Chapter 10: "Farewell"

Starless sky is lying upon me, giving me the sense of loneliness and sorrow. I, sitting all by myself in an airport's waiting hall, only to expect my close friend I cared so much going to leave this country away tos the land of the west, a place that's too far for me to reach.

I knew she never desire to go back to Germany. All her expressions and behavior told me that. Unfortunately, she has no power to fight. She can't fight against her own mother who forced her to go with her. What's worse was that I was given a chance to save her from her mother's will and I had wasted that opportunity.

Now, my mind is at blank… I don't even notice that my friends are already gathering around me, including the returnees from Germany and her mother and sister.

"Minami, it's time."

"Yes, dear mother…" she reacted.

"Minami-chan, are you really leaving us?"

"I'm sorry Mizuki, for not telling you anything. But this is Aki's and my problem, but he failed me."

"Eh? Mi—Minami?"

"Akihisa? He knew you're leaving and he didn't tell us?"

"That's cruel Akihisa, I thought we are friends!"

"… What a trash."

"I hate you, Baka Onii-chan! Hazuki hates you!"

Suddenly, the oldest Shimada, who has already stood by the stair to the plane walked towards me, looking vicious as always. "Thank you for helping me bring Minami back. God bless you for answering to my offer, a bet you knew 100% that you're going to lose."

"Ugh."

She gripped my shoulders and pulled me closer. "I won't forget this favour… I promise I'll pay you back sometime."

"Stop that… Stop talking about that!"

"But you've done soooo much for me. I'd feel bad if I don't return your kindness," she whispered.

I turned my back on her, "Please. Just leave."

"Hahaha! Although you're an idiot, but you sure know how to act like losers, Yoshii-kun!" she laughed maniacally. "Now, Minami. Let's go."

"Yes…"

"… Minami…"

"Thank you, Aki. Really."

"Wait, Minami… I…"

She ascended the stairs to the plane then stopped before entering the door and said, "Good bye, Aki…"

Seconds after that, the plane's engine is starting and then took off. While watching the plane flying away, I noticed that everyone is cursing me behind my back. I turned around and just looking at them pitifully.

"I'm so—"

"I can't believe this, Akihisa-kun!" Mizuki shrieked. "Why didn't you tell me about the deal sooner? I could just rip my test to help Minami-chan climb a rank!" she shot me with disgusted looks.

"Th—that's outrageous Mizuki… and we still need one more for me."

"But at least I can stop Minami-chan from leaving us if I did that! Unlike your useless effort!"

"Mizuki…"

"I'm sure Shouko would also do that if I ask." Yuuji said. Kirishima-san who's clinging at his hand also nodded to confirm. He then spoke again, "You're an idiot after all, Akihisa. You should discuss all important matters with me — because your sorry brain could not handle them!"

"Kuh..."

I dropped to my knees, can't hold back my tears. They are right. It's my fault that Minami left. I've disappointed everyone.

… If only I could turn back time...

"Hm? What is that?"

"A… a missile!"

"Look out!"

BOOOOOOOOM!

The missile has just destroyed the entire airport! Everything is in ruins, leaving my friends and me as sole survivor! What's this? A world war III?

"Akihisa! Behind you!" Yuuji shouted. I quickly rolled to grab a random assault rifle lying on the floor and shot the enemy down.

"Wooohooo! Don't mess up with me!" I yelled. The scenery is just too unbelievable. Mizuki fights with her chemical bomb, blowing the enemies into nasty slime instantly and Kirishima-san friendly-firing Yuuji with her stun guns. Mutsurini, with a knife on his hand, silently decapitated the snipers on their hidings while Hideyoshi make them unconcsious with his beauty.

The enemies are slowly decreasing! This is our win!

"IT'S OUR WIN!" Yuuji cried. Heh, he always takes the spotlight, doesn't he. Wait, on the sky behind him, is that…

"OI, LOOK OUT!"

A drone suddenly flew towards us and blew us apart. Our victory turns to nothing.

…

GUWAHHHH!

WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT?

"What's wrong, Akihisa-kun? You're sweating a lot."

I turned at the pink-haired girl who's sitting next to me. "Err, Mizuki? Nothing! Really! Ahahaha…"

"… I bet it's a dirty dream."

