Chapter XXII

Founders Day

Elena was getting dressed the for Founder's Day Parade with Jenna's help. After helping Elena, she was going to help Eva to get ready too. Elena putted her necklace on as Jenna helpedher to get into her dress from 1864.

"Ouch, this dress hurts." Elena said to Jenna.

"Suck it in, baby." Jenna said laughing. "If you don't need help, I'm gonna help your sister now, you don't mind, right?" Jenna asked again to her niece.

"Of course you can." Elena said laughing.

Eva was on her bedroom preparing her dress and waiting for her aunt to help her to get dressed. She had already had her hair curled and now it was only her dress. Eva dress was from 1864 and was purple with some flowers on the skirt. She had her dress on the bed when she heard a knock on the door. It was Jenna.

"Need some help?" Jenna asked her niece.

"Yeah, this dress is heavy." Eva said laughing.

"I know, Elena said the same thing." Jenna to her laughing too. Then Eva picked up the dress and went to dress herself.

"Jenna, can you please tie this?" Eva asked her turning her back to her aunt.

"Of course I can." Jenna told her. "So who is gonna be behind you on the Mystic Falls float?" Jenna asked with curiosity.

"It was supposed to be my date from the Miss Mystic Falls but Damon doesn't belong to the school, so it is going to be another boy from school." Eva explained to Jenna.

"Tyler still hopes that you could be together again?" Jenna asked her worried that her niece would end up getting hurt because of two boys, Damon and Tyler.

"Tyler was hoping that we could be together again but I told him what I feel for him is only a friendship and nothing more." Eva explained to her aunt.

"And Damon in the middle of all of this?" Jenna asked her worried.

"I have feelings for him… strong feelings that I can say that are love but until he stops being hanged up on his ex-girlfriend Danielle, I will keep my distance from these feelings I have and be his friend." Eva explained to her aunt. Jenna was a good listener for her nieces, when they couldn't talk with each other.

"It is a good decision. You girls have a good head." Jenna said agreeing with Eva.

"Thanks, Aunt Jenna." Eva said smiling and then they heard Elena coming inside Eva's bedroom. "Hey, Lena. You are beautiful." Eva said smiling at her sister.

"You too, Eva." Elena said to her sister smiling. "Let's go. Stefan is waiting for us at school and we need to be at the float before Caroline starts freaking out by calling us."

"Yeah, I know." Eva said laughing and the two girls leave the house.

While the girls were getting ready, Stefan was getting ready too. He went to the attic look for one of his suits when he had lived in the town. Then he had returned to his room and was finished getting ready. He was having some flashbacks from the past that he really didn't want to remember. He was ready he left to the school were the girls were going to meet him.

At the Mystic Falls High School, everyone was preparing for the Founder's Day which was very important to the town. The preparations were being supervising by Carol Lockwood, the mayor's wife.

"No, no, no, no, no! It's all wrong! The marching band should be in front of the Historic Society." She started to say and then turned to Matt."Matt, get up on the float. Boys, I asked you to put chairs on the Founder's Float. Ladies! Time to get on the float." Carol said to the girls that were present.

"Look at you, all retro." Damon said when he had arrived and saw his brother standing alone waiting for Elena and Eva.

"What are you doing here?" Stefan asked to his brother seeing around the school.

"Why wouldn't I be here? Bonnie deactivated the Gilbert invention, Isobel is gone and it's Founder's Day! I'm here to eat cotton candy and steal Eva from everyone who wants her for themselves." Damon said sarcastically to his brother.

"Don't start with me, Damon." Stefan stated to him.

"Oh, you started this Stefan with that whole Eva is like a little sister to me, leave her alone speech. I'm enjoying that." Damon said smirking.

"As long as you heard it." Stefan said with a cold voice.

"What? You have no sense of humor, Stefan." Damon said to him like he was stating a fact about that.

"Actually I've no sense of Damon humor." Stefan said to him coldly once again.

"Damon humor…" Damon said thinking about that and then turned once again to his brother."Hey look, I get it, I get it. I'm the better, hotter, superior choice and you're scared, now that Danielle is out of the picture, that I'm gonna turn all my attention to Eva. But don't worry, Eva is not Danielle." Damon stated that fact.

"You're right, she's not." Stefan agreed with him but then they saw Elena and Eva approaching them. They looked exactly like Katherine and Danielle. They smiled at them and curtsied like in the 1800's. Damon was completely mesmerized by Eva's dress and beauty in that dress.

~~~Eternal~~~Flame~~~

Jeremy was in his bedroom, preparing himself for the Founder's Day. He was putting his clothes on, it was the soldier's outfit when Anna arrived.

"Anna." Jeremy said surprised to see her there.

"Look at you." Anna said smiling at him.

"I know, it's stupid, huh? I'm part of the parade; but how are you? I've been so worried and I feel awful." Jeremy asked her worried.

"Why? You didn't kill my mother, your uncle did." Anna stated to him.

"Are you sure it was him?" Jeremy asked her not believing that his uncle could do something like that.

"Who else would have done it?" She asked him rhetorically.

"He doesn't understand, Anna, it's who he is. He hates all vampires. He's just doing what he thinks is right." Jeremy tried to defend his uncle.

"Are you defending him?" Anna asked him surprised.

"No, no way. It's just, I do understand where he's coming from. He's convinced all the tomb vampires want revenge on this town and he's just… he's trying to protect it."He tried to tell her.

"They do want revenge, or at least they did, but that's why we separated from them. My mom wasn't after revenge; she just wanted her life back. I have to get out of this town, Jeremy." Anna told him.

"You're leaving?" Jeremy asked her sadly.

"I've been thinking...you could come with me. I could turn you. I mean...you said you wanted me to. Here." She told him and gave him a flask with her blood inside. "It's my blood. If you die with it in your system, you'll come back." Anna finished telling him.

"Anna…" Jeremy started but she interrupted him.

"I know you, what it's like for you… being alone, always feeling empty inside, no one to understand. But when you're a vampire, you don't have to feel that way. You can shut it off. I can show you how. Vampire, you don't have to feel that way. You can shut it off. I can show you how." Anna explained to him.

"I wanted to, I did." Jeremy finally said and turner away from her. Anna hearing that, appear a sad look on her face. "But I don't think I can. Sorry." He said looking at the flask but when he looked at her, Anna was gone.

