Bad Ending: Life in Vain and a Vampire

Cover Image: Dracula and Inner Moka preparing to fight each other with the ghostly images of Soma and Outer Moka behind them, holding hands.

The highly conflicted Dracula had just fired the Diabolica Megiddo, decimating most of Fairy Tale's and the Church's main forces at the cost of half his own and most of the Progenitor's, destroying Miyabi and presumably Akua, Alucard, Julius and the Newspaper club members, the deed was done, all who opposed the plan were destroyed, or so he thought.

Unbeknownst to the Dark Lord, Alucard and Eucliwood used a last minute teleportation spell to transport the group along with Akua away from the Diabolica Megiddo's malefic beam.

"We've sunk five enemy airships and destroyed 70% of the enemy forces; we did it, my lord." Death spoke to Dracula, both impressed and shocked at the conflicted young man's decision to wipe out the enemies along with his friends.

"Of course… I sacrificed people that loved and adored me." Soma wore a hateful expression, despite making the decision himself, the Dark Lord inwardly cursed at the current world for leading him to this point. "I've done it! I've destroyed all obstacles to a peaceful world… it cost me everything… but finally…"

"My lord, Alucard and Julius are approaching…!" Death's shock grew, the dark entity was sure that the blast eliminated them. "They're still alive!"

"What am I… what am I doing!?" Soma broke down and collapsed on his knees, terrified that the plan he had gambled so much on was failing, he then thought of Akua, who he supposedly sacrificed in a bid to wipe out Alucard, Julius and the girls, the Dark Lord just realized that he had killed his own friends. "WHAT HAVE I!?"

Dracula suddenly found himself in a dark void, and there, he saw the ghosts the dead figures from his past, Miyabi, Gyokuro, Graham, Dmitrii, Dario, Celia, Kahlua, Jasmine and of all the war's casualties, Dracula faced the spectre's, his face now twisted with hatred and sadness.

"Soma…" Graham's ghost gave Dracula an arrogant smirk, enjoying the failure of the man that took the title of Dark Lord away from him. "You couldn't handle it, boy! All that power and no resolve… how pathetic!"

"You're just a child, a pretend Dark Lord, you don't have the guts." Gyokuro's ghost laughed at Soma, taking joy in his pain.

"Weak! So Weak!" Dario laughed at Soma's pitiful state, enjoying the suffering.

"You're just like me; you couldn't handle all that power!" Dmitrii smirked and laughed condescendingly at Soma, enjoying the irony. "How does it feel?"

"You should have lost to my candidates; you are ill suited to be the Dark Lord." Celia sneered at Soma, seeing him as weak in comparison to Dario and Dmitrii now.

"What now, fake Dracula?" Miyabi smirked at Soma with evil intent. "You've lost everything… you are nothing!"

"How could you?" Kahlua glanced at Soma with a tear stained face, apalled by his extreme and cruel actions. "You killed your own friends!"

"You said you would... protect me." The ghostly image of Jasmine appeared to Dracula, all bloodied and with a sorrowful expression on her face.

The ground under Soma turned into a bloody abyss and several ghostly hands appeared to pull Dracula down with them, the spectral voices still mocking the conflicted young man.

"I KNOW!" Soma burst out in anger, unable to take the heavy words and the feeling of failure in his psychic vision. "I'll defeat them… I'll defeat them no matter what!"

Soma, now filled with anger and hatred, transformed into a shadowy red stream of dark energy, flying into the battlefield in a berserk rage.

One of the churches' surviving airships spotted Dracula and sent out two of their Golden Paladins, winged and armoured knights armed with dual curved swords, the holy soldiers then charged at the Prince of Darkness, determined to avenge their fallen comrades.

Soma glared hatefully at the Golden Paladins before kicking one and using his Chaos Claws to rip the Holy Knight in half.

The second Golden Paladin rushed to avenge his fallen comrade, combining the two swords to form a holy bow, the knight then fired a bolt of light energy at Dracula.

