Alligators and Tinsel

Tiana wasn't sure how Naveen ended up covered in tinsel, but it was an image she thought she wouldn't ever forget.

"Ooh-ee!" she laughed. "Wish I had the money to take a picture o'this!"

Naveen scowled at her. "Are you going to help me get it off or not?"

Tianna laughed some more, but did start picking it out of his hair. "The tinsel is s'posed to go on the tree, hun."

"You think I do not know that?" Naveen pouted. "It was not me—your friend Louis did this."

"He's your friend, too," Tiana said, rolling her eyes. "Come stand by the tree. May as well cut out the middle man."

He moved over by it and started picking tinsel off his sleeves and draping it on the tree branches. "Louis came out of no where with new ideas for Christmas songs—can you believe he wants to play a song about jingling bells?"

Tiana just hummed and pulled a piece of tinsel from behind his ears.

"Anyway, he insisted on playing me a sample, even though I cannot okay it because you make all the big decisions for the restaurant and—"

"You think I make all the big decisions?" Tiana interrupted, surprised.

"Uh, you do," he said, shifting uncomfortably. "It is your restaurant."

"Our restaurant." She hummed again, thinking. "Why don't you be in charge of the music from now on? You know more 'bout it anyway."

"Really?" Naveen asked, standing up straight in excitement.

Tiana dropped her hands to pick at the tinsel on his shoulders. "Yeah, I don't see why not."

He beamed and leaned down to kiss her. "I should get tangled in tinsel more often."

Tiana sighed. "I s'pose so. How did this even get here?" she asked, tugging a bit of tinsel out of the collar of his shirt.

"I was trying to tell you. Louis blasted me with his trumpet and all the tinsel blew out of my hands."

"Was the song good?" Tiana asked, amused at that mental image.

Naveen shrugged and scratched his head. He dislodged several pieces of tinsel from his hair. "It was okay. I told him to make it more jazzy. He seemed inclined to agree."

"See, you already knew you were in charge of the music," Tiana said, kissing his cheek. "But you might be pulling tinsel out of your hair for weeks."

He groaned and tried to shake all the tinsel out of his hair. He was largely unsuccessful.

Tiana pressed a hand to her mouth to hide a giggle. "I think you look cute," she said.

"Cute?" he repeated, scandalized. "I do not look cute. I am manly and debonair—never cute."

"Keep telling yourself that," Tiana replied. She kept tugging bits of tinsel out of his hair and off his sleeves. Thoughtfully, she said, "This restaurant has been my dream for as long as I can remember. I guess sometimes I forget that I'm not the only one who loves it here."

Naveen smiled down at her. "Well, it is okay. After all, you are usually right in your decision making."

"Yeah?"

"Yes." He put some tinsel from his hair on the tree, and added, "But I am still waiting to be made head mincer."

Tiana smiled. "I think a promotion is in order."

"Yes," he said, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.

She smacked him. "Stop it." But she pulled his face down for a kiss anyway.

And when she started playing with his hair and ended up with tinsel instead, well, she didn't mind.