~~~Eternal~~~Flame~~~

Elena was with Stefan, and they were talking about John being her biological father.

"John?! Is that even possible?" Elena asked him surprised.

"There is no proof, but he dated Isobel when she was a teenager and he was the one who brought her to your dad's office for the delivery." Stefan explained to her the conclusions that Damon had found the night before.

"My whole life I have never liked this man. I…" Elena said completely speechless.

"Sorry, I'm sorry. I just, I wanted to tell you before Damon dropped it on Eva on some typically inappropriate way and then she would come to tell you." Stefan explained to her once again.

"No, I'm happy that you told me, I just… I really hope that it's not true. What I am supposed to do? Do I just… confront him and say Are you my biological father?"She asked him confused.

"I guess, when you're ready." Stefan suggested to her.

"I'm never gonna be ready. Stefan, I have enough problems with the family that I actually care about. Jeremy hates me, and why wouldn't he? My journal gave him every single reason to." Elena explained to him.

"He's just hurt, he's confused." Stefan said to her trying to confort her.

"He's never going to forgive me and Eva for Vicki, for taking away his memories, for lying to him." Elena said crying.

"He's your brother, he'll forgive you. Just give him some time." Stefan defended Jeremy because he would feel the same way if it was him.

~~~Eternal~~~Flame~~~

Damon was looking around for Eva. He was going to tell her about John being her biological father. He hoped that she would be alright, he hated to see her sad. Damon found her talking with Tyler. He had heard from the other students that Tyler would be on float with her. He didn't like that one bit. Eva was his and no one else's. Damon had finally admited to himself that he was in love with that little human. Now he needed to find closure on Danielle's departure and manipulative antics and he finally could give his full heart to Eva. He approached and interrupted their conversation.

"Sorry to interrupt but can I talk with you, Eva?" Damon asked her.

"Yeah, of course." Eva agreed to talk with Damon and turned to Tyler. "See you at the float, Tyler?" She asked him and Tyler nodded agreeing with her and then left. Eva turned to Damon to talk with him. "What's wrong, Damon?"

"I wanted to talk with you about a serious thing. It is about John, your uncle." Damon said with a serious tone.

"What did my uncle did this time?" Eva asked him worried.

"He did nothing but I caught myself thinking about him and Isobel." Damon stated.

"What about them?" Eva asked him even more worried.

"John and Isobel dated when she was fifteen, and then she gave birth on your father's office… and you and Elena were adopted by Grayson and Miranda, so I thought that maybe John could be your biological father." Damon said to her with a serious voice.

"Are you joking? That can't be!" Eva exclaimed.

"I'm not. I'm serious. Think about it." Damon pleaded with her.

"Okay. You are probably right." Eva said to him after thinking about that. "But if he is my father, why he never showed any sign of love towards me and Elena?" Eva asked with a sad tone.

"I'm sorry for dropping this on you but I thought you should have known." Damon said to her kindly.

"No need to apologize to me. You did the right thing. So thank you." Eva said to him smiling but her eyes said that she was sad. "I need to find Elena and talk to her about this, okay? See you later?" Eva asked him once again.

"Yes, you will." Damon said and watched her leaving to look for her sister.

When Elena and Eva found each other they had almost tears on their eyes. In that moment they knew that the other already knew that John could be their biological father.

"Stefan told you?" Eva asked Elena with a sad voice.

"Damon told you?" Elena asked her sister with the same sad voice.

"Why he never told us? Why mom and dad never told us anything?" Eva said with a sad voice and a pissed voice too.

"I don't know. But they could have." Elena agreed with her sister.

"How are we going to be sure about this?" Eva asked Elena worried.

"I don't know. But I'm not ready neither are you." Elena said and Eva agreed nodding her head.

Caroline was already on the float and was taking pictures with Matt and then they would go on the Founder's Day Parade, in their Civil War costumes.

"Say cheese!" Bonnie said to them.

"Oh wait!" Caroline said to Bonnie and then turned to Matt."Hide your cast, it's not era appropriate!" She said to her boyfriend.

"Seriously?" He asked her surprised.

"Yes!" She said with a serious voice.

"Okay, fine." Matt said to her and Bonnie took the picture when Tyler arrived.

"I want one with Bonnie now." Caroline said to them.

"Here, I can take it." Tyler mentioned for Bonnie to give him the camera.

"I'll be on the float." Matt said leaving while looking at him.

"I said I was sorry!" Tyler said to Caroline looking up at her.

"You made out with his mother and then you beat him to a pulp. You're gonna have to do a little bit better than sorry." Caroline informed and left after Matt.

When the girls decided to stop talking about John being possibly their biological father, the youngest of the twins, Elena told about Jeremy knowing everything since Vicki Donavan's death. So the twins went look for their brother.

"Jeremy! I was wondering where you were. You look great, and you guys did a really great job on the float." Elena said to her brother smiling.

"Go away, Elena and you, Eva." Jeremy said his sisters.

"Jeremy, come on! Please! I don't want it to be like this between us." Elena said to her brother.

"Why don't you have Damon erase my memory again, Eva? Then I could go back to being your in-the-dark little brother." Jeremy said to Eva sarcastically.

"Jer, please." Eva pleaded with him.

"Just don't! You can't fix this that easily; something like this doesn't just get fixed." He said to them and left.

~~~Eternal~~~Flame~~~

When the parade started, Carol Lockwood was commenting about the floats.

"Let's give a big hand to the Mystic Fall's high school Marching Band!" Carol said into the microphone and the town's people saw the marching band and the cheerleads parade and they started to applaud and scream at the girls. "And for a little local history, Mr. Saltzman's students have recreated Virginia's Battle of Willow Creek." She continued to explain and the float arrived while Jeremy and Tyler wave at the town's people and pretended to shoot at each other. "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome our stunning Miss Mystic Falls Court and their handsome escorts." Carol explained about the other float where Elena, Stefan, Eva, Caroline and Matt were with the rest of the Mystic Falls Court and their escorts. They all were laughing and waving to the crowd. "This is Caroline Forbes, Miss Mystic Falls. Aren't they beautiful?" Carol said to the crowd while Bonnie watched and waved at Elena and Eva. The girls smiled and waved back at her happily.

