30 chapters! Can't believe I came this far! I wish my English was as good as it is today (kinda haha) when I started this story, but it was fun anyway, wasn't it? This is kinda like chapter 19, a bit odd as it is like watching the video clip, but with words, but at the same time I didn't want it to look like a screenplay, although it crossed my mind to try it like that. I used Lea's "I run to you" and it'd be good to hear it as you read the chapter! Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy it, last chapter barely had reviews and I take it as a lack of interest in this story, maybe? Conjectures… I'll try to post at least one chapter per month. That is, if you guys are interested. It was a good journey anyway!
Chapter 30:
Run to you
Two knocks on her dressing room's door and she is brought back from her reveries. The stage assistant tells her the director is requiring her presence. She nods her head and the middle-aged woman leaves her. She looks at her reflection one more time, takes a deep breath and goes to the stage.
Backlighted by the spotlight, Jesse is waiting for her in the center of the stage, he was talking to her co-star.
"Hey. Good, you're here. Let's get it started."
And then they start rehearsing. She knows her lines, her moves, she knows everything she is supposed to do, but today she seems to be in another world. She is distracted and Jesse notices it.
"Rachel what's going on?"
"Nothing, let's continue."
"You're seem off."
"No… it's…"
"Opening night is a week away. That's why I'm here with you two. This is a very important sequence."
"I know, I know. I'll focus. I promise."
"Okay. From the start."
She manages finishing the rehearsal without mistakes, but there was no passion in her performance. She was like a robot.
Hours later, with her clothes still on, she is under the shower water cascade, crying. She takes the wedding ring off her finger and leans her chin on her knees. Embracing her legs. Completely vulnerable and broken.
Sounds of flashes.
Rushed voices.
A room full of questions.
"Who was that mysterious blonde?"
She opens her mouth to answer, but she is speechless. Daydreaming, her mind takes her back to when everything started.
Blonde hair, imposing pose and a gorgeous face. She walks on air as she parades through the hallway. Passing by the small brunette that is cowered, leaning on her own locker, she looks into those brown eyes, intensely. Distracted by that ethereal apparition, the brunette doesn't see what was coming.
"Watch out loser!"
A boy throws a red slush on her face.
Slow-motion.
Young people celebrating. A big award. They are dancing on top of a piano. The blonde holds her up, but right after a tall guy takes the brunette in his arms and they whirl around the room. Confetti everywhere. The blonde looks at the scene with longing in her eyes.
A bathroom.
She is putting on lipstick. The blonde comes in with a big smile on her face.
"So, do you promise to keep in touch?"
"Of course, I do."
The big city. Two young adults having coffee.
"It's so liberating to be here. Like I can finally be myself." The blonde comments.
"I know what you mean." The brunette says in contentment.
"Actually, I think we should start over. To symbolize this moment." She stands up and goes toward the door.
"What?" The brunette giggles in amusement as the blonde disappear outside.
After a moment, she enters in the coffee shop once again.
"Hi. Forgive my intrusion, but do you always come here?"
"You're lucky you have such a pretty face, you're awful at this."
"You're talking to me, aren't you?"
"Yes, I am indeed."
"My name is Lucy."
She offers her hand to the other woman.
"Rachel."
Rachel shakes her hand.
"Do you mind if I sit, Rachel?"
"Not all, Lucy. So, tell me more about you, what are your plans to the future?"
"Me? I'm kinda trying to be an actress, you know. But I don't know if I have talent." She shrugs, modest and Rachel smiles affectionately. "What about you?"
"You're looking at a future Broadway star."
"Oh really, I have this high school friend that loves everything that is Broadway related."
"She seems to be a very tasteful girl."
"Very modest too." Quinn teases and they look at each other with affection.
Music.
The city sky's feeling dark tonight
We're back to back with our heads down
Rachel has her head pressed against the window glass. Outside, the rain is crashing down.
A flashback comes to her mind.
They are fighting. Gestures, tears, sorrow, and resentment.
Just look at me, give me more tonight
Just give me more of your love now
Let's set fire to the lonely night
You're beautiful when you look at me
She is all wet. The rain is falling, but she doesn't care. She runs.
She knocks on the door. Quinn opens it. Then she sings.
Let's give love another life
Cause you'll be safe in these arms of mine
Just call my name on the edge of the night
And I'll run to you, I'll run to you
Still singing, she turns around and starts walking away as Quinn watches her leaving.
Times goes forward.
Happy laughs.
White sheets.
Heavy breaths.
A passionate hand wandering over tanned skin. Exploring every curve on Rachel's body.
I would run to you, if you want me to
Just give me some kind of reason
I'll take the pain, take it all away
Just give it some kind of meaning
Happy moments. A walk on the beach. A kiss shared in the middle of the kitchen while they prepare a meal.
Let's let go, let it be the start
You know I'm feeling the same thing
Let's let go of our broken hearts
Cause you'll be safe in these arms of mine
Just call my name on the edge of the night
And I'll run to you, I'll run to you
She is back to the rainy day. As she walks away from Quinn, she doesn't see when the blonde starts running towards her.
Quinn turns her around and kisses her, passionately. The rain falling on them.
A lap dance.
Quinn is sitting. Her eyes focused on Rachel. Watching the brunette's every move. Rachel takes her shirt off, showing off her black lace bra as she dances sensuously to Quinn. The blonde holds Rachel by the waist and standing up, she takes the singer to the bed.
They kiss passionately.
Hands entwined over Rachel's head.
Even if it's gonna break me, love
Gonna make my way to you
Anyway it's gonna take me, love
The rain kiss. But now, it's more intense.
More passionate as Quinn lifts Rachel up.
I run to you
I run to you
Run, run
Pillow fight.
Rachel laughs carefree, straddling Quinn as they lay on the bed.
A hug full of emotion.
Cause you'll be safe in these arms of mine
Just call my name on the edge of the night
She is playing the piano, singing with her heart. Quinn is watching her, entranced. The house is spacious and illuminated by the afternoon sun. The curtains flutter in the wind, making the light dance in the room full of big glass windows.
And I'll run to you
I'll run to you
Even if it's gonna break me, love
I run to you
"So?" She asks when she finishes the song.
"That was beautiful." Quinn answers full of emotion.
"Yeah?" Looking at the blonde, she inquires with a bright smile spreading on her face.
Quinn cups the singer's face and kisses Rachel tenderly on the lips. When she pulls away, she leans her forehead on Rachel's.
Now, there's only the sound of the sea that is coming from the outside.
The song:
Run to you (by Lea Michele)
