Meet the Rents (Angel's Version):

Third Person:

"Your parents are visiting," Kris asked in confusion, "They never visit."

The two girls were currently at Angel's house as Angel's aunt busied herself downstairs- ten to one, she was baking cookies. Empty bags of chips surrounded them as a result of the sleepover. Kris sat criss-crossed on the bed clad only in her underwear as Angel wore Hello Kitty pajamas. Kris took a drink of her soda as Angel answered her.

"I know," Angel stressed, "Why do you think I'm freaking out! I have so much cleaning to do! What if they don't think Auntie is taking good care of me? What if they want me to move back with them? What if they don't like Nathaniel? What if-"

Kris slapped Angel on the cheek lightly in annoyance as her eye twitched.

"You're freaking yourself out. Don't sweat it. They said that they would be back from their business trip in a year, so they're back. So what? You can always ask to stay at Auntie's or even at my place if you have to. The point is, everything will be fine... I haven't seen your parents in like three years so I'm actually more concerned at what they'll think of me at the moment."

Angel rubbed her cheek before she brought both her hands to her cheeks in surprise,

"I haven't even thought of that! You had that whole preppy stage the first year of high school! That's why they loved you! Oh no, what if they don't like you anymore? What if they tell me I can't see you again-"

Kris took her soda as Angel ranted. With one swift movement, the soda spilled all over Angel's head. Angel's drenched hair clung down to her face.

"Was that necessary," Angel asked.

"Yes. You were freaking out again."

Angel got a wicked smirk on her face as she grabbed her soda. She attempted to dump it on Kris's head, only half way succeeding.

"Fair enough," Kris said as she ran a hand through her hair, "Though now we both need showers."

"Oh no," Angel said, "That reminds me! What if they don't think I haven't been showering enough! What if they say that I stink?"

"Angel?"

"Yeah?"

"Shut up."

Angel was pacing the floor impatiently. Krysta was currently in the kitchen, trying her best to help clean and organize the messy house (the result of an unorganized fairy-inspired Auntie and a stressed Angel).

"You know," Krysta said, annoyance lacing her voice, "When I volunteered to help, I didn't realize I would be doing all the work!"

Angel opened her mouth to reply, but was cut off by the door bell.

"Yeah, yeah," Kris grumbled, "Go answer it- leave me to be Cinderella without the glamor..."

Angel ignored her best friend to answer the door. When she swung it opened, it revealed a neat looking Nathaniel. He stared at her in confusion, taking in her messy bun, her natural face, sweats, and loose tank top that did nothing to hide the fact she was braless. Without a single word, she dragged Nathaniel into the house.

"Good, you're here!"

"Yeah, but our date-"

"Date," Angel stopped and blinked in confusion.

Realization dawned in her eyes. She hugged Nathaniel,

"Oh, I'm so sorry! I forgot all about the date! My parents are coming here in exactly..."

She glanced at the clock before she continued,

"Four hours and I need to get everything ready. Can you help please?"

"Your parents," Nathaniel asked, "I already met your aunt..."

"I know, but these are my parents," Angel pouted, "They were on a business trip that lasted the whole year, that's why I was staying with Auntie. Granted, I won't be here much longer since school ended and I'll be going to college soon, but still... I need to get the place cleaned and ready!"

Secretly, he was thankful for the opportunity to meet Angel's parents. He only heard small bits about them- mostly from Kris complaining about Angel's father. He had been dating Angel for a year and he had yet to meet her parents... It was rather disrespectful actually.

"I'll help," Nathaniel promised.

"I think that was the most cleaning I have ever done in my life," Kris complained as she plopped down on Angel's couch.

The beginning into to Lion King started to play on the TV- a reward for working so hard. Kris just finished with her shower and managed to clean herself up. Angel dressed her in white jeans, a pink top, and a white vest- just like how she used to dress when she went through that minor preppy stage when Angel's parents had seemed to like her the most (And the last time they saw her since they were always so busy). Angel hoped that Kris dressing (and acting- but that would be a challenge) like she used to would help.

Angel emerged from upstairs with a mere two hours to go before her parents would show up. She dressed nicely with a white dress with a simple scoop neckline and white flats. Her blonde hair was curled slightly. Nathaniel smiled brightly,

"You look nice."

"You don't look too bad yourself," Angel winked, referring to the nice dressy outfit he wore for their almost-date.

As soon as Angel sat down, the doorbell rang.

"That can't be right," she muttered.

"I swear if they're early, I'm going to scream," Kris warned, not wanting to jump into the whole prep act.

Angel stood up and calmly answered the door. Her parents stood there firmly. Her father had blonde hair and golden eyes and adorned a nice suit while her mother's dark brown hair was long and wavy, but her purple eyes twinkled. Her mother's pink dress flowed around her as she wrapped Angel in a tight hug,

"Oh it's so good to see you! You have no idea how much we've missed you!"

