Hello! I'm back! This is still the same book don't worry, I'm just editing all the chapters to make them better! Yes, you guessed it. What If is back on and the author no longer has writers block thanks to her best friend Hollyleaf1243! This is just a simple one I wrote.

-What If Hollykit Lived And Birchkit Didn't

Hollykit felt her gaze stretch to where Firestar was signalling her with his long ginger tail. She took a deep breath and stepped forward, struggling to keep her head held high amongst so many cats. She stopped walking when she was just below the Highledge and she gazed up at Firestar with huge blue eyes, studying him, waiting to see what he would do next.

When he waited for a moment, Hollykit took the time to study her audience. Brambleclaw, a young, strong warrior who'd played with her regularly as a kit when she'd lost her littermates back in the old forest. I still miss them she thought sadly, remembering Larchkit's happy face and Birchkit's cheerful smile.

Ferncloud and Dustpelt sat in the front row, beckoning her forward with loud purrs of encouragement and swishes of their tails. They're proud of me, and I'll make them even more proud now that I'm going to be an apprentice!

"This is a good day for Thunderclan," the ginger leader began and Hollykit settled into a sitting position. "By naming apprentices, we show that ThunderClan will survive and remain strong," he went on. Hollykit blinked, and nodded, hoping he'd get to the part where she would become a 'paw quickly.

"Hollykit, from this moment until you earn your warrior name, you will be Hollypaw!" she froze, and glanced up at the clouds stretching across the sky. She murmured her new name quietly, hoping Birchkit and Larchkit could hear her, and that they knew she wished they were both her with her, getting their new names as well.

Reality came back to her as the crowds of cats cheered loudly for her. Hollypaw! Hollypaw! The chants rang in her ears and she did a quick circle, and she knew everyone was cheering for her. Every meow she'd heard since she was born was yowling her new name to the sky.

I'm Hollypaw!

She whirled around, facing the crowd once more, her blue eyes stretched wide. I am Hollypaw, and I'll be the best apprentice ThunderClan has ever seen!

She suddenly realized, with a pang of excitement in her chest, that she needed a mentor. Oh StarClan! Who am I going to get?

The cheering died down once Firestar raised his tail and Hollypaw turned back, facing him, the excitement on her face, easy to read.

"Rainwhisker," Hollypaw felt her eyes grow wider and she turned to spot the grey warrior. He was sliding through the crowd, his dark blue eyes round with excitement. I will be the best apprentice ever she thought, looking at him with round eyes.

He walked up to her, looming over her. She stood on her tippy toes, hoping to meet his size, but it was no use.

"You are ready for your first apprentice Rainwhisker, you will be this young cat's mentor," she looked up at him, waiting for him to touch her nose like all the other apprentices did. He didn't move and she felt hurt latch at her. Maybe he doesn't like me...

But then she realized the ceremony wasn't over, and it was after the ceremony that the mentor and the apprentice touched noses. Mousebrain she thought, annoyed at herself.

"You have suffered pain and loss, and you know that even when times are low, to remain loyal to your Clan." Rainwhisker nodded and Hollypaw realized shockingly that Firestar was talking about a she-cat called Willowpelt. She was a former ThunderClan queen back in the old forest, and she died saving Sootfur - well he was Sootpaw then - from a badger, and Sootfur was Rainwhisker's littermate, meaning Willowpelt was his mother.

"I know you will pass on your strength and knowledge to Hollypaw and train her to be a warrior ThunderClan can be proud of," Firestar finished and Rainwhisker nodded thanks to his leader before turning to her.

He leaned downwards and she lifted her nose and they met. He'd accepted her as his apprentice and she'd accepted him as her mentor.

Suddenly, breaking the connection, she was barrelled into by ThunderClan's other apprentice, Whitepaw, a young white she-cat.

"Nice to meet you Hollypaw!" Hollypaw laughed and she cuffed her new denmate over the ears. The white she-cat was a whole six moons older than her. But after Spiderleg became a warrior a while back, she was probably happy to have a new denmate.

"Could I please come with you to explore the territory? And then we can do some battle practice!" her excitement vanished and her ears twitched. "Only if Rainwhisker and Brackenfur agree on it though,"

Hollypaw looked desperately at Rainwhisker and he laughed, amused by the apprentice's quick bond to each other.

"That sounds good. Whitepaw, run over and ask Brackenfur, I'm sure he'll let you come," Whitepaw looked over the moon and she rushed towards Brackenfur and Hollypaw noticed his head nod and she let out a squeal of glee.

"He said yes!" Whitepaw wailed and the two cats barrelled into each other again. After a quick tussle, the two cats got to their paws.

"Let's go!" Hollypaw announced.

Hollypaw was pointed out to every little detail in ThunderClan's new territory. The Sky Oak, the large tree that seemed to stretch right up into the clouds. The ShadowClan border, where Hollypaw met three very aggressive ShadowClan cats marking their borders. The WindClan border, where Hollypaw met a cheerful WindClan apprentice by the name Harepaw. The old Thunderpath, where twoleg monsters no longer roamed, the smell was absolutely horrid. And the lake, a beautiful sight to bestow and she felt she was more interested in that sight than the others.