Damon that was watching the parade, saw Bonnie in the middle of the crowd watching too and decided to walk in front of her. Then he waved at the girls, where Eva smiled and waved at him and Elena rolled her eyes and looked away. Elena and Eva looked at Stefan, and both of them smiled at him andthen they waved to the rest of the crowd that was present. Damon finally turned around to talk with Bonnie.

"What do you want?" Bonnie asked coldly.

"Just watching the parade." Damon told her and Bonnie afraid began to leave. "Where are you going?" He asked her surprised to see her leaving.

"Away from you." She simply stated.

"I wanna say something to you." Damon said to her.

"Just leave me alone!" Bonnie said to him trying to leave.

"Thank you. The device that Emily spelled could have killed me. I don't take what you did lightly so… thank you." Damon thanked her for what she did last night.

"I did it for Elena and Eva." Bonnie stated to him.

"I know that, but I'm still very grateful. And… I owe you." Damon said and they looked at each other for a moment. "Enjoy the parade." Damon wished to Bonnie and left her alone.

"Let's cheer for the Mystic Fall's high school football team. Alright! Let's show them our support, everybody!" Carol said to the crowd and a float with the football team came and the cheerleaders leading the float in the front.

~~~Eternal~~~Flame~~~

John was with the Mayor Lockwood, on Grayson Gilbert's office and he was preparing the device for that same night.

"This is the key. Once inserted, the device will be activated. It will work only once, for an estimated time of 5 minutes." John explained to the Mayor.

"Yes, how does it work?" The Mayor asked him with curiosity.

"It's a high-pitched frequency that humans can't hear. Any vampires within a five-block radius will be incapacitated, exposing them. At that time, the sheriff's deputies will inject them with vervain and bring them here, when we will finish them off." John explained his plan to the Mayor.

"And you're certain they're attacking tonight?" The Mayor asked him to be sure.

"I have a source. One of the vampires from the tomb confirmed the attack." John confirmed the plan of the tomb vampires.

~~~Eternal~~~Flame~~~

Inside an old building, the vampires from the tomb were having a meeting, the leader was speaking and pointing into a map of the Town Square.

"Everybody listen up! The plan stays the same. We wait until the firework start; until then, we blend in. Stay a part of the celebration; they'll never see us coming." The leader said to the other vampires.

John and the Mayor were still on the Grayson's office talking about the device.

"They want revenge for what our ancestors did in 1864. It makes us their target." John continued to explain.

In the same building, the leader of the vampires was showing and telling the other vampires a plan to kill all the Founder Families.

"This area here is the stage. This is where the Founding Families are gonna be. Any questions?" The leader asked looking around the town.

The Mayor and John Gilbert were still on Grayson's office. The Mayor was worried about the plan John had.

"We're taking an enormous risk. We're talking about our families, John!" The Mayor said to John.

Anna arrived to the same building that the tomb vampires were.

"Anna? What are you doing here?" The leader asked Anna when he saw her.

John was still trying to convince the Mayor to not worry about the device.

"This is the only way to draw them out and kill them… all of them." John said to the Mayor thinking about the Salvatore brothers around Elena and Eva.

At the Mystic Grill, Damon was standing alone at the bar. When Elena and Eva arrived and he looked at them. The girls had changed back into their modern clothes.

"I like you both better like this. The period look, it… didn't suit you." Damon said to them sarcastically.

"Is that an insult?" Elena asked him a little upset.

"Actually Elena, it is a compliment of the highest order." Damon said to her.

"Guys… don't start…" Eva pleaded.

"Look, I know Stefan is worried about your friendship with my sister." Elena started because she didn't to see her sister hurt.

"Did he mention something to you too?" He asked Elena because he hoped that Stefan wouldn't stop him to be friends with Eva.

"No, did he mention something to you?" Elena asked surprised.

"No, nothing worth repeating." Damon said to her.

"Guys, what did Stefan said to you both?" Eva asked them because she wasn't liking what they were saying.

"So, I think you should stop with the flirty little comments and that eye-thing that you do to my sister." Elena said to him and ignored her sister question.

"What eye thing?" Damon asked her smiling.

"Please, don't hurt her and don't make me regret being your friend okay?" Elena said and left Eva and Damon alone. He seemed hurt because Elena thought he would hurt her sister.

After leaving Eva and Damon alone, Elena looked around and found Jeremy at one table, whose was sitting alone. She went towards him to talk while. Damon and Eva looked at them.

"I don't believe that we can't fix this. I lied, I was wrong. But you're my brother, Jer, and I love you, and I have to fix it. So just tell me, what can I do?" Elena pleaded with her brother.

"You go to hell, Elena." Jeremy said to her while got up and left.

Damon and Eva were looking at each other. She wanted to talk with him about what had happened with Isobel and what Stefan had told him.

"What Stefan said to you?" Eva asked him.

"Nothing that I can ignore." Damon stated to her.

"Please, Damon, tell me." Eva pleaded to him.

"It's better not. You wouldn't like to hear that." Damon said to sighing.

"Okay, okay..." Eva sighed and then looked at his brother and Elena fighting. Damon looked at them fighting too. They saw Jeremy leave the Grill and Damon decided go after him while Eva went to her sister.

Jeremy was walking at the Mystic Falls Square and Damon was walking right behind him. Damon wanted to talk with him because the younger Gilbert wasn't being fair with Eva and Elena. The girls were only trying to protect him from the supernatural.

"I have so many emotions, but I don't have any way to express them. Being a teenager is so hard!" Damon said mocking Jeremy.

"You're a dick!" Jeremy stated to him.

"You do not talk to me like that! I'm not your sisters. And for now on..." Damon said and grabbed Jeremy's arm. "... don't talk to your sisters that way either." He advised the younger boy.