Dracula cut his palm and waved his hand in the air, releasing several drops of his blood, the Dark Prince energized the blood into dark bit weapons and sent the malefic orbs at the Golden Paladin, tearing the poor knight apart in a storm of blood.

After the second Golden Paladin was killed, Dracula turned his attention to the airship; the Dark Prince held his hand up and commanded the Bloody Bits to pierce through the ship, perforating it before it sunk.

Dracula landed on the ground to see the surviving members of Fairy Tale's ground forces.

"If it weren't for you…!" Soma seethed with rage, the hatred inside growing as he remembered how the conflict took everything away and turned his best friends against him.

The foot soldiers, the Shuzen Clan's elite vampire knights, charged at Soma with their weapons ready, in a doomed display of bravery, they resolved to defeat Dracula.

Without another word, Dracula unleashed a storm of Blood Bits, piercing through some of the soldiers, the Dark lord then summoned his Void Sword, charging at the vampire knights, slashing wildly as blood and limbs flew everywhere, the graceful and tactical attacks ordinarily used by Soma replaced with a berserk rage.

"S-Soma!?" Moka spotted Dracula, seeing the hateful expression on her love's face, the white haired vampire charged at him as she concentrated her dark energy into her hands.

"Moka!" Soma was driven mad by loss and hatred, under any other circumstance, he would have been relieved to see her alive, but the anger that raged within him clouded the Dark Lord's mind. Dracula then raised his Void Sword.

"Why… why do this!?" Moka's energized fist collided with the Void Sword, sparks flying and the white haired vampire unable to understand how someone as kind as Soma was driven to genocide. "You sacrificed your allies!"

"I must accomplish it! I threw away my soul for the new world's sake!" Soma glared at Moka before pushing her back, determined to salvage whatever he could for the plan.

Moka brought her fist to Soma's face, only to have it blocked by the Void Sword. Dracula kicked Moka away to create a distance between them as he fired several dark meteors at the unsealed vampire.

"I... I sacrificed everything for that future." Soma continued to fire his dark metoers at Moka, only to miss every time, due to the unsealed vampire's incredible speed. "I have no regrets!

"Soma..." Moka was shocked by how willing Soma was to abandon his true kind and gentle nature, seeing that her childhood friend had become warped by hatred, she resolved to stand in his way. "Then... I'll stop you!"

"Always… always getting in my way!" Soma remembered how Moka refused to join him and even fought to stop him, despite all his love for her and his childhood friend's inability to understand his actions.

"Always… always hurting yourself!" Moka remembered how kind Soma really is and how he's always taken actions that contradicted that kindness. "Always!"

"Damn you… you're always like that! Just disappear!" Soma, whose face was twisted with anger, cut his palm and unleashed his Blood Bits and commanded them to swarm the rival vampire.

Moka dodged all of the bits and approached Soma, now angered by his terrifying hatred and cruel words.

"Moka!" Black wings sprouted out of Soma's back as he flew up into the air to create distance between them so that he could fire more bits.

"What's the point losing your soul for such a world!?" Moka closed the distance between and her fist made contact with the Void Sword once more, the unsealed vampire didn't understand Soma's devotion, though she knew he wanted to make a kinder world, Dracula's actions and emotions said otherwise.

"What do you know!?" Soma retorted angrily as he pushed back Moka's attack, feeling that there was no possible way she could understand the horrors he had seen and the intentions behind his actions.

"Didn't you want to save everyone's souls with your new world!?" Moka used Soma's words against him, feeling that her childhood friend's madness was stopping him from seeing just how kind and gentle he really was.

"I have no choice..." Soma's eyes glowed a blood red, he knew that everything he was doing now went against his own beliefs, but the weight of all the sacrifices made Dracula feel that there was no turning back. "There's no going back!"

Soma prepared to summon several more Blood Bits, but before he could, Moka cut his arm off, taking his ability to generate blood bits.

