Chapter 14: The Calm Before the Storm
"Legends are all to do with the past and nothing to do with the present." Lauren Bacall
Leah sat in the middle of her mother's couch with her elbows on her knees. Ann's words on constant repeat in her head. She was feeling many things but the two emotions that were strong enough for her to identify were betrayal and disbelief. She couldn't believe no one in her tribe thought to mention this part of the story.
"Maybe they all believed it was bull shit. I kind of think it is. It has to be," Leah muttered but she knew she was lying. If she really thought it wasn't true she wouldn't be as nervous as she was. If this legend was true that meant all the progress she made in her life was a waste. All of her struggles to ignore the hurtful things that happened in her past would be for nothing. She would end up right back her in Forks raising one these shapeshifters' baby. She shook her head this wasn't how it was supposed to be. How was she supposed to forgive them all and come back and part of history? She wondered if there was be a way to break it or out smart fate.
Leah's concentration was broken when she heard the keys jiggled and the door opened. Charlie and Nahuel entered the house. He seemed so happy to see her. She hoped she was giving off the same expression. He was the other reason she was so concerned about all this. In the little while she had interaction with Nahuel she had fallen under his spell and she didn't want their connection to be broken just because of some damned prophecy.
"Hey Leah is your mother home yet?" Charlie asked and Leah simply shook her head. She was forcing herself to focus on Charlie when she really wanted to gaze upon the sexiness that was Nahuel.
"So you have plans for dinner?" He asked.
"Take out, probably Chinese. Let me know if you want some," Leah responded she tried not to sound somber but she knew she didn't sound like herself and the others were bound to notice it.
"Okay I'll let you know. I'm going to head upstairs to change. Let me know when you order," Charlie jogged upstairs and left Nahuel and Leah alone. Nahuel had already change from work and he was wearing flannel button down and jeans. He looked great and comfortable and Leah just wanted to be close to him as she sorted out her thoughts. He sat down beside her and she scooted toward him and rested her head on his shoulder. Nahuel wrapped his arm around her waist and kissed the top of her head.
"I have been waiting for this moment all day. As expected Miss Clearwater you have not disappointed me. You are breathtaking and lovely, I only wish I knew what was weighing so heavily on your mind." He asked and Leah tensed a little.
"I'm not sure I can tell you yet. I want to but I need more information first. I'm glad you came over I needed to see you," she confessed as she looked up at him. He stared back into her vulnerable affectionate eyes and his concern grew.
"You told me you wanted me to come over after work and if you want me in your presence there's nowhere else I'd rather be." Leah looked at Nahuel and tried her best to reframe from giggling at him. She loved when he talked romantic but she just wasn't used to it so it seemed odd.
"Well now that you're here what would you like to do," Leah asked she was hoping that he would embracing her like he did in the kitchen. She needed something hot and steamy to transcend her out of this mood.
"I'm not sure. I've never been coupled with someone so I don't know what's really acceptable. I'm fine just sitting here with you," Nahuel answered honestly and he hoped Leah wasn't expecting anything exciting because he was truly in unknown territory when it came to her.
"Good answer." Leah kissed his cheek. It wasn't the answer she really wanted but it was close enough. I mean how could she be mad at a man as fine as him simply want to be close to her.
"I'll be right back." Leah worked quickly to create a little moment for Nahuel. She popped popcorn, pulled her favorite movie out, and grabbed her blanket from her room. She handed him the bowl and he looked at if confused. She wrapped the two of them successfully in her red blanket. She grabbed a handful of popcorn and shoved it in her mouth. As she crunched on it Nahuel watched her curiously. Leah was alarmed by his gaze momentarily. She offered him a taste of popcorn and he scrunched his nose up.
"Really?" Leah chuckled amused by his protest.
"I don't like the way that stuff smells. What is it anyway?" He asked honestly.
"It's popcorn and trust me you'll like it." Leah waved the popcorn in his face playfully and he moved away. He chuckled a little bit but still didn't want to try it. Leah turned around and sat upright in Nahuel's lap. "Come on, please! For me," Leah cooed.
"And what happens if I don't like it?" Nahuel challenged and raised his eyebrow.
"I'll reward you for your efforts but I think the taste will be reward in itself," Leah said seductively. Nahuel quickly placed a couple of the morsels in his mouth and to his surprise he liked it but he wasn't about to tell Leah that. He scrunched his nose up and pretended it was nasty, he wanted to be rewarded since she made it sound so appealing. Leah narrowed her eyes for a second she didn't know why but she felt he was fibbing. She hunched her shoulders and kissed him regardless. It wasn't like she didn't want to anyway. She kissed him fully and freely. She scooted closer to him and flushed her front to his. She hadn't realized how solid Nahuel was. He was strong like a rippled, cut, brick wall but soft and romantic. He was everything she wanted and evidence was quickly growing that he wanted her too.
"Leah," Nahuel breathed and pushed her away gently.
"No, no, no" Leah whined and fought for her position close to him. She went kiss him again and Nahuel's passion multiplied. He just needed some space to cool off. He wanted to be a gentleman but at the same time he just wanted to be a man and just ravish her.
"God Nahuel, you taste so good," Leah moaned.
"I love the way you feel," Nahuel groaned. "I … I want … we should stop now Leah while it's still safe," he advised but kissed her again anyway. Their make out session started to heat up, somehow ended up with Leah on her back and Nahuel exploring her body with his hands. Leah weaved her hands in his hair. As he began kiss Leah's neck it gave her some time for clarity.
"Nahuel, we should … um, probably change locations," she suggested. Nahuel looked up at her and then came back down to earth. Before they could reposition themselves Leah's mom, Sam, and Emily filed in. They quickly separated but the damage had already been done.
"WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?" Sam roared and Emily jerked her neck and stared at her enraged husband.
"This isn't your business," Emily warned.
"The hell it isn't! Leah do you know what he fucking is? This is NOT acceptable!" Leah didn't say a word. She wasn't going to start an argument with Sam she really didn't care how he felt. She was however, worried what his feelings meant. Was Ann right? Is that the reason he was asking that way? Her mom was home and now was the time for answers.