"So, you're going to kill me just 'cause I hurt Eva and Elena's feelings?" Jeremy asked him sarcastically.

"Cut them some slack." Damon said to him.

"They erased my memories." Jeremy said pissed at him.

"No, I did! They were protecting you." Damon exclaimed because he wanted them to understand what they did for their little brother.

"It wasn't their call to make." Jeremy stated and tried to leave but Damon grabbed his arm to stop him. "Let go of me before I cause a scene." Jeremy said to him seriously.

"You'll be unconscious before you even got a word out." Damon said to him very seriously.

~~~Eternal~~~Flame~~~

"Let him go." Stefan said when arrived and saw the scene in front of him. Damon, seeing his brother, released Jeremy and Stefan putted himself between Jeremy and Damon. Then he looked at Jeremy. "Are you alright?" He asked to the young boy.

"Yeah." Jeremy nodded.

"What my brother is trying to say is, don't blame Eva and Elena for this. Damon turned Vicki, I killed her. She was a threat to you, and she was a threat to your sisters. I'm sorry that it happened, I wish that it hadn't." Stefan said looking up at Damon and his brother looked at him.

"You shouldn't have made me forget." Jeremy said to them and then left them alone.

~~~Eternal~~~Flame~~~

After Damon had left Eva, her sister joined her by the bar. Elena had tears on her eyes because of Jeremy told her. They had a sad look on their faces.

"He doesn't want to hear us out." Elena said to her sister.

"He is mad at us. Our little brother is feeling betrayed by us." Eva tried to explain to her twin sister.

"I know… I know…" Elena finally agreed with her sister and then Stefan joined them after talking with Damon.

"Stefan is coming. Do you want me to stay with you?" Eva asked her sister worried.

"Yeah, stay with us. We don't hang out like we used too." Elena said to her sister weeping her tears.

"You girls, are alright?" Stefan asked them.

"Yeah, we are fine." Elena said to him smiling.