"Damn it! Damn it Damn it!" Soma flew back, trying in vain to summon more Blood Bits, the Dark Lord then saw Moka approach him at a high speed.

Moka yelled out and poured more energy into her fists, Soma countered her attack by summoning one of his Chaos Claws. The battle had taken a far more brutal turn, fist to claw, two hearts screaming in a cruel battle between lovers.

Soma tried to knock Moka out with his Chaos Claws, only to have Moka grab him by the neck and throw him to a nearby wall, the impact creating a large crack. The unsealed vampire then proceeded to pummel Dracula, only for the Dark Lord to kick her away before his rival could continue her assault

"I can't… I cannot lose!" Soma summoned his Abyss Reaver, intent on ending the fight once and for all. "Moka!" The ghostly image of Soma in his white coat, back in his academy days overlapped his features. "For everyone that lost their lives... I cannot... I cannot fail them!"

"You idiot…!" Moka dodged the Abyss Reaver by a hair's width and her fist penetrated Dracula's chest, the unsealed vampire then took her fist out of the Dark Lord's chest and she raised her right leg to deliver a powerful kick. "Know your place!" The ghostly image of the pink haired outer Moka, dressed in the Yokai Academy uniform overlapped her features.

In a symbolic vision, the white coated, gentle looking Soma was kicked right in the face by the pink haired Moka.

In a nightmarish vision, Soma found himself standing on a bloody abyss, staring at Dracula's Castle with blank and lifeless eyes, feeling that he had failed as a Dark Lord and everyone that died under him had their lives wasted in vain.

"Soma! Soma! Soma!" Moka's voice was heard calling out to the Dark Lord from the distance and when Dracula heard the unsealed vampire's voice, he was brought back to reality."

"Wake up... Soma!" Moka called out desperately, hoping that her childhood friend would open his eyes and at the same time, fearing that he was already dead.

"It's your win…Moka." Soma regained his consciousness and he stared into Moka's eyes as the blood flowed from his chest and the side of his mouth, still in shock that he had lost, despite possessing power.

"Soma…" Moka rushed over to Dracula, thinking that as a vampire, he could recover from the injuries he had received. "Come with me, it's not too late!"

"It's fine... I understand now..." Soma struggled between breaths, knowing that using that much power to fire the Diabolica Megiddo twice drained him of the magic he needed to recover.

"No..." Moka noticed that Soma's wounds weren't healing and that his heartbeat was getting slower, the vampire was now struck with the grim realization that the man she loved was dying.

"You never change..." Soma let out a hollow chuckle, knowing that his end was near.

"But you changed!" Moka held on to Soma as tears formed in her eyes, in denial that the man she loved pushed himself into becoming a genocidal monster. "Taking the role of Dark Lord and killing so many people... why were you so desperately trying to create a new world?!"

"I knew all along… that sacrificing all those people was wrong… and that it could have led to a future I never wanted..." Soma placed his hand on Moka's heart, staring into her eyes, wearing a regretful expression.

"Then why!?" Moka yelled out, unable to understand why Soma sacrificed the kind and gentle nature that she and all of their friends fell in love with.

"I realized near the end... that the new world I was going to create... wasn't the world I truly wished for..." Soma spoke with a deep sense of regret, feeling that he had failed everyone who died in the grand conflict. "But if I acknowledged that... if I let my own selfish wish become what I was fighting for... what about all the lives that have been sacrificed up until now? What of their earnest desire for a world without the tragedies that destroyed their lives... and those that gave their lives for their dreams of the changed world I was fighting for..." The Dark Lord thought of Jasmine's death, Akua's hatred, his dead subordinates and the victims of Miyabi's quest for domination. "I couldn't invalidate all of them..."

"Even if it led to a false future?" Moka, now realizing the burden Soma had forced upon himself and the doubts that have clouded his mind, asked her childhood friend.

