Chapter 6 - Halloween Party

Aki's POV

"This was a really nice party," my mother commended as she and her husband said goodbye to the twins as it was time for them to retire to our home.

"Thanks for the invitation, Ruka," the senator thanked the girl before she closed the door.

"Leave it open, Ruka; we are leaving too," Martha said and headed to the door with the two dozen children in tow. "It was so sweet of you to invite all these kids; they had a better time here than at the orphanage."

"My pleasure, Martha," the young girl smiled.

"Sure," her twin said. "Halloween is too great time to be spent alone or only with a few friends."

I was standing in the garden near the pool, enjoying the happiness I was feeling tonight. The party Rua and Ruka organized was more than great. They had invited lots of people and we spent hours playing games, eating and dueling. Everyone had their own chance against Crow and his Halloween deck.

But I was so tired right then and all I was seeking was a little quiet. That's why I was currently in the garden alone while everyone was still inside. I was enjoying the peace.

"AAAAAAA!" I turned my head, trying to realize what happened; the sound had come from inside.

Rua was running with record speed to the stairs when Jack grabbed him by the collar.

"It's just a Halloween pumpkin, Rua," he explained, sounding a little bored.

"It was just a joke," Crow continued. "Anyway, there's no need to be afraid."

"Who said I'm afraid?" Rua reacted by adopting a defensive mood, trying to sound a little angry.

"Come on, Rua, no one said such a thing," Ruka said, trying to hide a smile.

"Good. Because I'm not," he stated and this time I couldn't hold back my giggle; typical Rua.

"You are a terrible liar, Rua," his sister teased and pointing at him with one finger. "You get scared because of a Halloween pumpkin."

"And you got scared because of some fake bones," he fired back.

"Not anymore," she retorted. They started arguing and laughing at the same time.

I took a deep breath, looking at the dark sky above me. I thought I was alone when I heard footsteps behind me. I turned and I saw Yuusei marching closer.

"Yuusei," I called his name, "why you are not inside serving some liquor?"

"Jack drank most of the leftover alcohol, and I'm not that fond of pumpkin juice," he explained. "He took it personally when Ruka picked Crow for the entertainment role with the dueling, that's why he challenged Crow a dozen times."

I smiled. "You are right but I think Ruka did it on purpose. Crow spent most of the night dueling and I must say he gained lots of love and attention from the kids."

"She must have guessed Jack's reaction to that too."

"Defiantly, because when Jack challenged Crow, she said to Rua that she won the bet."

Yuusei nodded. "Very clever of her. So everyone had a nice time and enjoyed seeing the king in action."

"Sure," I muttered. "Everyone had a nice time and Crow was really happy among those kids; he made them happy and the kids loved him."

"You too, Aki," Yuusei stepped closer, staring into my eyes. My heartbeat started to speed up. "You shared many sweets and the kids loved you too. I saw how they were smiling at you."

I moved my weight form one leg to another awkwardly. "Oh, you noticed."

"You look really pretty in that costume," Yuusei's cheeks became redder as he spoke.

"Really?" I smiled sheepishly and glanced away. "You too."

"I what?" he asked slowly and I sensed him getting even closer. My throat was going dry.

I bit my lips. "Umm, well…"

"Well?" he prompted. I felt his hot breath only a hair away from my lips.

"Handsome," I confessed in the end, feeling heat spreading all over my face.

"Mmm," he hummed and closed his eyes as he bent his head to cover the distance that separated us. His lips touched mine in a soft kiss and my heart stopped beating.

"You are beautiful here," he whispered against my lips and pulled back to stare into my eyes.

I smiled and pressed my arms around his neck, fully resting my head against his chest. He wrapped his arms around my waist in a warm embrace and kissed the top of my head. I closed my eyes, feeling completely happy. This would be a night that I would always remember.
