mine is getting married in a black gown, black is for funerals, not weddings.."
Peyton and Brooke laughed, " I was just kidding." Peyton said, as she stood up, so that she could take her daughter from Karen. " Hey angel, did you have a good time with grandma? "
It's been a month since Peyton and Lucas brought little Hannah Brooke Scott home. She was now two months old, looking more like her mama everyday, she had curly blonde hair, in crystal blue eyes like her daddy. And a bunny nose like her mama, at least that's what Lucas says.
" Yes, my granddaughter loves spending time with nana and pappy. " Karen said, as she sat down the baby bag. " How's the wedding planning going? "
" It would be going better, if your soon to be daughter in-law, would decide on the colors or a theme she wants." Brooke said, in an annoying tone. As she give Peyton a hard stare.
Peyton rolled her eyes, " I'm sorry if I'm having trouble deciding on colors, but give me credit I do have a place picked out, your daughter is my flower girl, Jamie is my ring boy, your my maid of honor, Haley and Taylor are my bridesmaids. Nathan is Luke's best man. We have a preacher, Keith and Karen are ordering tables, chairs and taking care of the food. Haley is taking care of the flowers,..
" Haley can't ordered flowers, it she doesn't know the colors or the theme. " Haley said, interrupting Peyton, as she entered the dinning room.
" Why?"
" Because most brides want the flowers to blend, or match with the color of the room, or theme of the wedding, Peyton."
" That's what I've told her." Brooke said, agreeing with Haley, as she closed her magazine . " I don't understand why it's so hard to pick a theme."
" Ha!" Peyton yelled out, causing Hannah to cry out. " Oh my God, mama is so sorry, " she said, as she rocked the now crying baby. " Ssh, its okay, mama won't scare you again, "
" Let me take her Peyton, she hasn't had her nap yet." Karen said, as she reached for her granddaughter, " I'll get her to sleep for you."
" Thank you Karen, " Peyton said, as she watched her soon to be mother in law, walk out the room with her still crying daughter. " You've got some nerve." She said, turning her attention back on her best friend.
" What is that suppose to mean?"
"You don't know why it's so hard for me to pick a theme, or pick a date. Really?, you don't have a right to say anything to me."
" Excuse...".Brooke began, but Peyton cut her off.
" Let's talk about your wedding, and how much of a drama queen, control freak, bitch you were. You hated all my ideas, you didn't even let Julian have a say in anything, "
" That's a lie Peyton!" Brooke yelled, as she stood up. " Julian did have a say."
" Oh really? On what exactly, cause I can't think of anything, you didn't even let him have a say on where you guys went on your honeymoon. "
"He wanted to go to Alaska, no body goes to freakin Alaska on their honeymoon." Brooke said, like it was the craziest thing she's ever heard.
" Well actually Brooke...
" Shut up Haley!" Brooke yelled interrupting whatever Haley was going to say. " Julian was happy on where we went on our honeymoon, and he did have a say on the music for the wedding, thank you Peyton. "
"No he didn't, he wanted rock, and you wanted pop, then you got mad at me when I agreed with Julian, and you said, its my wedding, I get final say." Peyton told her, with her hands on her hips, mocking Brooke voice.
" Oh, okay.. What the hell has Lucas done or said about this wedding, Huh, cause it seems like the last two weeks that we been planning, Lucas seems to go M.I.A every time wedding talk comes up." Brooke said, as she started to gather her stuff together, " Fine, you can plan your own damn wedding, just tell me when to show up and I'll be there, I won't say another damn word, about your dumb, stupid wedding, you can just bite me...,
"Brooke," Haley yelled. As Brooke continues to vent.
" All I want is for you to have a beautiful wedding, so sorry, if I thought you wanted my input...
" Brooke!" Haley yelled again a little louder.
Brooke looked over at her. " What?" she screamed.
" Calm down."
" Don't tell me to calm down Haley Scott, Peyton is the one who is...
" Peyton left." Haley said, cutting Brooke off.
Brooke looked around the room, noticing that her best friend wasn't in the room anymore. " So, I hope she is off somewhere feeling bad, for saying I was a drama queen, and a control freak, I'm not a drama queen, she is the drama queen, she always has been, she has...
" Shut up Brooke." Haley said, cutting her off again. " Look, I think there is something more going on with Peyton, and why she won't or hasn't picked her colors." Brooke bit her bottom lip, as she stared at Haley with a questionable look as Haley continue. " I think Luke not being involved is one of the reason, because when you pointed out that Luke has been M.I.A these last couple of weeks, her facial expression kind of changed, and to come to think of it, Luke hasn't really said anything about the wedding. Somethings up."
" Whatcha mean?" Brooke asked, as she thought about the last two weeks, and the change in her best friends behavior.
" I know Luke, I know him, almost as much as I know Nathan, and lately he's been acting strange. " She paused. " You know he use to come by the house everyday, when Nathan is on the road, you know to check up on me and Jamie, but he hasn't. And I know he is in the process of writing another book, and he likes to close himself off from the world when he is writing, so he can give his work a hundred percent. "
" What are you getting at Haley?"
" Well to be blunt, I think something happen between him and Lindsey."
Brooke's eyes widen. " What do you mean something happen, between them like a disagreement or something?" Brooke was really confused now.
" Maybe." Haley shrugged
" You don't think he...cheated on Peyton, do you?" Brooke asked, whispering the last part.
Peyton step outside needing to get some air, and away from Brooke. She wasn't upset with Brooke, she was more upset with herself. She rested her head against the door, as the tears she has held in for days, finally fell. This was not how she thought planning her wedding would go. She wanted to plan it with Brooke, Lucas and his family, even her dad and Taylor. Everyone seemed to have something to say about the wedding, everyone except the person she wanted to hear from the most.
She sighed, as she sit down on the step, thinking about the last few days. She try talking to Lucas about the wedding, either when they were in bed, are eating dinner, are getting ready for the day. All he would do is nod his head, or say, okay. She was starter to hate that word.
She put her head in her hands, as she cry some more. Something was up with Lucas, she could feel it. Every since she got out of the hospital. She's noticed he was acting differently. She thought it was, his way of adjusting to fatherhood. But it was something more than that. And when she try to asks him, he would say that damn word. " I'm okay." or " everything fine. I've never been more okay." but something inside always told her he was lying, that he wasn't okay, that everything wasn't fine.
As she lifted her head, her eyes caught sight of something, on the doormat." What is that?" she said, to herself, as she reached for the brown envelope. " Well, that doesn't make sense, it's not addressed to anyone, and there's not even a return address." she stared at it for a few seconds. Thinking she'll just throw it away, and pay it no mind. But as she sat there holding it, something she was feeling said open it. And that's what she did, and seconds later, she wished she never did. " Oh My God!" was all she said, as he eyes widen and her jaw dropped...
