The ship orbiting around Pluto looked unremarkable to the naked eye: an oblong shape forged of scarlet metal with four crescent-moon wings lining it's backside around the two glowing white thrusters that gave it propulsion. 'The Tanager' was the name that popped into Bulma's head when she saw it up close, and as Kakarot had no better names in mind he decided to go with that.
It had been a gift from the High Priestess of Verneck, a woman who felt indebted to Kakarot and his brother after the close call the Parliament had when Broly came by. A personal vessel that, while not being too impressive in it's armaments, made for an exceptionally fast ship that could endure great deals of punishment.
One of many gifts from thankful nobles and planetary leaders who feared falling under rule of a being even worse than Frieza or Cold. Kakarot had been flattered to recover from his hospitalization to find so many things waiting on him, and it did his heart good to know that those races included in the parliament were thankful for what he had done for them.
A faint rumble came from the metal underbelly of the Tanager, a bulkhead leading to the cargo bay being silently slid open. Inside was empty save for a car-sized machine that resembled a cube of dark green metal with four silver spiderlike legs marking it's corners. The top of the cubic shape had a glowing blue pyramid upon it, the light radiating from it showcasing some form of power that wasn't of Earth.
"All readings normal. Are position is set properly... preparing to deploy field stabilizer."
The ring of reflective metal holding the strange machine securely inside the cargo bay made a small twisting motion and released a few spews of misty white steam that was immediately lost in the darkness of space. A brief flash made itself known inside the Tanager and the field stabilizer, as it had been so called, was abruptly launched down toward Pluto at the speed of a racing fighter jet.
Down it went, hurtling toward the great mound of ice at the edge of the Sol System. It's speed seemed to fluctuate rather frequently on the way down, alternating between accelerating and decelerating. The great spider-like legs of space-age alloys extended outward and held a wide open stance. Right now they were bracing for impact and getting ready to apply the pressure needed to dig into solid ice.
The artificial material met a thick layer of rock and frozen water with a loud crunch lost in the silence of space. The force and pressure of impact certainly hit hard and made the local area vibrate and rock violently. But the field stabilizer held firm and started digging its reinforced legs into Pluto's surface until it was neatly secured.
For a few minutes nothing seemed to happen. The strange machine simply rested on the planet's surface with it's blue light flickering in and out of view. It seemed undamaged, even if frost was quick to creep along its metal. Bulma had been rather vigorous in her design of course, so there was no risk of the cold managing to damage her newest invention.
Then at last a change came upon it. The glowing blue pyramid grew more intense in it's illumination. The air about it visibly crackled and with static until a bubble of blue energy wrapped about it. A cocoon of light that wrapped first around the machine and then expanded. Outward it went, expanding at a steady rate with each passing second until it was covering over a mile of frozen land. No damage befell the area under the energy dome, though everything under the dome seemed a little more... solid?
It rested for a moment, and then started expanding out again.
From aboard the Tanager, Tien stood by one portside window and looked down at the display of strange energy radiating across the barren landscape. Since this whole debacle began, this strange saga that was his life, with the appearance of the Saiyans... well Tien had grown no better accustomed to the strange technology that appeared around him daily. Bulma's genius and technological mastery was equal to the kind of things the aliens could produce, that was for sure.
But this... even this seemed to surpass a good deal of what she had done in the past. His feet sank into the rubber that lined the floor, and his trio of eyes continued to witness the spectacle expanding over Pluto... the creation of an atmosphere.
Originally he hadn't been too interested in coming out this way. Using the Namekian Dragon Balls to revive Chiaotzu in his human body had left his hands a little full as he tried to work his way through the icy barrier the short psychic had erected around his emotions. Krillin and Yamcha were apparently taking shifts to make sure he didn't do anything while Tien was away, but all the same the triclops hadn't seen much of a threat. His old friend wasn't even half as powerful now that he was in his old body, and he seemed a little more… sane. Seeing this though had dispelled his worries a bit, made it seem worth coming out for.
"That's certainly something." The softness of the floor meant that even Tien's honed senses hadn't picked up on the figure approaching. He glanced over his shoulder and found himself watching Kami approach. The alien had been looking through one of the portholes and then made the full walk Tien's way, stopping at his side. "I never thought I'd see something like this, and apparently it's just the first step in something marginally larger."
Tien nodded his head "Yeah. Though I'm wondering why he decided to bring us along to see... neither of us are exactly scientists."
