JJ stood in the middle of her office, upright as she held a phone to her ear, her free hand expertly skipping over the folders on her desk, matched by a sharp eye.
Responding to a particular comment made at the other end of the line, she stopped searching for a moment to run the back of her hand across her forehead before sticking it on her hip.
She wasn't normally an impatient person, or prone to violence, but the last fifteen minutes had certainly tested those creditable features.
Hearing someone knock lightly on the door, she diverted her attention long enough to identify them and wave them in.
The man stepped in and placed a bag on the chair as JJ spoke. "I'm sorry Mr Ambrose. Despite what you may think, the Department of Defence is not a bottomless pit, and I'm afraid that we are unable to help you."
Ambrose prattled on once again as the man rounded the desk. JJ allowed herself a moment of distraction to swiftly press her lips to his.
She flicked her eyes to the clock when they parted. Damn, the time.
Concentrating all her efforts, she managed to placate the disgruntled Mr Ambrose with a promise that Research would call him tomorrow.
Hanging up the call, she set the handset in place, took a moment to clear her mind and then smiled genuinely at where David Rossi was attempting to do his bow tie, a task quite difficult without a reflective surface.
"Come here," she ordered, taking control with an efficient air.
"You're a sight to behold," said Rossi in a husky voice, his palms cupping JJ's satin-clad hips.
"Behave!" the blonde woman admonished. "We have somewhere to be."
Task complete, she tugged the bow one last time, patted her husband's chest and turned her face up to be kissed.
He obliged.
She then scooped up the bag he'd brought with him, added her necessities, checked her watch and made for the door.
"Time to go," she declared, waving her hand to usher her man out.
This same man stood close as she locked up, brushing her hair from her neck as he leaned in to press a kiss to her neck. Relishing the sensation, JJ reluctantly pulled away.
"We need to go babe."
As they moved down the hall, his hand rode low on her back, his eyes full of dark promise for later.
Finito.