She knew it all now, like the back of her pelt, now that she was a warrior. Hollypaw was a name long forgotten now; the name that would go down in history was Hollystorm, daughter of Ferncloud and Dustpelt.

"Pick me! Pick me!" she laughed loudly and the deputy, Brambleclaw gave her an amused look. The dark tabby tom had always been a good friend for her when she was down.

"Fine, you lead the sunhigh patrol to WindClan with..." he paused, and gave a quick scan around. "Rainwhisker, Mousepaw, Spiderleg... and Hazelpaw,"

Hollystorm nodded respectively. Hazelpaw was her first apprentice and she already spotted the energetic grey-and-white apprentice dashing over.

"Did someone say my name?" she squealed, skidding to a halt and gazing up at her with round amber eyes.

"You really are a mousebrain, go fetch Rainwhisker and Mousepaw and we'll go for a WindClan patrol," she chuckled, nosing her apprentice forward and she shot off without a word. Hollystorm remembered she was that energetic when she was an apprentice.

Hazelpaw emerged out of the den with Mousepaw and he took off into the warriors den to fetch Rainwhisker and Spiderleg.

When they all gathered around and Hollystorm raised her tail for the patrol to follow her out of camp, her eyes focused.

I'm the born leader of this Clan, I can see it now. I am destined for greatness, how did I not see it before? I just have to keep wishing for good things and they will come in time. I am sure; StarClan will light my future pawsteps with greatness.

"Firestar's dead!"

Hollystorm jolted awake and gave a gasp of surprise as she whirled around from where she had just sent a black Darkforest tom reeling. She felt everyone freeze in the clearing where they fought. She pushed a lump down her throat.

The flame-coloured leader was lying on the grass, almost like he was sleeping. But he wasn't, his chest didn't have the natural movement of a sleeping cat, which gave away he was dead. Sandstorm was beside him, cursing and shrieking to the star-filled sky.

"Is Brambleclaw our leader now?"

"He can't be dead! Can he?"

"I say these words before StarClan, Hollystorm will be the new deputy of ThunderClan!" she froze, and she held her breath, waiting for the newly named Bramblestar to tell everyone is was a joke and laugh.

But he didn't, and it wouldn't be appropriate to make such a horrid joke right after many cats of her Clan had died, including her mother, Ferncloud.

She felt like her paws were rooted to the ground, until Whitewing, her best friend since apprenticeship shoved her forward and she trembled.

She exchanged a worried glance with Whitewing, but the she-cat encouraged her with a gentle tail flick.

She stepped onto a rock so she faced her Clan, nervousness tingling down her spine.

"I will do everything in my power to protect and defend this Clan that is my home," she vowed. And that is when the cheering started.

"He's losing a life!" Jayfeather let out a shriek. Hollystorm rushed in, praying this battle with WindClan wouldn't take Bramblestar away from her.

Please don't let it be his last she prayed to StarClan.

"Bramblestar!" she called to him softly, creeping up to him, her paws tucked under her chest. His eyes flickered open for a moment.

"Hollystorm, I-I k-knew you were des-destined to be a le-leader the moment y-you bec-became an apprentice. I-I must leave you now, be strong, my holly," his eyes faltered for a moment and then they closed.

Hollystorm waited a moment, the silence was deafening, crushing her and she desperately needed to escape this trance.

She nosed him, her voice hysterical as she spoke. "Bramblestar? I know you're still alive, get up!" she knew he wasn't alive, and she knew he wouldn't get up. But that didn't stop her from hoping. A lump formed in her throat and she let out a shriek of agony and pain.

She took off out of the den and into the clearing. "I can't be leader!" she wailed. How can I follow in the huge pawsteps they've left for me? How can I ever fill them? Firestar and Bramblestar, why did you pick me?

Whitewing brushed her pelts and looked at her desperately. She looked fearful for her crazy friend and Hollystorm wailed.

"Hollystorm! Calm down!"

It didn't work.

She took off out of camp, ignoring the brambles as they tore at her pelt. They just made her think of what she had lost. Firestar, Bramblestar, Ferncloud...

She let out another screech of some unknown feeling consuming her. She dropped to all fours and buried her face in her paws.

Sleep came a lot sooner than she expected.

She opened her eyes, and she met blue and green eyes. Holy StarClan! Who is it?

She'd calmed down immensely and sighed quietly, recognizing the scents that she'd know all her life and more.

"Whitewing, Jayfeather?" she asked confusedly.

"We're here, Hollystar,"

There you go! I fixed it up so it's like 1800 words now! I hope you liked it! Anyway, feel free to suggest! As far as my knowledge goes, I'll be doing my first thing with a What If on Crookedstar that you'll see next chapter. That could change, I'll see. Oh, and she didn't receive her lives, they're just comforting her with her new name…