Another voice reached their way, this time coming from the cockpit of the ship. "Think of it more as a... symbolic motion than anything else." Kakarot was walking their way with long and confident strides, and it seemed he was leaving control and navigation of the ship to the built-in robot servicer. He stopped about a foot away from the duo in the increasingly cramped hallway of the vessel.
Kami and Tien exchanged uncertain glances and both had to wonder what the symbolic gesture of this all was. In the end it was the Namekian who spoke up and asked "What do you mean?"
"This is a... prototype I suppose. Bulma and I did a bit of brainstorming to see how we could improve life in the solar system, a conversation that drifted onto the idea of colonising the other solid worlds. The machine we just launched onto Pluto is a small scale test of what we'll eventually try to do on Mars and Venus; sculpt a breathable atmosphere, make a tolerable gravitational pull and fertilize the soil."
Kakarot glanced out the window, seeing the blue dome of light was continuing steadily in it's expansion. "Earth's population is still on the rise, and with the new medical technology being brought in from the stars it means that people are living longer. It'd be irresponsible not to open up new territory so overpopulation becomes less of an issue." He focused back on Pluto and smirked "Plus we'll be able to put this ice-ball to good use too. Bulma managed to give it an artificial 'power level' so that it can be locked onto with Instant Transmission. Once we have the atmosphere fully designed then we'll be able to train out here with no need to hold back," he explained.
It was certainly reassuring to know he was planning ahead for the future... Kami was proud really, he was proving himself to be a very worthy and conscious guardian of the planet. However the question still hung in the air, unanswered. "The two of you really did out a great deal of thought into this... though you didn't say why you brought us along for it."
"Aha, of course. I got a little carried away, being out in space just gives me an overblown sense of grandeur. I brought you out here because I wanted you to both know that I only have the best of intentions in mind for mankind's future… Tien I brought you here because you and Bulma both symbolise the best of human potential- you're the aspects of humanity that I strive most to protect and nurture. And Kami, I wanted you to see this because it was you who gave me this instinct and desire; the drive to further the best of mankind." Kakarot smiled and glanced out the porthole once more. In as much time as it had taken for them to converse, the dome seemed to have stretched over at least half of Pluto with no intent to stop anytime soon.
"That's very noble of you… but I'm hoping you at least spoke with King Furry about all this," Tien remarked in return.
Kakarot nodded at his three-eyed ally "Of course, I consult him on most matters. He was quite fond of the idea, saw it as a good idea that would boost resources and allow for greater expansion…. Though the political matters of who will manage things on Mars and Venus I'm leaving up to him."
Kami seemed set to speak when a loud beep reverberated through the corridor of the Tanager. The trio of trained warriors glanced about uncertainly while the robot controlling the vessel spoke up with the ominous message of: "Unidentified object approaching starboard. Energy signature of unidentified origin, massive in quantity."
Each male quickly rushed over to a starboard window, and sure enough each of them caught a glimpse of a pale blue light hurtling across the spaceways. A great ball of burning light wreathed around some sort of humanoid shape, and if one looked hard enough into the heart of the fires they would see some sort figure flailing and thrashing as it tried to direct itself to the Tanager.
Something falling through time and space. Something burning and most definitely not part of this reality.
Whatever this was Kakarot knew full well he didn't like the look of it. He pressed two fingers to his brow and tried to focus on the figure rushing their way several dozen times faster than the speed of sound. He blinked then, shocked that he couldn't quite lock onto this figure. "It's… it's like it's there but it… it keeps zoning in and out and it's moving so quick like that that I can't entirely lock onto it. This… this has never ever happened before," he gasped out.
"Are you sure?" Kami asked with some mild worry. It was drawing in closer… and he didn't want to risk blowing a hole in the ship by powering up. He doubted this thing would have such qualms, and it showed no sign of slowing as the powerful blue glow rushed through the portholes.
The group braced themselves, each taking in a large gulp of air and expecting the worst to happen. However rather than blow a hole in the ship's hull, the burning figure instead seemed to phase clean through the metal walls of the ship. The group turned to the source, and then found themselves almost recoiling from the almost blinding light that had instead forced it's way inside the ship.
A hand reached through the flames, suddenly gripping Kakarot by the collar. The shock of the moment, combined with the strange numb sensation suddenly coursing through his veins and arteries, caused him to freeze up while the same swirling fire began to engulf him too. In the heart of the inferno he got a full look at what was grabbing him: he saw the face of a very panicked Yardrat.
Then, in an instant, both had simply popped clean out of existence. Tien and Kami were frozen in place, and left to ponder just what the hell they had seen.
Falling. Crashing. Burning.
