Chapter V: Into the Waterfall
Three familiar light haired walked along a dirt path down towards Takigakure (Village Hidden by a Waterfall). Their path was covered in a thick sheet of fog. Trees that surrounded their path were covered in thick, wet moss. The grass that complimented the ground of the forestry was wet, signalling that it maybe rained the previous night.
"This fog is so thick…" Samui stated. She squinted her eyes in a failed attempted to see more than 10 meters in front of her.
Omoi's eyebrows furrowed, "Maybe shinobi of the hidden mist will come and assassinate us!" He said in a worried tone. "It'll be over before we know it"
"I won't let that happen." Naruto said with a determined face as he walked. Even though Omoi was well known for over thinking situation and having a constant negative attitude towards everything, Naruto took his comrade's words very seriously. I wouldn't let anyone lay a finger on his precious people.
The fog didn't bother the blonde Jinchuruki much. Having Zabuza as a father figure really helped adjust his eyes to seeing easily through thick fog.
They only walked for another hour or so before a tall mountain came into view. It wasn't the mountain that surprised them. It was the long, yet narrow waterfall that ran down the side of it. Like a large piece of silk, it flowed down with a flawless nature that would put anyone's eyes in pure bliss.
"There it is." Naruto said.
Samui and Omoi jaws nearly dropped in awe. "The village hidden by a waterfall." They spoke in unison.
They walked until they came to the base of the mountain; where the waterfall ran. The base of the waterfall was a small circular pond. It was surprising to them when they noticed that there was no sign of impact between the waterfall and the pond water. No splash, no ripple, no sounds. Pure bliss. It was flawless.
On the rock wall next to the falls was there was a small mark engraved in it. Two symmetric lightning marks; it was the mark of the village hidden by a waterfall!
Naruto walked up to the marks on the wall and place a hand over it, making sure to cover the whole marking. When he lifted his hand, the markings glowed silver quickly, then the glow faded. He flipped through a series of exotic, foreign hand signs that Samui and Omoi had never seen before. When he was done he placed his hand back on the markings on the wall. It glowed a beautiful sapphire blue. When the glow faded there was a small earthquake before the waterfall began to split, revealing a dark cave behind the pass of it.
"It worked!" Omoi exclaimed as Naruto smirked.
"The waterfall is infused with chakra…" Naruto explained as he examined the water. "The infused chakra plus the rapid acceleration of the downwards pouring water…Anyone who tried to pass through with force would—I don't even want to think about what would happen to their body…" He added.
Naruto's statement got Omoi and Samui thinking if Raikage-sama would be able to pass through with his lightning armor.
They didn't have much time to think as Naruto walked across the surface of the small pond and into the cave. They quickly followed the blond into the cave where they found a dark stair well. "No security?" Samui asked.
"Anyone who knows the way to get in would most likely be friend over foe." Naruto replied. "Although I'm sure there will be more security up ahead." He said as he led them up the stair well tunnel that was lit up slightly by a few torches.
"I'm guessing Jiraiya told you how to get in." Samui said.
"Of course." Naruto replied. "His spy network will prove to be useful in the future."
When they reached the peak of the tunnel they were met by a large clearing in the middle of a large amount of forestry. The sun sneaked by a few trees and caressed the forest group. Not much time was wasted when six black blurs shot down form the tree tops. Six shinobi sporting a headband with a familiar symmetry lightning bolt marking surrounded the trio of shinobi.
"Shinobi of Kumogakure, state your reason of infiltration." The leader of the group spoke.
Naruto raised his arms in the surrendered fashion. With a smirk he spoke "We come in peace." He said. Samui and Omoi followed his actions and raised their arms as well. "We wish to speak to speak with your leader, Shibuki."
The leader of the group analyzed them carefully then he spoke, "Very well. However you will be heavily surveyed during your time here." He pulled out three black strips of fabric. "You will all need to be blind folded as we lead you into our sacred village." He added.
Before they knew it, the three teens were being led through forestry without their sense of vision. It wasn't long before they reached the village entrance. Naruto could sense a few hidden presences. One that stood out form the others. Naruto could feel their eyes heavily laid on him. It was a presence of no other.