"Don't worry Stefan. We ate alright." Eva said to him smiling too.

~~~Eternal~~~Flame~~~

"Good cop, bad cop, I like it." Damon said to his brother with a smirk.

"What are you doing?" Stefan asked his brother not liking the way he was acting.

"He's being a punk." Damon stated to him.

"Eva and Elena's relationship with their brother is none of your business. So stay out of it!" Stefan ordered to his brother.

"Oh, there's only one do gooder role available. My bad. I'm sorry." Damon said sarcastically and laughed at his brother face.

"Get over yourself. We both know you're not doing this for the right reasons." Stefan said to his brother trying to know his intentions.

"You see, there you go with that little jealousy act again. What are the right reasons, Stefan? Enlighten me, please!" Damon asked sarcastically at Stefan.

"Well, see Damon, it's only real when it comes from your desire to do the right thing for nothing in return, and I know that it is an entirely foreign concept to you. I completely understand that you wouldn't get it." Stefan said and stated to him before leaving Damon alone to his thoughts. Then Stefan went to the Grill and saw Eva and Elena talking at the bar.

The Sheriff Forbes was talking with John Gilbert and Mayor Lockwood in her office about John's plan about killing the vampires.

"You want to use our town as bait? It's too dangerous, it's insane!" She said closing the door worried.

"We've gone over the plans with all your deputies, they're all on board." The Mayor Lockwood said to the Sheriff.

"You've gone behind my back?" The Sheriff asked surprised at their attitudes.

"Yeah, because we knew this is exactly how you'd react." The Mayor said to her.

"Our children are here." The Sheriff said talking about Tyler and Caroline.

"Liz, we need to do this. We have no choice, this is the reason for the secret council and our Founding Fathers created the secret council for just this purpose!" John said and with a long pause they were looking at each other.

"I'm the Sheriff, it's my call and I say no." The Sheriff stated to them.

"Richard, let me speak to the Sheriff alone." John said to the Mayor and nodding he left the Sheriff's office.

"John, you're not thinking clearly, I'm not gonna change my mind about this." The Sheriff said to him turning her back and went to her desk. John hit her from behind in the head that left her unconscious. Then he removed her guns and handcuffs her to the radiator. Before leaving, John looked at her with a sad look.

It was already night and Damon was looking everywhere, around the Square when he ran into Anna. She was looking for him or Stefan to tell him about the plan that the tomb vampires had against the Founding Families.

"You're still around?" He asked her surprised to see her in town still.

"There's something you need to know. The vampires from the tomb are planning an attack tonight." Anna told him.

"How do you know this?" Damon asked her surprised that she was telling him that.

"I went to them. They think I'm with them but I'm not. They want the Founding Families dead." She finally told him.

"When is this supposed to happen?" Damon asked her worried about that.

"When the firework start." Anna said to him and then came a long pause.

"John Gilbert wants to use that invention on them." Damon said to her about the invention.

"Then we can't be here!" Anna said to him nervous.

"It doesn't work, it's been deactivated." Damon said to her.

"Well, then a lot of people are gonna die." Anna said to him knowing that the vampires would kill so many innocents.

"Where are they right now?" Damon asked her looking around.

"They're already here, Damon." Anna said to him worried too.

The tomb vampires were meeting in front of a building. The leader wanted to give them the last instructions.

"Remember, we don't know which of them ingests vervain. It's not about the feed, it's about the kill. You know what to do." The leader said and all of them went into the crowd.

Damon was walking toward Alaric. He was going to give him some bad news.

"Ric!" Damon called him.

"Yeah?" Alaric asked him when he saw Damon.

"You keep those nifty little vampire darts in the car?" Damon asked him sounding like it was normal.

"Yeah, why do you ask?" Alaric asked him surprised by that.

"Because this square is crawling with tomb vampires. I think we might need a stake or two." Damon said sarcastically.

"Yeah, got it." Alaric said and left to go to his car.

Damon started to look around for Eva, Stefan and Elena. When he saw them walking around, he went towards them and took Eva's hand.

"What are you doing?" Eva asked Damon seeing that he was worried.

"I'm saving your life and your sister's. In fifteen words or less… The tomb vamps are here and Founding Families are their target." He said directly at the twins and then turned to his brother. "Get them out of here, now!" Damon ordered to Stefan and started to leave.

"Wait, where are you going?" Stefan asked worried.

"That's more than fifteen words, Stefan." Damon said to his brother leaving.

"Wait, Jeremy is out here somewhere." Elena said to Stefan.

"Let's go find him, come on!" Stefan said and picked up the girls hands and they went to look for Jeremy.

"I hope he is alright." Eva said to Elena.

Tyler was at the pool table, at the Mystic Grill alone. He was watching Matt and Caroline talking. Matt and Caroline were sitting at a table and looking at Tyler.

"There was this time, freshman year, when Bonnie and I were in a fight and we swore that we would never talk again." Caroline said to Matt.

"Caroline, give it a rest." Matt pleaded with his girlfriend.

The Mayor Lockwood arrived at the Mystic Grill and went toward Tyler. He wanted him to be safe from the vampires.

"What are you doing here? I told you to go home." The Mayor said to his son.

"I decided not to." Tyler said to his father.

"If I tell you to do something, you do it!" The Mayor said to his son and then grabbed Tyler's arm.

"Let go of me!" Tyler shouted to his father.

Caroline approached them when he heard the yells from Tyler.

"Mayor, is everything okay?" Caroline asked worried while Matt came too and the Mayor looked at them.

"Please Tyler; I need you to go home, now. Take your friends with you." The Mayor pleaded with his son.

"Why? What's going on?" Matt asked worried too.

"I can't explain. All of you need to get home, now. Please." The Mayor pleaded once again to them.

"Yeah, okay." Tyler finally agreed.

"Here, take my car, it's out back. Caroline, Matt go with him." The Mayor said giving the keys of his car. They looked at him surprised and left.

Jeremy was in front of the restrooms. He still was pissed at his sisters. When Anna saw him, she went towards him.

"Anna what are you doing here? My uncle could see you." Jeremy said to her worried.

"I don't care about that. I needed to find you. Come here." Anna said to him and they got inside the restroom.

At the Square, the Mayor was giving his speech like he gave every year at the Founder's Day and for everyone to hear.

"For one hundred and fifty years, Mystic Falls has been the kind of town that everybody wants to call home: safe, prosperous, welcoming." The crowd was applauding. "And we have the Founders to thank for that. That's why I'd like to dedicate this evening's firework display to their legacy." He finally said and everyone applauded while the tomb vampires were around the crowd, looking up at the Mayor. Then he finally looked at one of the deputies.

John still was on Grayson's office waiting for the signal and of the deputies was with him to know when he was time to start.

"Get in position." John ordered and the deputy left the office. When John was alone, he went towards the device and looked at it.

"Enjoy the show!" The Mayor said to the crowd and the fireworks started. The Mayor looked at his wife and they started to leave. The tomb vampires started to follow them, when Bonnie ran into one of them.