Those were perhaps the best words that described Kakarot's predicament as he and this strange Yardrat gripping him by the collar fell through the thick atmosphere of some foreign planet and found their powerful bodies being engulfed in the fires of reentry. The shock of the moment had caused Kakarot to lapse into a moment of stunned shock, only waking from the stupor when the tongues of lashing fire seemed intent in roasting him alive inside his own skin.
A loud yell tore free from his throat, a great pulse of his energy blasting away both the orb of fire around him and the mysterious Yardrat who was flung back by the surge of his Super Saiyan form bursting to life. Kakarot was suspended in the air with his hair risen up by the power coursing in his veins, and his golden aura was giving off a light even more intense and incandescent than the fireball from earlier.
For his part, the Yardrat managed to halt himself and came to a floating stop in the sky. Now that Kakarot could get a better look at him he saw that he looked a little distinct than most of his kin, with deep scarlet skin, his bulbous cranium covered in old scars, and the grey tunic and tight white pants he was wearing serving to be far less flamboyant than usual Yardrat attire. In addition the bulky metal harness he was wearing, humming with power while a series of blinking blue and green lights hinted at some unknown function, made for an alien sight too.
"Who the hell are you?" Kakarot growled, clearly more than a little annoyed at being abruptly dragged through space by this stranger.
The Yardrat took in a deep breath "Suye. My name is Suye… and I brought you here because I… everyone desperately needs your help."
The Saiyan frowned and kept his guard up all the same, watching the Yardrat closely for any signs of an incoming attack. By all appearances and from what the Saiyan could now sense of him, this Suye fellow wasn't powerful enough to pose a direct threat. In all honesty Kakarot doubted the alien could even challenge one of the Androids… Still, being cautious never hurt anyone. "What do you need my help with?"
Suye was about to speak, when a shudder of dread ran down his spine. He cast his gaze down below and Kakarot did the same, both warriors finding themselves watching the expansive cityscape visible through the parting clouds. Something was… rising up to them… several somethings… an entire SWARM of objects, black shapes that steadily grew larger and more defined the closer they drew. Humanoids mostly, and Kakarot soon realised that these men were comprised of a reinforced chromatic metal, each bearing a trio of glowing blue eyes on their brows.
While they made up the bulk of the swarm shooting skyward, they were also flanked in several areas by large flying sphere comprised of some smooth gelatinous substance. Big, whatever the hell they were…
"Those," Suye said firmly "We need your help with those."
The crowd hurtling their way spoke one word, one word called out in unison in strong synthesized voices': "SURRENDER."
A/N: And here we are, the beginning of the OC villain arc I told you about a while back. He'll be making a proper appearance next time around.
Michael: Mr. Arkham, will you stop using foul language like "Bitch", "Son of a Bitch" and "Kick his ass", etc. in your fanfiction here because when I'm reading your fanfic I can see foul languages in your some chapter in the fanfic.
How about, no? I'll use whatever language I see fit to use in my story, and I certainly don't owe you anything as you seem to think you can make demands of me whenever you want. If you don't like it, then by all means go pester another author.
Jredd: Well, just thought I'd pop in here and tell you I really like your story so far and hope you continue it. Sure, if I were to be nit picky I could say it's got some grammatical errors here and there but what fan fic doesn't? The main point is, your story rocks and I like how the human characters are actually useful and that every character has their moment to shine and you don't seem to have too much of a bias or favoritism towards any one person. I liked that I couldn't rightly predict who was going to get what power boost in the story and it made me feel like a kid again watching DBZ for the first time before I knew who was going to be the strongest in the series. I do see the sayains coming out on top now but given their natural strength that is to be somewhat expected. I wonder if desperate times will cause more human fighters to opt for the cyborg option with Bulma and Gero's genius and become relevant again? Or if there is some other kind of power up for them where they can break past their current limit later in the series? I understand losing motivation man, it happens. However, don't let a few people bring you down just because your story isn't what they think it should be. You had a lot of nice surprises in here and I enjoy it a lot. So whatever you do, keep writing stories man. This is the first of yours that I've read and I think I'll go ahead and read any others you have. Keep up the good work. Who knows, maybe I'll make one myself sometime. :)
Why thank you, I appreciate the compliment.
SP: Nice chapter!I have some time to review but ive been reading this fic frequently and i have to say it is ne of the best stories i ve read mostly because it has anice pace and storytelling. One question though how old will be gohan and tarnip in this saga?(and i doubt we will see a think like fusion)
Hrm… I'm pretty sure I gave the Buu saga estimate in the past… honestly I can't quite remember. I'm thinking 14/15.
