thoughts: Guys, guys... I think I've lost my humor...! Damn these angst-y feels.
In a few hours, I will be returning to college. And thus, I lament.
dedication: Showering you in Fairy Tail drabbles 'cause you are that special, les.
pairing: Laxus & Mirajane
disclaimer: Applies.

collecting stardust

Mirajane sits and smiles, warm and endearing, basking in the madness and chaos that is Fairy Tail. Whirls and streaks of reds and blues and violet bounce off walls, off people, and the guild (as always) is in ruins. And if she were, perchance, a random bystander, she would even see before her eyes an apocalypse in the making. But the endless bliss and pure joy on everyone's faces makes it all worthwhile.

Mirajane sits and hums and wonders about the one person missing, with a heavy heart and downcast eyes.

She stares at him from across the room, screaming at him to look up, to turn around. But there is no sound. His back, she finds, is so heavy and burdened with guilt and sorrow and confusion. And she wants more than anything to lift him up, to help him fly, with smiles made of glitter and love and infinitely many hands to hold.

But as the minutes tick by, she lets her love subside, and she tucks away her hopeful smile — until next time, when she tries again and again.

Mirajane sits and sighs and wonders if that person will ever turn around.

"Laxus."

She tries and tries to hide the obvious pain, but she knows he hears it anyway. He looks at her and she at him, and he shuts his colorless eyes because he doesn't want to see her like this.

And when he opens them again, she is filled with his hurt and his regret, but she doesn't dare to falter. Because one slip, one hint of weakness, and she knows he won't be there when she looks back again.

He hesitates to put a large, warm hand on her shoulder for a fleeting moment, and then it's gone. Her shoulder feels bare, and she stares at him hard with sad, sad blue eyes.

"Mira."

She almost crumples and surrenders at the sorrow in his voice.

As he turns to leave his guild and his home, his cloudy eyes linger on her for just a second longer.

"You'll be okay."

And she swallows the lump that held back all her worries and her fears, her desires and her wishes, and most of all, her precious love. The disappointment crushes her with a dull, numbing pain, and she can't find it in herself to smile for the sake of everyone else. She doesn't watch him leave.

Mirajane sits and cries and wonders if that person will ever say what he really means.

ending notes: I had quite a hard time writing about this pairing. And I really, really wanted to make this a happy one, but all that spilled out was angstangstangst.
I hope you like this, les! (&where'smysexynalu, bitch)
