Poisonous History (Part I)

"It's just an infiltration operation with a required hit,"

Harriet raised an eyebrow but continued regardless about writing her report. She ignored the way Reborn's voice shifted into that demanding baritone that called for one's attention. But she had gotten so used to it that she overcame her instinct and simply ignored it. Where others would've gotten shot for ignoring the hitman, all she got was a dark glare boring holes into her head. She already knew about his mission. In fact, Nono informed her first about it for some reason.

"I know," She answered for what felt like the hundredth time.

"I'll be posing as a new math professor in the local university near their hideout." The man recited almost monotonously and Harriet's hand twitched for her wand, somehow, having the urge to cast a Silencio on the annoying man.

"I know," The witch carefully repeated, trying to keep out the exasperation she felt in her voice.

"I'll be teaching a bunch of brats for a while," His voice had gone clipped and professional.

This time, Harriet did pause in her work in order to look up at Reborn's unreadable expression. She sighed in irritation as she adjusted her glasses. Her eyesight might have been slightly better but she still needed her glasses whenever it came to paperwork.

"Reborn, I know," She responded as neutrally as she could. It wouldn't do to antagonize her boyfriend when he was agitated about something. He tended to shoot random things and her report was within sight. She needed to tread cautiously.

Finally, he stiffened as he lowered the rim of his fedora hat.

"I'll be working with the Poison Scorpion," He monotonously revealed as his fist clenched.

Harriet tilted her head curiously.

"I know,"

With those words, Reborn's calm intimidation broke.

"Who told you?" The man inquired sharply and with a sense of urgency as his dark eyes glared through her emerald ones. Harriet smiled confusedly at the man's abruptness. Of course, she knew Poison Scorpion Bianchi. Anyone with long enough contact within the mafia would have heard of that moniker already. For some reason, the hitman refused to call the woman's name within her presence. Though, she had already heard of her from Iemitsu.

According to the blonde, Bianchi was unhealthily obsessed with Reborn.

Still, Reborn is her boyfriend. And she could proudly admit that she knew Reborn personally more than anyone else. The hitman had proven to be quite loyal (scarily so) and had quite the possessiveness that she abhorred to the point of trying to curse him with magic to no success. Yet.

So, why were people making such a big deal out of this?

"Nono informed me," She stated instead and went back to writing her report.

Harriet scowled as said paper was yanked out her reach.

"Is that all you've got to say?" He demanded almost angrily and, dare she say it, almost self-consciously. Her hand ached badly for her wand but taking out her violent thoughts on Reborn wouldn't be any help.

"What do you want me to say?" She questioned exasperatedly and with a little bit of frustration. "You're a loyal bastard and I trust you. And no matter how I would never trust that woman with you, even with a ten meter distance to separate you, this is a job assigned to you by Nono. So, sod off, finish the job as fast as you can, and go back to me. That's not a request, do you understand? Or I swear by Merlin that I'll–"

She was cut off as the man pulled her out from her seat and proceeded to crash his lips with hers. She absolutely hated it when he did this, cutting her off with a kiss. But, then again, she might just have to reconsider that as she sighed into his lips, giving in.

When they parted, she gave him a chaste kiss on the nose, making his brow furrow in slight annoyance.

"If that's what you've wanted me to say all along, you should've just said so. That report isn't going to write itself, you know?" She deadpanned as she snatched said papers from his hand with a wink, taking a seat again as she picked up her pen.

He smirked.

"But that wouldn't be as amusing now, wouldn't it?" He purred as he wrapped his arms around her shoulders from behind.

Almost absentmindedly, she flicked him on the forehead with a finger, making him back away and scowl darkly at her. Even when she had started to grow feelings for this man, she hadn't honestly expected him to be such a physical person when it came to expressing his affections. Not that she was complaining. But for such a close-off assassin, she anticipated something along the lines of a more... professional relationship. But, then again, Reborn made it a habit of breaking her expectations. Like she did with his.

"Now, about that mission...?" She queried almost innocently as she looked over her shoulder.

If possible, his expression further darkened.

"A minor Famiglia sold us out," He gritted out as he crossed his arms and leaned on the wall, his fedora hat shadowing his expression.

Both knew that every mission given to them was confidential. But, Reborn made it a rule to always know each other's statuses. Just not knowing what she had gotten herself into drove him up the wall, he admitted grudgingly since it had been mainly his fault why she had gotten mixed up with the mafia in the first place.

"Well, you'll take care of them," She commented almost casually even if she was anything but inwardly.

Treachery was something both of them did not forgive easily.

Harriet could just feel the smirk that he was harbouring at the moment.

"Did you even need to ask?"

Cheeky bastard.

O.o.O

Harriet didn't really want to go behind Reborn's back.

But she assumed that it might as well be fair considering the thorough background check he had performed on her when he was still at odds with her. Unlike him though, she didn't have to resort to contacts who would look into him because she already had the Genus Incrementum Potion doing its work for her. Though, all she needed to know were the basics anyway. If she wanted to know about his past, then she would let him be the one to come clean to her.