They stopped when they stepped foot in the village. It took them a while for their eyes to adjust when their blindfolds were removed. They were met with the sight of a peaceful looking village. It was quite small, but still very beautiful. It was mostly made up of many wooden houses that almost looked like cabins. There were many wells around that provided clean water for the villagers. On route to the meet the leader, Shibuki, they passed by the shinobi academy where a small amount of children were training outside. Naruto couldn't help but smile at the sight that basically described his youth.
Soon enough, they came to a large house that was the same cabin-like style as the rest in the village but it was nearly three times the size of the others. When they entered, there were many old artifacts laid around the entrance, it felt as if they were in a museum. They were led straight ahead and passed through a large pair of doors and into a room. At the back of the room, there was a short table with cushions set around them it. On the opposite side sat a man with long black hair that was tied into a ponytail. He wore a black kimono with a white waist strap.
The six shinobi that led them all the way to the village kneels at the presence of their leader. Naruto, Samui and Omoi followed their example soon after due to pure respect. "Shibuki-sama, visitors have arrives all the way from Kumogakure to see you." The leader spoke.
The dark haired leader looked at the voice of the squad leader. "Very well, thank you Ryo-san, I'll take it from here." At those words, the six shinobi walked out of the room, leaving the trio alone with the leader. "Please sit, visitors." He spoke with kindness in his voice.
The trio gladly accepted his request, walking up to the table with much care. Takigakure wasn't known for having any enemies amongst the hidden village, especially none with Kumogakure, but they had to make sure that they weren't walking in on a trap. They each kneeled on their own pillow on the opposite side of the table with Naruto in the middle.
"My name is Uzumaki Naruto." Naruto introduced himself.
"I am Samui of Kumogakure."
"And I'm Omoi, also of Kumogakure."
"My name is Shibuki, and as you may know already, I am the leader of Takigakure." The ponytail man spoke. "So what is it you had to come all the way over here to discuss with me?" He asked.
Naruto reach into his ninja pouch to fetch a regular sized scroll. He placed it across the table on Shibuki's side. "For me?" He picked the scroll and unrolled. It took him a few minute to read it. It was obvious that he took the time to reread the letter. The trio sat in silence as he read, awaiting his response.
When he was done reading, rolled up the scroll and placed it back on the table. "The Akatsuki, huh?" Were his only words. "And you would like to take our Jinchuriki out of the village."
Naruto nodded. "It seems to be the best choice for her as well as the village."
"I believe you are correct with that statement. Without Fu here, it will be less likely that the Akatsuki will come here. It would be nearly impossible to defend the village with the small number of forces I have available to me currently."
"Speaking of security for your village. Seeing that you agree to all our terms, you will have our full hours service and protection over your village, with a few rule that will be confirmed on a later date." Naruto added.
"Interesting… Allow me a few days to think this over…" Shibuki replied with a hint of unsureness in his voice.
Naruto nodded. "Of course, I completely understand. Please take your time to think over our offer."
"Thank you, I will. In the meantime, please take a few days to sight see around our village. Relax and enjoy your stay here."
"Thank you, we will." Samui said before the trio exited the office.
"So basically that letter said we get their Jinchuriki and we give them protection from the Akatsuki?" Omoi asked.
"Yes, and of course we slipped in a little trump card." Naruto replied. "We added that we know the secret passage into their village and we are will to keep the secret a secret if they accept our offer." Naruto explained with a wink to both his comrades.
"Wow, Naruto, you and Jiraiya must've really thought this one through." Samui praised as they wandered around the village, looking for an inn to crash for a few nights.
"Well it was pretty much all Jiraiya," Naruto replied, scratching the back on his head with a big grin. "I'm just doing his dirty work."
Omoi quirked a brow. "Speaking of that pervert, I wonder where he is." The last two months after the meeting with the Raikage, Naruto had finished up his kenjutsu training with Killer Bee. Meanwhile, Team Samui got their chance to get to Jiraiya, Zabuza and Hakua a little better. It didn't take them long to realize how much of a pervert Jiraiya was. All the respect he earned from his title was washed down the drain in two months.
Naruto chuckled, and even Samui couldn't help but giggle at her teammate's comment. "Probably drinking away his sorrow while being surrounded by women." Naruto replied, causing the two others to laugh at the mental image that had popped into their heads.
Meanwhile, in the Land of Rice Patties, an old geezer known as Jiraiya of the Sannin sneezed. "I bet a million ryo that it wasn't a woman that was talking about him just now." Zabuza nearly whispered to Haku who was walking next to them.