In the background, a muffled scream could be heard from the living room- no doubt it was Kris screaming into the pillow, keeping her promise.

"We missed you," her dad said simply as he joined in on the hug.

"I've missed you too," Angel said breathlessly as her mother and father let her go.

"Auntie is gone for now," Angel explained, "Since you guys arrived two hours early. Come on in!"

Her parents calmly walked through the door, but raised an eyebrow at the Lion King playing on the screen. The confusion turned into even more confusion when they noticed not one but two people on the couch. One was obviously a girl while the other was a nice looking blonde boy. The girl was laying on her stomach, taking up a good portion of the couch, with her head in the pillow. Faint snoring could be heard.

"Great, she already fell asleep," Angel muttered.

The boy stood up and put on his hand for them to shake,

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. LeAnn, Mr. LeAnn, I'm Nathaniel."

"And that's Kris," Angel pitched in, "I'm sure you remember her."

Angel kicked the couch which made Krysta jolt slightly. Without lifting her head, she raised an arm and gave a thumbs up as a hello. Angel just sighed.

"Nathaniel," Charles LeAnn mused, "You're Angel's boyfriend?"

"Yes, sir."

"...I don't like you."

Nathaniel paled as muffled laughter from Kris could be heard.

"But why," Angel asked, "Why don't you like him?"

Her father sat at the table reading a newspaper, not even bothering to look up as he replied.

"He's not good enough for you and you should be focusing on your studies, not dating. Guys only want one thing... And I just don't like him- he seems stuck up."

Her mother choked on her drink in surprise, but she made no comment. Angel sighed in frustration. It just went to show that no matter how old she was, her father still was too protective of her, but just not in the normal way. He believed that she should live life to the fullest, focus on studies, and just have fun- but that was fun that didn't involve boys.

"Are you saying you'd rather have me out parting and getting drunk then going to the movie theater with a nice guy," Angel asked coldly.

"You better not be doing any of those things, but if it comes down to it- yes. You wouldn't go to a party without Kris and I know she wouldn't let anything bad happen to you, that includes unwanted advances. With a theater, it's just you and him and I don't like that."

"You know he's good if Kris approves."

"Just because he's good doesn't mean he's good enough and Kris's approval doesn't matter. Mine does."

Angel's fists clenched in slight anger.

"Why you-"

"-Angel," her mother interrupted, "Your father is right. We just want what's best for you and we don't want you rushing things with just one guy whom you hardly know."

Angel sighed and sat down at the table. She rubbed her temples in an effort to try to get rid of a headache.

"What," Nathaniel asked shocked, "They think-"

"-You're stuck up and not good enough," Angel finished.

Angel and Nathaniel were currently at Kris' apartment, the one place that they could speak privately without worrying about her parents seeing them together. Kris, from her bedroom, laughed loud enough that even they could hear her from the kitchen.

"But I-I," Nathaniel stuttered, "I'm not stuck up!"

"I know dear," Angel soothed as she kissed his cheek, "But my father's opinion is really important to me, you know that..."

"Here's an idea," Kris called from the bedroom, "Actually here's several. You could dump him and date some party guy to show your dad that Nathaniel is better than some loose dude. Or you could turn Nathaniel into that party guy. Like, loosen him up, have him party, turn him into a hipster if you want to show your dad he's not that stuck up... You can use Lys to help you."

"I'm not going to let Nathaniel do that," Angel called out, "It seems so fake and-"

"-I'll do it," Nathaniel interrupted, "If it means getting your father to like me, I'll do it."

"I like it," Angel's father announced.

Nathaniel took off the hat in a fury.

"I give up," Nathaniel nearly shouted.

Angel's parents looked at him in shock. In one week, Nathaniel changed drastically. He wore loose baggy jeans, a loose t-shirt, and a baseball cap. He acted like a stereotypical party-goer, calling Angel babe, talking about parties, and a total opposite of what he really was. Her parents disliked him even more, but they figured out what was going on so they acted like they liked the change. Nathaniel was tired of it.

He straightened out his shirt and almost started to tuck it in before he realized he had more important things to do. Nathaniel grabbed Angel's hand.

"Sir, I apologize if I seem stuck up, but that is who I am. I'm a straight A student, always have been. I focus more on my studies then I do on my social life, except when it comes to Angel since she comes first to me. I don't go to parties and I'd rather go to a study session or book club then step foot in a club."

He tightened his grip on Angel's hand,

"And I'm sorry if that's not good enough for you. Sometimes even I wonder if I'm good enough to have her- she's perfect. She's cheerful. She's beautiful. She's... I can't describe it. But I love her."

"And I love him," Angel added, "and we're sorry for trying to trick you but-"

She was interrupted as her father hugged both her and Nathaniel, her mother soon joining in.

"We couldn't be more proud," they whispered.

"Man, I was looking forward to seeing more party-Nat," Kris said from the doorway, making them all jump.

"How long have you been there," Angel asked surprised.

"Since yesterday, I was out of food."