It was easy to acquire his blood sample considering how he occasionally came back to their apartment bloody one way or another. Though, it wasn't always his but she had been meticulous in identifying his blood from the ones that stained his dress shirts.

She wasn't that stupid in assuming that his real name was Reborn. But she acknowledged that it was the name he currently responded to.

The results showed that his birth name was Renato Castellone, birth date was on October 13th of 1976 in Florence, Italy, his parents were Martha Acerbi and Armando Castellone and, apparently, he was also the Heir of the Noble Family of Castellone.

Since she instantly gained a bad feeling the instant she read 'Noble Family', she might've done a little digging about the Castellone Family. Apparently, they were one of the most prominent families in Italy that was said to be a descendant family from the line of Grand Dukes of Tuscany. They held a certain power over the city of Florence before they were massacred during 1983 or exactly sixteen years ago. Also, there weren't any mentions of them having an heir and there wasn't any child mentioned in the massacre. Harriet wasn't certain if they had any involvement with the mafia but the Acerbi Famiglia, assuming Martha Acerbi was associated to them, were a notorious minor mafia family presently residing within the coasts of France.

The information she had managed to obtain about the family just felt so...impersonal in relation to the Reborn she knew today. But looking at the dark haired man in the photo, Reborn bore an eerie resemblance with the man; from the dark hair, to the face structure, and even the curly sideburns. But, the eyes were certainly his mother's. Armando had piercing purple eyes while Martha had kind dark onyx eyes and wavy red hair. She didn't know if anyone already managed to make the connection but considering how it hadn't been exactly easy to obtain any photograph linked to the Castellone Family, she wouldn't be too sure about it.

Though, she already knew that Reborn was four years older than her and he never exactly enjoyed celebrating his birthday. And it kind of surprised her to know that both of their mothers were redheads.

Harriet wondered what led Reborn to the mafia or to being a hitman. But looking at the photo of his parents, she decided that she might as well not ask.

Still, when Reborn arrived back from another mission, she burned all of the evidences of her search and resolved to just appreciate who he was today.

O.o.O

Reborn and Iemitsu weren't kidding when they said that Bianchi was obsessed with her lover.

Especially when they arrived from their mission after two weeks and the first thing Harriet saw when she encountered them at the Vongola base was Bianchi hanging all over the hitman. She could remember her hand twitching badly for her wand and she didn't miss the demanding look Reborn sent her. She was tempted to just turn around and ignore them. But being a certain hitman's lover required her to pay attention to him when he demanded it.

Rolling her eyes, she did some wandless magic and summoned the...teenager away from Reborn. The pink haired woman looked to be only around fifteen to sixteen and Harriet understood Reborn's tolerance of her behaviour. He's always been a gentleman and Harriet knew where that conduct came from. She was just not willing to admit that to Reborn for fear of him finding out that she had found information on him.

Still, she watched as he took a large step away from the pink haired teen and briskly strode to her side.

"You could've been quicker about it," He hissed at her as he glared darkly.

"I could have but you two just looked... comfortable together," She smiled at him thinly. "I can't help myself,"

He lowered the rim of his fedora hat but she could easily sense that he wasn't exactly in the best mood at the moment. Sighing, she turned her eyes back to the pink haired teen and met glaring jade eyes instead. It seemed that she finally took notice of Harriet's presence.

"So, how was your mission?" She directed the question to her lover.

"It's classified," Bianchi cut in sharply, her scowl matching the dislike burning in her gaze. It seemed that she wasn't uninformed when it came to Reborn's girlfriend. Harriet wondered how she handled it. She hadn't been exactly about rainbows and flowers when she found out that her previous crush, Cedric Diggory, was dating Cho Chang. She could still remember wailing to Hermione about the unfairness of it considering that she met Cedric first through Quidditch.

The almost petulant way the teen did it made Harriet smile. It reminded her of how she used to be when she didn't want to involve others in her and her best friends' adventures or secrets. She sometimes missed being a teenager. She had always been an emotional wreck.

"I managed to gain a fan club in the university and it interfered with our operation." Reborn merely stated in annoyance.

At least, she now knew why it took them two weeks to return.

Bianchi looked almost scandalized at Reborn's casual way of simply revealing their mission. Harriet shook her head in amusement. Reborn did always hate fangirls. And she did always hate fanboys. Still, looking at the white version of her lover's fedora hat perched on Bianchi's glossy pink hair almost made her want to grin. Almost, since she knew her boyfriend wouldn't appreciate it. He wasn't amused at how she found others' crush on him amusing. She wouldn't tell him that it was his reaction to them that was amusing, not exactly them. Merlin knew that she wanted nothing but to curse their eyes just so they would stop ogling him.

"You know what, Reborn," She smiled sweetly at her boyfriend who shifted away from her slightly, cautious. "Bianchi and I are going to get along just fine,"