"I bet two million." She replied, both of them on the verge of snickering.
Jiraiya wiped his nose with his sleeve, "Both of you shut up." He glared, but neither of the mist shinobi were fazed very much. "We're almost there."
"Almost where, Jiraiya-sama?" Haku asked.
Zabuza nodded. "Yeah, you failed to let us know where exactly it is we are going."
"Here." Jiraiya said suddenly, hardly letting Zabuza finish speaking.
The two mist shinobi looked around. It was a very ordinary clearing surrounded by a fair amount of forestry. Nothing looked to be out of the ordinary. Not until Zabuza nearly stepped on a patch of ground. He examined it carefully; see how there was a symbol that greatly resembled the sun. It was a perfect circle with six straight, short lines pointing directly away from it.
"Our base." He explained. "Tosogare's new base."
"Sweeeet, so my room can be that boulder over there." Zabuza said then pointed at said boulder. "Oh and, Haku, your room can be that bush over there in that corner." He pointed at said bush.
"And Jiraiya I guess you can hav—" He was cut off when Jiraiya kneeled down near the symbol and flipped through a few hand signs. When he was done, there was a small earthquake. Before they knew it, there was a small dark passage in the ground not too far from the symbol. It was slightly lit up by a few torches going down along the walls. Stone steps were there to make it easily through the tunnel.
It didn't take them very long to get to the end of the tunnel. They finally stepped foot in a large room that would probably play the part of the lobby of the base. It was well lit with torches and had a set of doors on the opposite wall. On the west and east walls there were corridors that went down for what seemed like a mile. Everywhere was very well lit with torches, but it was pretty plain.
"It's pretty empty, but we'll get the place looking nice soon enough," Jiraiya said. "To the left and the right are corridors that lead to your own chambers. You can pick those out later. The doors straight ahead lead to the meeting room and behind that is my room." Jiraiya explained.
Zabuza doggy whistled as he checked out the base. "Nice place you got here, old man." He praised. Jiraiya didn't like the use of his nickname but he had gotten used to it by now. "I guess this is what you were doing two months ago when you left us in Kumogakure after Naruto explained his idea to you."
"Indeed, I came here to make us a base using a few earth style techniques that finally came in handy." The Toad Sannin replied.
Jiraiya led the two mist shinobi into the meeting room. It was basically a very long room that wasn't very wide. In the center of the room was a long table that ran nearly the entire length of the room with comfy looking chairs on the sides and at the heads. On the wall was a world map with a few coloured pins on it. At the back was another set of doors that led to Jiraiya's room.
Zabuza raced over to the nearest chair and laid back on it, making himself comfortable. A loud sigh of relief escaped his lips. "So, Leader-sama, what's the first meeting about?"
Jiraiya walked over to the map on the wall and slammed his fist on a large brown part. "You'll both be setting out to do some surveillance work to figure out what we're up against in Iwagakure. Get settle in, you leave in four days."
After heading those words, both mist shinobi got serious looks on their faces. They responded with nods before exiting the meeting room.
The sun had hardly begun to rise in Takigakure. A familiar blond Jinchuriki had just emerged from the doors of the inn that they were staying at for a few days. He wore a simple white tank top and black, baggy sweatpants that were rolled up to his shins; and of course he sported his usual ninja sandals.
It had only been two days since they had arrived and they hadn't really done much. Omoi really insisted on going sightseeing around the village while Naruto and Samui were leaning more towards just relaxing. So Omoi spent the last few days around the village while Naruto and Samui spent them relaxing, talking and getting to know each other better than they already did since they met each other not too long ago. They even spent a little time training and sparing with each other.
Naruto stretched a little and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes before commencing a light job. The thick fog that would annoy anyone else was actually quite soothing for the blonde. He entered a small piece of forestry where he picked up the pace. He had been jogging for about twenty minute and didn't see a single person already awake in the village.
He tracked deeper and deeper into the woods, losing himself in his thoughts along the way. It wasn't long before he knew it, he had stumbled along the dirty ground.
He cried out in pain as he landed hard on his shoulder. He rubbed and caressed his injured shoulder until he had realized what just happened. There in the dirty path a girl was kneeling over as if she was protecting something.
"M-My name is Fu…"