"Well, that's so Akihisa."

"His lewd expression tells us all."

Hey, hey I just saved you guys (in my dream) and yet this is what I get? A scheme to make Mizuki angry?

"Di—dirty dream? I won't allow that, Akihisa-kun!"

"I didn't have a dirty dream, Mizuki."

Now that I think about it. That was a dream from the get-go! There's no way we could move so fast from the waiting hall to the runway in a blink of an eye and those guys also acted out of character. What a random crazy dream!

I pinched my cheek to confirm that the dream is over, and yes. It hurts.

It's freezing here, at the airport. The clock at the center of this hall is still showing 10.00 A.M. but everyone here already looked busy walking here and there. Unlike them, my usual circle and me are sitting idle at the waiting hall without moving our lips. I daresay that they still can't believe our close friend and the only class-F girl beside Mizuki are going to leave us for a place impossible to reach for us at the moment.

I bet Mizuki was very shocked when Minami told her that she's going back to Germany. I suppose I have to do something about her plain expression. However, I can't even manage mine.

Finally they came from the lobby; Three people who the 2 older ones are dragging their suitcases. A group of woman and girls who look very familiar to each other due-to their identical green pupils and magenta hair.

"That's Shimada's mother? What a beauty…" Hideyoshi commented, while Mutsurini is frozen on his seat with sparkling hungry eyes. Well, Shimada-san's body is dangerous after all.

Kirishima-san quickly grabbed Yuuji's head and turned it forcefully at her. "You are not allowed to see another woman's beauty."

"Ugh. Hurts! Stop it, Shouko!"

"I will only stop if you stare at my eyes now."

"That's impossible!"

"Then you don't have to see anything at all."

*poke*

"GYAAAAA! MY EYES!"

Really, these guys should just get married.

I stand up from my seat. I had to, because one of the Shimadas suddenly ran towards me.

"Baka Onii-chaaaan!"

"Hazuki-chan… Oh! Wow wow!" She surprised me because she jumped at me. I had to catch her and spinned to reduce the force.

"Ah, beautiful onee-chan! You are here too!" she ran to Mizuki who responded by hugging her.

"Aki." walked closer was our main star in this farewell event. "… Mizuki, Kirishima, Sakamoto, Kinoshita, and Tsuchiya... Thank you for being here." She bowed a little.

"It's okay, Minami-chan. We are friends, aren't we?"

"Mizuki..."

"… Your mother is really beautiful, Shimada," Kirishima-san praised while staring at Shimada-san's face down her body. "… She's a great threat."

"Fufufu. What lovely girl. Thank you…"

While the girls are chatting, Yuuji suddenly pulled me away to the guys' side. "Oi, Akihisa. It's about time you tell us the truth." He whispered. "I had a guess that this is the very reason you, the most idiot person ever lived on earth, would study all of a sudden."

"Ugh."

"Wow. Is that true, Akihisa? You didn't deny it!"

"… surprising."

Can't tell them the truth yet because Shimada-san is still watching behind us silently. But I guess Yuuji already got a grip on everything. That bastard.

"Minami, Hazuki. I'm sorry, could you go buy me a drink?" asked the mother.

"A—alright… Let's go Hazuki."

"Yes."

"I'll go with you too, Minami-chan."

Soon as the girls left, Shimada-san approached us. "Would you boys step aside? I want to talk to Yoshi-kun, in private."

"… p-private!"

I noticed that Mutsurini's pervert intuition reacted, blood dripping down his lips from his nose. Looks like he's dying to stay and take pictures, but Yuuji dragged him with Hideyoshi and thus, we are finally alone, sitting at the bench of the waiting hall.

"Let's just get to the point, Yoshii-kun," she lifted her sunglasses to her head. "Seems like I've won our bet."

"Tch… you don't need to tell me that."

I couldn't look at her face, but I'm sure she's grinning like demon now.

"Well, I must say your efforts are truly remarkable. You were able to jump from the very bottom of the school to rank 9. You have my gratitude, really."

"I appreciate that if you could revoke our agreement."