"Excuse me, I'm sorry." The leader said to Bonnie.

"I'm sorry." She said and when he left she looked at him while she got a vision of what he really was and decided to follow him.

John was finishing preparing the device when Damon arrived at the office.

"Do you have any idea what you've done?" Damon asked him really mad.

"Yeah, as a matter of fact I do." John said and when Damon was ready to attack him, John activated the device. Damon fell in the floor grabbing his head screaming.

"AHHHHHHHH!" Damon screamed with pains.

"I'm doing this for you girls." John murmured and went to prepare something while Damon continued screaming with pains on his brain. He had something that looked like it was a syringe.

At the Square, Stefan fell on the floor grabbing his head.

"Stefan, what's going on? What's happening?" Elena asked him panic.

"My head!" Stefan said in pain.

"What?" Elena asked once again in panic.

"My head!" Stefan said again and the girls tried to help him.

"What the hell is going on, Lena?" Eva asked her sister in panic too.

Damon was on the floor, still holding his head and screaming with pains. John was preparing a syringe with vervain to give him.

Anna and Jeremy were still in the restrooms, of the Mystic Grill when suddenly Anna grabbed her head and began to scream in pain.

"Anna what's wrong? Anna!" Jeremy asked her worried.

"Please, make it stop!" Anna pleaded with her hands on her head.

With the device working, a lot of vampires were feeling the pains on their heads. Stefan was holding his head in the Town's Square, Damon was holding his head at Grayson Gilbert's office, Anna was in Jeremy's arms screaming in the restroom of the Grill and the tomb vampires' leader fell and one of the deputies injected him vervain while John did the same to Damon.

Tyler was driving when he suddenly heard the device. That was strange because Tyler was human not supernatural.

"What the hell is that?" Tyler asked them hearing that sound.

"What's the matter?" Caroline asked worried.

"That noise!" Tyler said once again.

"Wait, what noise?" Matt asked him because he couldn't hear anything. Tyler suddenly let go the wheel and grabbed his head feeling the pains of the device which provoked him to start to scream.

"Tyler! Tyler!" Caroline called him worried when he lost the control of the car.

"Dude, hey! Caroline, the wheel!" Matt ordered worried to his girlfriend. When she tried to grab the wheel, Tyler screamed once again in pain. Caroline scared let go the wheel and the car crashed into a wall.

Stefan was still on the floor, holding his head in pain. Eva and Elena were with him, one was on his left side and the other on his right side. They were worried about him. A deputy ran towards him when he saw Stefan on the floor but Alaric ran and talked to him to stop the deputy from taking Stefan away.

"Hey, I got this one. There's one over there. Take this, go! Go! Go!" Alaric said and passed a stake to the deputy which nodded and leaving. Alaric went to help Stefan to get up and they went towards the stairs.

"I don't know what happened, he just dropped." Elena explained to Alaric.

"Yeah, he's not the only one. The cops have gotten everyone who's gone down, injecting them with vervain." Alaric explained to the girls.

"What?" Elena asked worried.

"Shit!" Eva said looking at them and then to Stefan.

"They're rounding up the vampires." Elena concluded and the others agreed.

"Damon is in danger, guys. I bet with you that he went look for John." Eva informed them worried about Damon.

Carol Lockwood was right beside her husband because he's on the floor. The Mayor was grabbing his head with pains because of the device.

"Please help him, he just went down." Carol said worried about him to the deputies that came to collect the vampires. Then one of the deputies injected vervain on the Mayor's system.

Anna and Jeremy were still in the restrooms of the Grill. Anna was suffering the pains of the device too.

"AHHHHH! My head!" She yelled in pain and one of the deputies entered on the restrooms looking for vampires.

"I got one." The deputy said into the radio. Then one injected her with vervain and another one held Jeremy.

"Hey, what are you doing? What are you doing? Hey, leave her alone!" Jeremy said to them while one deputy took Anna and the other stayed with him to stop him to go after the deputy and Anna. "Leave her alone! Anna!" He yelled at them.

When the device stopped, John took everything back and went to the basement check everything. He had put Damon on the floor, which he was unconscious because of the vervain that was injected on his system. The deputies were bringing more vampires into the basement. The plan now was kill them all.

"The device is done; the only thing keeping them down is vervain. We don't have much time, let's finish this." John said to the deputies. Damon was already waking up when one of the deputies was pouring gasoline everywhere. John was prepared to leave when Anna grabbed his leg. She was on the floor looking up at him. "Anna." John said and Damon turned his head, looked at them and listened what John was saying. "You can head up; I'll take it from here." John instructed to the deputy. When the man left, Anna tried to get up but she couldn't. Damon continued watching them and thinking about a plan to escape from there. John took a stake from behind his back and looked at her with hate. He didn't want his nephew around vampires.

"Please…no!" Anna pleaded to him but John staked her while Damon watched. After Anna's death, John started to pour more gasoline. He went up the stairs and poured another trail of gasoline. When he was out of the basement, he lighted a match and threw it on the gasoline. The fire starts and some of the vampires began to burn without them notice. Damon looked at them. He needed to escape from there.

At the Square, Stefan was better and he was talking with Elena and Eva.

"Are you okay?" Elena asked worried.

"It was like needles were piercing my skull and it just stopped." Stefan explained to the girls what he had felt.

"I saw at least 5 vampires go down. They're taking them to your family's old building, girls." Alaric informed them after coming back.

"It's the Gilbert's device. It has to be." Stefan said to them.

"But how did he get it to work? Bonnie un spelled it." Elena stated to them.

"Maybe she didn't." Alaric suggested to them.

"She did, we saw her do it!" Elena said to defend Bonnie.

"Lena, she hates Damon and Stefan, because they are vampires. Think about it." Eva said to her sister because she was really thinking in that possibility.

"No, no, no they are right. Think about it. We asked Bonnie to deactivate a device that could protect people against vampires." Stefan started to explain.

"So we could protect you." Elena said because she thought Bonnie would never betray her and Eva.

"And Damon. Vampires." Stefan concluded his thoughts. "Where is Damon?" He asked looking around for his brother.

"I don't know. I haven't seen him since this started." Alaric said to them.

"I think he went to talk with Uncle John." Eva said to her sister and Stefan.

"Can you get our brother, take him home?" Elena asked to Alaric.

"Of course." Alaric agreed and left them.

"Let's go." Eva said to them. She was really worried about Damon.

At the police station, the Sheriff was still handcuffed to the radiator when Carol Lockwood came in.

"Liz, are you okay?" Carol asked her worried.

"There's a key on my…" The Sheriff started.

"What's going on?!" Carol interrupted the Sheriff.

"There's a key in my belt, I need you to get it." The Sheriff said once again.

"I've been looking everywhere for you, something happened to Richard. They took him." Carol explained to the Sheriff while took the key.

"Who took him?" The Sheriff asked her.

"Your deputies. I don't understand, he's not a vampire!" Carol said not understanding anything that what was happening.

