Lucius stared over the letter he'd received not long ago, then settled his eyes on the letter his son had sent not but a day before. There was a lot to take in. The most unsavory of his thoughts fell to the young Ravenclaw being nearly strangled and poisoned by an upperclassman. That had certainly been something of an eye-opener as far as school gossip went.
He'd told his son to inform him of any outstanding consequence regarding Hogwarts, Harry Potter, and the Headmaster. Blackmail was blackmail. Who was he to turn his nose up to it when it was so readily made available to him? The missive that lay from his son was atop his dark brown snakewood desk. His neatly kept nails tapped thoughtfully against it as he reread it.
Father,
In recent days, a string of unstable actions from one of Hogwarts students, a Cho Chang, has landed one of Hogwarts underclassmen in the Hospital Ward. While this would typically pose of nil interest to me, I too have been accosted by Cho in a fit of her blind fury. Her attempt to attack the girl, no longer caring for the possible punishments she might incur from the Headmaster. Such actions are as follow;
Violently attacking her fellow Ravenclaw, poisoning, and choking. Others under her following have made advances to cause this victimized Raven harm in the stead of Cho. While she's received two months of detention for her assault on Kagome, she's also able to continue her education in Hogwarts without further consequence for her actions.
Father, Kagome isn't safe from Cho's assaults so long as she's permitted to stay in Hogwarts. I can only do so much. As it stands, Blaise has enacted the old decree. Properly removing the younger girl's tie, he publicly instigated the Slytherins' protection, and by giving her his tie, claimed responsibility for her. Kagome is now residing within Slytherin dorms, but Cho is still in School.
I am aware that this is not a matter of importance as far as the Malfoy family is concerned, but it's important to me. Kagome has become 'important.' You know, Father. You are most aware of it, the discrimination of Slytherin House. Had Cho been a Slytherin, she would have been sent straight to a Magickal Restoration Center. As a Malfoy, I can protect Kagome as long as I am by her side; however, I am not always by her side. I'm sure you can see the problem without me continuing to regale you with the Headmaster's poor decision making.
Your son,
D.M.
As if that wasn't enough to take in, the letter he currently held in his hand was from the Zabini heir, depicting a similarly distressing qualm concerning the same young lady. Now, as his son had aforementioned, this wasn't what he'd deem a critical matter, but, well, an opportunity had undoubtedly come knocking. Trailing his eyes back over Zabini's message, he took note of the hastily scribbled script of the refined Zabini. There was worry and haste in his sharp lines and overly elaborate loops.
Mr. Malfoy,
I usually wouldn't reach out to you for school matters such as this, but considering the lack of action on our Headmasters part, there's little choice. I bring to your attention two issues of great urgency.
The first is the attack on one, Kagome Higurashi, by one Cho Chang. The latter has received two months of detention for attempted murder. She's not stable. Cho has shown such in multiple outbursts that have ended in your son being struck by her. Such fits have led to Kagome being poisoned, then nearly choked to death; the second concerns a more significant matter of importance. The father of Kagome Higurashi, as of recently, was released from Azkaban. My sources have informed me that he'll be seeking out his daughter for "retribution" on his incarceration. I am young, and therefore, can do little to protect this little bird.
I am reaching out to the Malfoy Matron in hopes of some form of security for the girl. I don't know what all you can do, but I know you can do something, which is more than what I am capable of right now. Please help.
Sincerely,
B. Zabini
A sudden tapping at his window had him frowning as he turned and stood to greet the owl perched on the sill. It flew off a bit as he opened the window, then with a flutter of its wings, it settled itself down again, lifting its leg.
"I'm quite popular, it seems." He coined the birds' bag and watched it take off to the owl perch of the Malfoy Manor for a snack of some kind. Cracking the seal of the letter, he pulled from it a neatly folded parchment and read aloud, "If you could find some time, please check in on the mother of Kagome Higurashi. She hasn't responded to the attack on Kagome. Perhaps it's nothing, but I've grown worried over the duration between the assault on Kagome and her mother's lack of response. I know I'm pressing the issue, and with the Triwizard Tournament just around the corner, it's probably not what you wish to deal with, but this is most imperative. As I mentioned in my previous letter, the name Malfoy holds quite a bit of power. It's a shame she wasn't born Kagome Malfoy. Your Son, D.M... boy isn't subtle."
"Lucius? Is something wrong?"
Turning from the window, Lucius gave a charming smirk to his wife, "nothing for you to concern yourself. I need to pay a visit to the Ministry, however. It seems the Headmaster is slacking in his duties."
Narcissa frowned but nodded, "nothing that has to do with Draco, I hope."
"Depends on how you perceive the situation, my love." He folded all three letters and pocketed them, "I'll be back late, head to bed before me."
Narcissa pressed her lips softly to his cheek before watching him leave through his quick access Floo to the Ministry. She hoped Draco was okay. If he wasn't, she at least had faith that her husband would see to it that he would be.

Kagome sat in the common room; it was quiet as she listened to Draco and Blaise converse in hushed whispers further in the room. She could see the looks they were giving her, not like she was blind to them.
"What happened today. The rumor mill is buzzing right now." Pansy asked as she entered the common room, making her way over to where the Ravenclaw was seated by herself. The girl curled in on herself in front of the warm fireplace.
"Terry Boot, that's what happened." Muttered Kagome as she flicked a piece of hair out of her face, turning to look at the female Slytherin.
The refined girl took the seat next to Kagome and dropped her bag on the floor by her feet. "Hmmm. What did he do." Pansy asked, her eyes narrowed as she looked at the girl next to her. There was more to the story than their little Raven was letting on. She could tell from how Draco and Blaise were arguing back and forth in the corner of the common room; their voices were too low to be heard.
"He called her the whore of Slytherin and wanted his turn to have some fun," Blaise spoke up clearly, standing and making his way over to the girls. He took the spot next to Kagome. Draco occupied the armchair off to the side of the settee.
Kagome said nothing as she could feel the anger almost roll off of him as he sat down. She turned her attention back to the flickering flames of the fire. Breathing in deeply, she held the breath of air before slowly releasing. Relaxing into the exhale as she tried to tune her Slytherin friends out. It didn't work.
"Though our little Raven did sink her claws into him," Draco gave an irritatingly smug smile, catching Kagome's eyes as she blushed at the vague approval.
"Oh?" Pansy looked at Kagome in excitement, "I knew you had some fight in you. Just keep that up!"
Draco shook his head, "You just needs to work on not getting caught. We'll make a Slytherin out of you yet."
Blaise gave a soft chuckle after hearing that, looking at the Raven he'd claimed as his own. She still wore his necktie, which he liked. Draco was right, they could make her a Slytherin with some pushes and nudges here and here, but it seemed Kagome might have a bit of Slytherin tucked under the folds of her feathers already. Who knew what they'd find if she decided to spread her wings and fly.
"What time do you have detention?" Pansy inquired, rolling her eyes at the two males who scowled when she asked.
"Tonight, seven sharp with Professor Snape," Kagome answered, her eyes leaving the fire to look at Pansy as she spoke. The mention of time caused her to bring her wand out. She cast a quick Tempus spell, and Kagome gave a small hum, "It's dinner time. Are we going up to the Great Hall? Or do you think we could stay here out of sight, out of mind?" She didn't want to go and deal with any more drama.
"We could ask a house-elf to bring food down to us. Though I think it would be better to go up. It could help stop some of the rumors." Draco spoke up, leaning forward to stand up.
Kagome followed suit, Baise putting a hand on her lower back and slipping it around her waist. She didn't say anything, just glanced at him with a bit of uncertainty before letting him lead her out of the common room.