"Oh, my! How gallant of you Yoshi-kun," she said. "Why'd you do that far for my daughter? What has she done to you?"

"For me, Minami is…" I glanced at her, "Someone very special to me. Someone whom I can show my true self… Someone worth to fight for," I added. "But seems like I was not fighting hard enough."

"M—Mom, here's your drink."

"Geh!"

I hope she didn't hear that!

"… Akihisa-kun, so you are actually…"

M—Mizuki! She's also there!

"So, Yoshii-kun. Till next time, then." She lowered her sunglasses again and waved us farewell before she vanished to the boarding room.

Without looking at the scene anymore, I unconsciously turned my body away, heading towards the exit door, leaving my friends.

Soon I arrived at the terminal, I dropped myself on my knees.

"It's my fault… I'm sorry Minami, I'm sorry!"

I could hear the automatic door opened. Seems like it's those guys.

"Your mother is really beautiful, Shimada! When will she come back?"

"… Her legs and busts are top-notch…"

Eh?

"She sure seems like a busy woman."

"Yeah, that's why we don't meet often, Kirishima."

W—wait, wait, wait, wait, what?

"WHAT THE HECK IS THIS?"

"Hey, don't yell at an airport Akihisa…"

"WHY IS SHE HERE? I THOUGHT SHE'S LEAVING!" I pointed at the ponytailed girl.

"What are you babbling about, Akihisa? We are here to send her mother to Germany, right?"

"Why did you look as if you understand everything, Yuuji? You told me that you had this 'guess' where you think I'm studying hard to prevent Minami from going back to Germany!"

"Ha? I never said that!"

Well, technically, it's true that he didn't say that, but it was implied on his sentence! And what is this? I am sure that Shimada-san and I was having agreement before the mid-term exam week! Am I still dreaming? I—is this reality already?

Whatever.

What's more important is, Minami is here with us and still kickin'.

I'm still concerned about the sound around Mizuki, saying 'So Akihisa-kun is really…' or something like that. Mizuki was walking behind us with confused face. She must be thinking about something I just spoke to Shimada-san. I told everyone to leave us alone and approached her.

"Mizuki. What's wrong?"

"So Akihisa-kun is actually in love with Minami-chan…"

Aah. I knew it.

I think it's about time I told her my feelings.

"Mizuki…"

"So Akihisa-kun is actually in love with Minami-chan…"

"Mizuki," I shook her shoulder to bring her back from her reverie.

"Akihisa-kun…" she stared deep into my eyes. "Do you not love me?"

"Of course I do. Always have, always will." I answered clearly. "… But I can't lie to myself that I…

"… Also fell for Minami."

She tilted her head downwards, "So it's true…"

Yes. My true feeling. My answer to Hazuki-chan's question back there at the inn. The reason why I was willing to go through hell to save her. I realized that this feeling is not just a mere 'like' as 'like' to a friend. I care about her. I even care about her sister. When she stopped talking at me, it was like the world crumbled down. Never I wish to experience it again.

"Yes," I replied.

"I see." She reacted. "Why didn't you tell me from the start?"

"… I'm sorry."

With her head still facing the ground, she took a deep breath and sighed. It must be very heavy for her, my girlfriend, to learn that I'm holding another feelings towards other girl.

"Well, then!" Mizuki lifted her head, smiling. "You should tell me such important information, Akihisa-kun!"

"Eh? You are not mad?"

"Well, it's true that I'm a bit down after you told me about your true feeling towards Minami-chan. But I'm also relieved you still like me."

Am I still dreaming? I thought she's gonna kick me and break me up, but…

"Now, I must do my best to make you love me even more, Akihisa-kun!" she giggled. "I won't lose to Minami-chan!"

"Mizuki…"

I must be blessed to being loved by such strong-willed girl.

"But wait. Aren't you already my girlfriend? You already won, right?"

"Eh?"

"What's that 'Eh?' for? We've confessed to each other, right- AH!"

That's when I realised. We did confess to each other on the rooftop. She did write me a love letter, but... that's as far as we go. None of us had asked to go out in relationship of girlfriend-boyfriend... Not in any of our messages, not in our conversation...

"Mizuki, could it be... Mizuki had never meant to..."