"Let's go!" The Sheriff said after opening the handcuffs and getting up.

The basement was already on fire. Damon trying to sit up, started to look around him and saw that the Mayor was in the basement.

"Mayor. Is that you?" Damon asked surprised to him there.

"What are you doing here?" The Mayor asked when recognized Damon.

"I'm a vampire. What's your excuse?" Damon asked him and scared the Mayor started backing off. "No, really. The vervain didn't affect you, you're not a vampire, what the hell are you?" Damon asked once again. The Mayor continued backing away from the raven vampire until he bumped into the vampire's tomb leader.

"Mayor Lockwood!" The leader said and snapped Mayor Lockwood's neck killing him.

Matt and Caroline were out of the car when an ambulance arrived to help Tyler because he was on the ground, unconscious.

"Hey, are you okay?" Matt asked her worried.

"I'm fine, I'm fine." Caroline said to him but still worried about her friend.

"No, they need to check you out." Matt said to her still worried.

"No, I'm fine, I'm fine. They're helping Tyler." Caroline said to him and they saw the paramedics were examining Tyler. One of them opened one of Tyler's eyes, when it flashed amber-gold before going back to brown.

"What the hell?!" The paramedic asked freaked out.

"What's wrong?" Matt asked starting to get worried with his friend.

"His eyes!" The paramedic said when suddenly Tyler woke up.

"What happened?" Tyler asked a little confused with what had happened.

"Dude, don't scare me like that!" Matt said to him reviled and when he turned his head, he saw Caroline on the ground unconscious. "Caroline!" He shouted and ran to her worried. "Guys, over here! Caroline, wake up!"

The girls and Stefan were walking around when suddenly Stefan used his vampire hearing and heard the fire at Grayson's office.

"Wait, wait, wait, I can hear them. The building is on fire." Stefan said to them.

"What?" Elena asked worried.

"The building's on fire!" Stefan said once again and they went into that direction.

"Which building, Stefan?" Eva asked worried too.

The building was still on fire and Damon tried to gets up but a beam fell down in front of him that made impossible for him to escape.

Stefan went with the girls towards John, to talk with him about the device and if he knew where Damon was.

"Where is Damon?" Eva asked directly at him.

"With the rest of them, where he should be. It's over for Damon." John said directly to Eva.

"You're crazy!" Elena said because Eva was shocked by her uncle's attitude.

"Why? Because I'm doing what should have been done a hundred and forty five years ago? This is the right thing, girls." John stated to them. "Go ahead, you won't make it out. It'll save me the trouble of killing you myself." John said to Stefan when he saw that the younger vampire was looking at the building.

"You know the building well, is there another way in?" Stefan asked looking at the girls.

"Utility door, there's one around the side." Elena said to Stefan. He went towards that part of the building and the girls prepared to follow him when John grabbed Eva's arm.

"You take one more step and I'll alert those deputies that they missed a vampire." John said to the girls.

"We ask you not to." Elena said for her and Eva.

"That doesn't mean anything to me." John said to Elena looking into her eyes.

"As our father, it should." Eva said to him.

"You know." John said to the girls after a long pause.

"We weren't sure, now we are." Elena said finally, looked at Eva and they went towards to the building to try to save Damon somehow.

Stefan ran towards the emergency door to try to get in to save his brother when Bonnie arrived to stop him.

"Hey, you can't go in there!" Bonnie shouted at Stefan when he opened the door to get inside. "The fire will take you out." She said again.

"He's my brother, Bonnie!" Stefan said and went inside but when he tried to open the basement's door, the doorknob was too hot. When the twins arrived Bonnie was looking at the building.

"Stefan!" Elena said trying to go inside with Eva right behind her.

"Elena, Eva, you can't go in there!" Bonnie said to the girls.

"Bonnie, what are you doing?" Eva asked Bonnie.

"I'm sorry I lied to you both." Bonnie said grabbing both girls' arms. Closed her eyes and began to recite a spell. "Ex spiritum intacullum, in terrum incendium, fes matos salvis adisdum!" Bonnie said in latin.

"Bonnie, I've got to get in there!" Eva said with a urgent voice while Bonnie was still reciting a spell.

In the building, Stefan could finally open the door but the fire was still too large and suddenly, the flames diminish, thanks to Bonnie's spell. Stefan went into the basement and found Damon.

"Damon! Come on, hurry!" Stefan said picking up his brother and used his vampire speed to get out of the basement.

At the entry of the building, Bonnie finished her spell and looked at Elena and Eva.

"Bonnie… Bonnie, what is it? Are they gonna be okay?" Elena asked her friend.

"Please, Bonnie, tell me." Eva pleaded with her when Stefan and Damon came out of the building and the girls ran to them.

"Oh my god!" Elena said helping Stefan while Eva helped Damon.

"Are you okay, Damon?" Eva asked him worried.

At the Mystic Grill, Elena and Eva were talking alone when Stefan joined them.

"The fire is out. The story is the building's old wiring is what caused it." Elena explained to her boyfriend.

"Did you see where Damon went?" He asked them.

"No, he just kind of disappeared." Eva said to him still worried about Damon.

"Figures." Stefan said and Elena embraced him.

"I'm so glad you're okay." Elena said to him smiling.

"I try so hard… to hate him. I guess it's just pointless." Stefan said to the girls.

"You care about him, so do I and Eva. But I love you Stefan, and I know that you are worried about Damon and Eva." Elena explained to him.

"I just… you know, I know my brother." Stefan started.

"But I love you, Stefan." Elena stated to him.

"And I know that your brother is not after Elena. He is after something that he only knows and needs to figure out." Eva supplied.

"I know the trouble he can cause." Stefan said not listening Eva's words and Elena took Stefan's face in her hands.

"I love you Stefan, you! And my sister loves Damon, you know that and she knows how Damon is and how he acts." Eva said defending her sister's feelings and herself too and then kissed him "You have nothing to worry about, okay?" Elena said kissing him again. Stefan finally nodded.

"Jenna called, Jeremy's home, we are just gonna run over to the school to pick up our dresses, ours clothes and the rest of our stuff and then we'll check on him." Eva said to him and Elena nodded agreeing with her sister. Elena kissed Stefan once again and both girls left to school.

Jeremy was sat on his bed and he was looking at the flask, got up and put it in his drawer and when he turned around, Damon was there.

"What are you doing here?" Jeremy asked him.

"Anna's dead." Damon told him.

"I figured that once they took her away." Jeremy said to him knowing that would happen if she was caught.

"I know you cared about her." Damon started to say to him.

"Yeah, I did." Jeremy said admitting to Damon.

"I saw her being killed. I was watching and all I could think about was… I wanted to help her, but I couldn't." Damon explained to Jeremy.

"Why are you telling me all this?" Jeremy asked him surprised.

"I took away your suffering once before. I can do it again, but it's your choice." The black haired vampire said to him.

"Look, I know you think you took it away, but it's still there. Even if I can't remember why. I still feel empty, and alone, and making me forget won't fix it. It won't fix what's really wrong." Jeremy finally said to him.

"What I did to Vicki was wrong. I'm sorry for my part." Damon said showing some emotions.

"Anna said that vampires don't have to feel pain; that they could turn it off, if they shut out their humanity." Jeremy said to Damon hoping he could confirm that.

