Chapter 6

Her darkened eyes glared towards the woman in front of her. Why, had this woman Tara had loved like a mother since she was sixteen, hate her so much? Tara knew for the most part that Gemma had been jealous of her and Jax's relationship. Always scared Tara would pull Jax away from the club…from her. Tara really did love Gemma and after everything they had been through since she arrived back in Charming. She had thought they had gotten close, became more like a normal family. She snorted loudly, Gemma Teller-Morrow made sure things were always in her control. Even if it hurt the family she loved.

"You know what Gemma, I am going to Chicago to visit my Aunt and Abel – MY son, is coming with me. And what Jax and I do, is none of your god damn business. I know exactly what you're trying to do, what you did all those years ago. I love you, Gemma and I always have, even when you pulled all that nasty shit to me all those years ago... When I came back I tried to be the daughter you could love but YOU couldn't fully do that though, could you?" Tara stood up from the kitchen table, tears formed in her eyes and she looked toward Gemma sadly, "You're a manipulative bitch. I am sick and tired of your games."

Tara's head turned, her eyes shifting to Jax as she realized he was standing there. How long had he been standing there? What did he hear?

"What did my mother do, all those years ago?" Jax asked, pushing himself away from the wall he was leaning on, anger in his voice, his blue eyes falling on Gemma. Jax could see the fear in her eyes and he moved closer, frightening Gemma more. "What did you do, mother?"

Before Gemma could answer, Abel interrupted, screaming loudly. Both Jax and Tara glanced worriedly towards each other and raced towards Abel's bedroom. When they arrived at his crib, he was sleeping soundly, his small fists clutching at his blanket. Jax glanced towards Tara and then back to Abel. "Poor little guy is probably having a nightmare. Kid has been through a lot of shit." Jax whispered, his hand resting on Abel's belly.

Gemma watched in silence as Jax and Tara hovered over Abel's crib. Abel had saved her this time, stopping her from having to tell Jax what she did all those years ago. She knew Tara wasn't going to tell Jax, because little miss princess had her own little secret.

"Yeah." Tara whispered back, she reached down, her fingers brushing lightly over the top of Jax's hand before resting it on top of his. "He's home now, and he is safe."

Jax swallowed this had been the first time she had touched him like this, since before he left for Ireland. His body tingled at her touch and his eyes met hers, his arm wrapped around her and he pulled her closer, "Are you in this with me, babe? Or are you going to run?" Jax was shocked that he actually said that out loud, but he had been thinking about it ever since he arrived home. She was pissed and the shit he did wasn't helping his cause and his mother… Gemma couldn't keep her nose out of it. He was losing Tara. He couldn't lose her. He was nothing without her

Tara sighed, pulling out of Jax' tight embrace and lowered her eyes to Abel's sleeping form. "I need sometime Jax. I need some space..."

Jax' head turned, tears filled his eyes as his mother's shadow disappeared out of the room, he glanced back towards Tara. "From me..."

Tara could see the anguish in his face, the pain in his eyes. She swallowed, clearing her throat. "I love you, Jackson. I have never stopped. I don't think I will ever stop. But- you come back here from Ireland like nothing happened between us and I can't go on pretending like nothing happened. The hurtful words you said to me I could handle...but the cheating...I...I am not leaving Charming, Jax. I will be back in a couple of weeks. I just need some time..."

"What happened with you and my mother? I thought we were going to have no more secrets between us. For us to work. It goes both ways Tara, you know that, right?"

"I know..." She whispered, her hand reaching for his face, her fingers massaged his cheek for a second, before cupping it. "I promise it was nothing, its long history." She moved closer to him, her body touching his slightly.

Jax watched as the emotions flickered across her face. He leaned in, his hands slipped down the sides of her body, stopping at her hips and his head lowered to hers and he pulled her body flush with his. His forehead smacked lightly against hers and his eyes watched her worriedly.

"It's the same bullshit that always comes with your mother. Just a controlling mother who didn't want her golden son to be hooked up with the daughter of the town drunk."

"Don't say that." He murmured, his lips almost touching hers.

"Why not Jax? It's the truth. She has always hated me, I was never good enough for you. She is always sticking her nose in shit that isn't her business..."Tara couldn't help her outburst, her hormones were raging and she felt like she was being pulled in all different directions.

"You're not a reflection of your father, Tara. And when did anything my mother ever said to you, bother you? She is just jealous because I spend my time with you and not worshiping her like she wants me too."

Tara tried to smile, but Jax could see the hesitation and he leaned in pressing his lips to hers. The instant cold of her lips startled him. Why was she so cold? Her lips were always like fire to him "Are you okay babe?

"I...I think I need to sit down." Her body swayed a little and Tara became dizzy, her hands grasping for Jax. She tightened her grip on the sides of him, her fists grasping tightly for his 'Samcro' sweater.

Jax noticed Tara turn pale and he rushed to her, catching her as she fell into his arms. He held her tightly, as he moved them over to the bed, laying her down. He glanced down at her, his eyes falling on her green ones. "Babe, you okay?"

Gemma was furious. She understood why Tara would be distant towards Jax, after what he did. But, Tara and her had been getting along. When she first came back to Charming, she hated her and wanted her gone...wanted Wendy and Jax to somehow work it out and was worried that Tara would brainwash Jax in some way. They had never seen eye to eye, but then the rape, Abel's kidnapping they grew close. Tara had become the 'Old Lady' Gemma had wanted her to be. She was a good mother to Abel and the club respected her and she knew exactly how much Tara had loved Jax. When Tara asked her a few months ago if it would ever settle down and she said yes, she had actually believed it. Then Abel was kidnapped and all hell broke loose. Finding out that Maureen Ashby and JT had a child together and that Tara was pregnant. Abel was taken to Ireland. Jax was breaking it off with Tara. It was too much. She couldn't let her family fall apart. Tara needed to own her place, with Jax going inside, Tara needed to be there for him...the club.

Gemma knew she did some nasty shit to her all those years ago, pushed Tara down the path away from Jax... but she came back, grown up and a doctor and still madly in love with her son and she also fell in love with her, treated her like her daughter. Tara began to embrace their world and everything that was involved with it. Except the only thing Tara couldn't seem to get past were the other woman. Tara was strong, and very smart, but Tara Knowles had a weakness. Gemma could handle it. The cheating while they were on the road. What Gemma didn't know about the runs, wouldn't hurt her. Tara though, she was stubborn. She wasn't someone who would allow that to happen. Cheating was a deal breaker for her and Tara had a past of running.

Gemma would not let that happen. She wasn't sure how she would stop it but she would. Gemma grabbed her keys off the kitchen table and hurried through the house, towards the front door. She was sure Jax would be furious when he finds out she left and that he will want some answers.

That could wait. She would deal with him later. Right now she needed to go see an old friend.