She didn't react, as if she was waiting me to finish my question.

"... ask me out?"

"Ask Akihisa-kun out?"

"Yeah, like girlfriend-boyfriend..."

"W-what? Akihisa-kun's girlfriend? Me?"

She doesn't look like she understand. Th—that means… after all this time, it was a misunderstanding?

"Well... if that's what Akihisa-kun want..."

"AAAAAAAAARRRRRGHHHHH!"

I ran. Away from Mizuki. Away from my fake dream. Soon enough I catch up with everyone, who's been waiting on the bus stop.

I was a fool. I should've known that the world has always been harsh to me; Got into the worst class with worst friends, a class that only has two woman, being chased down and beaten up by a gorilla-whose hobby is beating me to pulp. Not to mention, I had to go on a trip together with that very same gorilla who failed to read my note because she can't read Japanese very well. Thanks to her, my life (wallet) only consists of dusts, literally. I even had me threw my life on hell's fire to study, which is my weakness, in order to raise my grades and rescued her from her own mother.

Yeah, the world has always been harsh to me. I shouldn't have thought about having Mizuki as my girlfriend from the start because it won't let me to achieve my dream.

...

But thanks to those daily life and experiences, I can understand now.

That gori- Shimada Minami...

... Is my whole world...

Soon as we arrived at the bus stop, we separated our way and walked to our home. However, I silently took a turn and chased Minami and Hazuki. I need clarification!

"So what actually happened, Minami?" I asked the blushing girl who's walking beside her sister.

"Just read this letter," she answered, passing a piece of paper to me. "I'm sorry. I was supposed to give you earlier at the bus."

I quickly unfold the paper and began reading.

Dear Yoshii Akihisa,

My deepest apologies for making you study very hard, but please notice that I made our agreement because I'm concerned about my daughter. I wanted to know what kind of guy her first friend in Japan is and thanks to you, now I know everything. Although you are a genuine idiot, you are a golden-hearted boy, willing to do anything to help anyone even though that means you're going to drag your feet on the ground. With someone like you, I can feel at ease to entrust my daughter to you.

Last but not least, I know it's impolite for me to ask you more than you have done, but please do not leave her. No matter what happened, please stay by her side.

"What a troublesome woman," I grinned. Happy, relieved, but also annoyed at the same time. "Hmm? What's this?"

P.S.: I'm happy to hear your feeling towards my daughter and I am pretty sure she's also holding the same affection. But just so you know, I won't give you my blessing if you stay an idiot!

Wh—what is she talking about? Minami likes me too? Is this some kind of joke? There's no single clue that she likes me! She always tortures me body and soul, and she enjoys that!

"So what's this all about, Minami?" I could feel my sweat dripping my forehead.

"We—well! I don't know either! My mother is always unpredictable and sometimes terrifying!" she answered. "But know this, Aki. Mother is very picky to my friends. She doesn't want me to assort with stupid people. So there must be a reason why my mother let you be my friend, Aki."

"I don't know why, but it hurts my feeling."

Suddenly, someone pulled my hand. "I know why!"

"Really? What is it, Hazuki-chan?"

"Because Mom sees you as Hazuki's potential husband!"

"Hazukiiiiii!" Minami yelled.

"… Or Onee-chan's husband."

"Huh?"

"It could be Hazuki's or Onee-chan's! Right Onee-chan?"

"Ah! Ah, uh! Well, about that… uuuh…."

Minami was panicking. It was normal to be panic at such moment. I'm also fidgeting on my feet and my heartbeat is unstable. I need to avert this to another topic!

"Say, Hazuki-chan. Would you come to my school this Friday? We'll be holding a festival! I'm sure it will be fun!"

"Of course! Hazuki will come!" she answered enthusiastically.

"The drama, huh? I'm still not ready Aki… What should I do?"

I scratched the back of my head before I gave her a grin, "Well, wanna practice together? He he. I'm actually not ready either…"

In the end, it's actually not bad to go through hell, summoning up all my energy to put my focus on studying, an activity I never fond of; Because at the end, I'm able to erase our bad circumstances and ultimately win back Minami's charming smile, dazzling in front of me.

I won't let it disappear again!
