Entering black lions piloting room a cry of terror rang through the intercom.

"Lance help!"At that Lance forgot all his hesitation and fear. With the thought that one or more of his cadets were harmed in any way he jumped out of his lion and toward black. When he could finally see Daniel he paused, momentarily speechless. The boy was lying on the ground next to the pilot seat. His skin was paper white and his chest was shuddering with lack of air. Every couple of seconds' bolts of violet flew across his body, making his back arch in horrible pain.

"Hunk, get in here now!" Lance called through the coms. "Daniel needs the med bay."

The big guy stormed in quickly with the look of a mother bear in search of her cubs.
He scooped up the cadet in his arms with no trouble. Pidge followed close after and with no riders the lions headed back to their dens.

The sun hit Daniel's eyes and he squeezed them shut, struggling limply to get away. "No…" he moaned. "No Hunk. You've got to… take me away from here. It's not safe. I'm not safe."

"You'll be okay little buddy," Hunk pulled him close, starting to run, the bouncing steps rattling the body in his arms. "I've got you."

"No," Daniel was practically sobbing now, terror etched in his whole face. "Put me down."

"Sorry. We've got to get you some help." Hunk entered the castle, the rest of the group hot on his heels.

"No!" Daniel started squirming with more vigor "Put me down!" a purple spark went down his body, the force of hit hitting the man carrying him and sending him flying back. Daniel fell on his back and it only took a second before he was scrambling to his feet. The fear in his eyes was tangible, a glowing unearthly amethyst. No; that wasn't his eyes. "I'm dangerous." Tears were welling in his eyes.

"Daniel!"Larmina ran in with Vince and Lance.

"Get back!" he held out his hands and they all flew backward in a wave of Haggarium energy. "No!" The sparks became faster, flying across his body with arcs more powerful than lightning. "Stop! Stop!" his hands went to his head and his glowing eyes squeezed tightly. "Stop!" as he kept shouting the lights flickered "Please! Stop!"

"Daniel!"Vince tried to shout over the sound of the sparks as it short-circuited the lights above until a violent purple glow filled the room.

"No!" all sounds of power died, ever the unnatural light died, leaving them in total blackness.

There was total silence until, "Uhnnnn," Daniel's knees hit he stone floor and he slumped to the ground.

"Daniel?" Lance questioned the darkness.

Silence, a light flicker of palest violet.

The lights above flicked on one by one, starting from either end of the hall until the ones overhead came to life. The other occupants of the hall stirred and looked over. Daniel was on the ground, his eyes open and shaking like he had the chills. Lance approached the boy cautiously.

"Daniel…?" he spoke quietly. The tired eyes looked up, shinning with terror, still glowing, and the usually pink veins in his eyes glowing with the energy that seemed to be taking him over.

Feet were running down the hall and Daniel didn't even have the energy to lift his head. "No…"

"Daniel!" Keith cried, stopping short, next to Pidge. "Lance what's wrong with him?"

Allura dropped to her knees next to the near immobile body. Larmina followed suit.

"You have to take me away," Daniel grabbed Larmina's wrist feebly, his fingers trembling as much as his voice. "I c-can't hurt anyone else."

"You're not going to hurt anyone," Allura comforted.

He shook his head limply. "You don't understand." His eyes rolled into the back of his head and he blacked out.

Hunk lifted the boy and the group walked silently to the medical bay.

Vince and Larmina, when questioned finally caved, giving them the information they'd been hiding for months now. It seems that chance had failed. By the end of the interrogation both looking near catatonic, letting them off the hook for punishment for the most part. Finally they were left alone and after an hour Daniel's eyes slowly began to open. The only other occupants of the room were the two ex cadets.

His eyes looked near normal when they finally opened, though the dark circles under them didn't help him much.

The room was near silent when he looked over at his friends sitting beside him. Their eyes were glazed over, watching nothing in particular, their brows drawn in identical lines of worry.

Daniel let his thoughts wander, flicking through Vince's present worries with as much effort as it would take to flip through a folder.

"Why didn't you tell them?" Daniel's croak of a voice broke the silence.

"What?" Vince jumped, looking over.

"You didn't tell them about the mind link," He clarified. "Out of everything else you told them."

"So…" the other boy tried to dodge the inquiry, "You aren't mad about us telling them?"

Daniel propped himself up in the bed. "No. I'm not angry. Being a Voltron pilot doesn't matter anymore." His voice didn't even quaver on the last words. "All that matters now is keeping everyone safe.

Larmina piped up for the first time. "Daniel you don't have to give up. There's still a chance. We can fix this." Her eyes were puffy and red.

The thin boy before her looked her in the eyes, his gaze millions of miles away. "you two should go to bed," he spoke finally, catching sight of the clock. "It's late."

"But you just woke up," Larmina protested. "We're not going to just leave you."

"I'll be okay." His smile was weak, sharp angles made the expression difficult to look at. "I just need a while to…. Think things over."

"If you're sure," Vince took Larmina's hand carefully, pulling her up. "Come on."

Larmina looked at the other boy, terror in her face. Do we have to? She seemed to be asking.

Vince looked over at his best friend who had settled back in his bed. Are you going to be okay?

Sure.

It was late that night when all sounds of movement finally faded. Daniel stood from his bed, walking as quiet as a cat, opening the door to his bedroom.

Vince's soft snores filled the room and the other boy felt an unbidden smile spread across his face. Grabbing the empty duffle bag under his bed he grabbed his clothing and other necessities. He dressed in absolute silence, his Voltron uniform folded neatly on the bed. He wouldn't need where he was going. The clothes on his back were a rough sweater he'd received from Allura, a pair of his best jeans imported from earth and sturdy Erusian hiking boots. He'd be warm on his journey at least. He wished he had time to thank everyone, to… he didn't know. To say something.

Pulling out a paper he set the tip of pen on it. Words failed him. There was nothing to say.

Before he set his voltcom on his bed he managed one word.

Sorry.

which is my word as well. I'm so sorry for the lack of updates. I hope you enjoy the chapter and please review.