"It's very true." Damon confirmed that to him.

"Is it easier that way?" Jeremy asked him interested.

"Is what easier?" Damon asked him not understanding his question.

"Life." The young boy asked.

"Life sucks either way, Jeremy. But, at least if you're a vampire, you don't have to feel bad about it if you don't want to." Damon said to him.

"Is that what you did?" Jeremy asked him.

"I did it for a… I did it for a very long time and life was a lot easier." Damon said looking at him and then finally left the boy alone to his thoughts.

Matt was sitting alone in the hallway waiting for news when Tyler joined him.

"Hey man. I'm so sorry. Look, I don't even know what happened." Tyler apologized to Matt still confused with what had happened.

"It's okay man. She'll be alright." Matt said to him and Tyler sat down with him when the Sheriff Forbes arrived. Matt got up hoping for good news. "What's happening? Is she alright?" Matt asked her worried.

"There was some internal bleeding; they're taking her into surgery." The Sheriff said to Matt to calm him down.

"What else did they say? Is she gonna be okay?" Matt fired another question.

"They're gonna do everything they can." The Sheriff said and Matt sat down once again and turned to Tyler. "Tyler, have you talked to your mom?" She asked him.

"I left her a message telling her I was here." Tyler said to the Sheriff.

"You need to call her." She said looking up sadly at him.

"What is it?" Tyler asked worried.

"It's your dad." The Sheriff said.

Jeremy was in the bathroom, looking in the mirror. He didn't know what to do if he would drink the blood from the flask that was in his hand or not. Finally deciding he opened it and drank the blood. Then he found Elena's pain pills from her car accident and poured them on the counter. He picked one up, prepared to take it.

When Stefan got outside, he saw Bonnie arriving.

"Oh, hey." He said to her.

"Hey." She said a little worried.

"You… you just missed Elena and Eva." Stefan said to them.

"I was looking for you actually." Bonnie said to Stefan.

"Oh." Stefan said not knowing what to say.

"Elena and Eva are my best friends, and because Elena loves you and Eva loves Damon, I couldn't let you or Damon die in that fire." Bonnie explained to him.

"I'm very grateful Bonnie, I hope you know that." Stefan said to her with a grateful look.

"I do... but I hope you know that things have to change. Damon has to change." Bonnie stated to Stefan.

"We both want the same thing." Stefan said to her with hope.

"We both want to protect the people we care about. The difference is, for you, Damon is one of them. You saw what I was able to do tonight. I know who I am now, and if Damon spills so much as one drop of innocent blood, I'll take him down. Even if I have to take you with him." Bonnie said with a hard voice.

"Let's hope it doesn't come to that." Stefan said to her.

"Let's hope it doesn't." Bonnie agreed with him.

Damon went outside of the house when Elena and Eva arrived, they were holding their dress.

"What are you doing here?" Eva asked him surprised to see him there.

"Failed and feeble attempt at doing the right thing." Damon said to her ignoring Elena and only concentrated on Eva.

"Which was…?" Eva asked him.

"It's not important. Let me take this for you." Damon said and took the dress and her bag and set it down on a couch on the porch where Elena was waiting for Eva.

"Thank you." Eva thanked him.

"You know, I came to this town wanting to destroy it. Tonight, I found myself wanting to protect it. How does that happen? I'm not a hero, Eva. I don't do good actions. It's not in me." Damon started to say to him.

"Maybe it is." Eva said to him smiling.

"Nah, it's reserved for my brother, for Elena and you… and Bonnie... who, even though she has every reason to hate me, still helped Stefan save me." Damon said exposing a little of his feelings.

"Why do you sound so surprised?" Eva asked him surprised by that.

"Because she did it for you. Which means that somewhere along the way, you decided that I was worth saving. And I wanted to thank you for that." Damon said looking into her brown eyes.

"You're welcome." Eva said smiling and he leaned in kissing her on the cheek and they looked at each other. He looked once again at her and hesitated a little but then kissed her on the mouth. As they continued to kiss they didn't see Elena smirking at them but then the door opened. It was Jenna and Eva turned to her aunt while Damon tried to hide himself. "Hi..." Eva said to her aunt.

"Hi, aunt Jenna." Elena said to Jenna.

"It's late, you should probably come inside." Jenna said to her nieces. Elena picked her things and went inside while Eva turned to pick her things and looked at Damon. When she was inside, Jenna turned to her.

"What are you doing?" Jenna asked Eva.

"I don't want to talk about it." Eva said to her aunt.

"Let her be, Jenna." Elena said to Jenna.

Damon, was still outside, looking at the house, touched his lips and left. They had kissed so many times, but this time was different.

Jeremy was still in the bathroom where he had taken all the pills, and then he went into his bedroom, laid on the bed and passed out.

John was in the kitchen, he went to open the fridge and when he closed it, Elena and Eva were there.

"You scared me." John said to the girls.

"Sorry." Elena said sarcastically.

"You know... I first met Isobel when I was a teenager. I fell in love with her instantly; although I'm pretty sure she never loved me. She was special. A part of why I hate the vampires so much is because of what she became, how it ruined her. And I never would have sent her to Damon if I had known she wanted to turn." John explained to them and Eva looked at him while she put the dishes away with Elena's help. "It's my fault. I'm telling you this because I hoped maybe you'd understand." John said to them.

"Thank you." Eva said smirking.

"Can I help?" John asked while Elena looked at his ring.

"Sure." Elena said and then with a knife she cut John's fingers where the Gilbert ring was and Eva was behind in a second pushing him into the sink. John screamed in pain and Eva and Elena's eyes turned red and the veins under their eyes swell and fangs started to emerge.

"Katherine?! Danielle?!" He asked them surprised.

"Hello, John." Katherine said.

"Goodbye, John." Danielle said while Katherine stabbed him.

"Now go do the other part of the plan. Go see Damon." Katherine said to her sister smirking watching her sister ran with her vampire speed.

Damon was at his house, drinking some bourbon when he felt a presence. It was Eva, which was on the doorway, watching him.

"What are you doing here?" Damon asked surprised.

"Finishing what we have started." Eva said and Damon used his vampire speed. When Damon, was right in front of her, he kissed her passionately. Then he picked her up and they into his bedroom where clothes started to get ripped from their bodies and in one second they were on his bed making love. Damon felt that this was different from when he made love with Danielle. After a while, he was fast asleep and Eva got up from the bed and got dressed. When she was leaving, she kissed him on the cheek. "Just like the old times, Damon." She smirked and let her in her eyes appear the veins and red eyes of a vampire. It was Danielle. Then she left and went to meet her sister.

Eva opened the front door and Elena got inside just right behind her sister. Elena was on the phone with Stefan.

"I looked everywhere. Yeah, someone definitely took my stuff and Eva's stuff too. I'm just gonna check on Jeremy before we go to the hospital. Can you meet me there? Okay, I love you Stefan." Elena said into the phone. Eva and Elena went to the stairs while Elena called Jeremy. "Jeremy?! Are you up?" She called him when they hear a noise coming from the kitchen.

"What the hell is that noise?" Eva asked and they both went towards the kitchen.