"Yes. I have to bear the weight of all the emotions and sacrifices that have accumulated over the course of this war... even if they went against what I was trying to create... I didn't want anyone to forget their lives... I wanted to grant all of their wishes..." Soma spoke sadly, thinking that in his failure, he wasted all those lives. "I wanted their lives to have meant something... I wanted them to be remembered..."

"That burden is too big for anyone to bear!" Moka held Soma's bloody hand to her face, now knowing full well what her childhood friend was going through.

"That's the world I wanted..." Soma opened up to Moka about his true intentions.

"To sacrifice more lives for people who are already dead..." Moka cried more, now seeing all the futility in Soma's actions. "What kind of future could possibly come from that?"

"I couldn't wish for a better world... unless there were sacrifices." Soma looked back to the idealism he rejected. "Moka… I understand if you… if everyone hates me now…" The dying youth wore a sorrowful and guilty expression, feeling that all those deaths he caused were all for nothing. "I betrayed you all... if I held on to all that love I was given... things would have been different... we all could have stayed friends..."

"No... that's not true... we may have fought each other...but the time we spent together will never disappear... when we cried and laughed together and all you did for us... even when we couldn't understand each other." Moka held Soma closer to her, remembering their good moments and knowing that his end was near, the white haired vampire now crying her heart out at the impending loss of her childhood friend. "No matter what you've done… I… no we, Kurumu, Eucliwood, Yukari, Mizore, Haruna, Seraphim, Kokoa and Akua… we'll always love you."

Soma's eyes widened in shock as Moka's words touched his heart, the white-haired youth experienced a vision of the more peaceful and kinder world he wanted to create, but what he saw wasn't a grand utopia, he saw his past white-coated self in front of the gates of the Yokai Academy, with Moka, Kurumu, Eucliwood, Yukari, Mizore, Haruna, Seraphim, Kokoa and Akua all smiling at him, it was then that Dracula realized that he had been living in that world all along, and that he had found his own paradise.

Soma smiled peacefully at Moka, realizing that he had thrown away the very world he fought for; the kinder world was already in his hands.

"Soma…" Moka kissed Soma one final time as she saw the light in his eyes, knowing that in his final moments, he had found redemption.

Soma smiled at Moka as soon as the kiss finished, feeling all the dark energy struggling to escape his body, he pushed Moka away, so that she wouldn't get caught in the blast.

"Soma!" Moka saw the unstable glow from Soma, despite knowing what was to come; she could never bring herself to accept it.

"Thank you… Moka… I love you." Soma gave Moka one final smile before his body was covered in black and red flames, the fire burning his hair back to its original length at the academy and his face as gentle as it was before, with that, Dracula faded away in the explosion of dark energy, ending his life.

"Soma!" Moka yelled out in anguish, the sadness of seeing the man she loved die before her eyes was almost enough to drive her to the depths of despair. "Soma... you created a better world for us... your love showed us a better future..."

From the distance, Eucliwood, Kurumu, Yukari, Mizore, Kokoa, Haruna and Seraphim and even Akua, who was rescued last minute, saw the explosion of dark energy dissipate. The girls knew that the battle was finally over, but instead of relief, they were all brought to tears, knowing that Soma, the man they loved, was gone.

Progenitors Krul, Ferid, Crowley, Horn and Chess also watched from the distance, ordering their forces to retreat since most of them were decimated and Dracula, their leader had fallen in battle.

The battle had ended and with Dracula's death, both sides retreated with their now vastly diminished forces.

Author's note: So the finale of the bad ending route is here. This story is built upon some of the previews I wrote before and should not be considered canon to the main route. This chapter leads up to a alternate continuity spinoff Code Vein: Eternal Blood that crosses over Code Vein and Seraph of the end and takes place around ten to twenty years after.

Now to answer my reviewer.

Here's the end of the bad end route, I hope you enjoyed it.

Dracula himself is on a completely different level since he was chosen by Chaos to be the opposing being to God, so he's the apex vampire.
