'You seem happy,' said Nikki uncertainly as Taylor walked, grinning to herself in the corridors.
Taylor stopped, not looking at her mother yet not daring to let her smile falter, 'yup.'
'What's got you so happy?'
'I realised something,' replied Taylor simply.

Nikki observed her daughter for a minute, 'what?'

Taylor curled her lip, her eyes not blinking as she took a step backwards so that she was in front of Nikki. She raised her head looked into her mothers eyes in which she could just make out her own, 'I realised that I don't need your bullshit anymore.'

'Taylor,' growled Nikki, her expression changing at once, 'don't you dare talk to me like that, I am your mother.'
'Yeah? Well not anymore. You've completely blanked me since you and Tom split up and you've refused to even look at me since he died.'
Nikki made a movement as if to grip Taylor's shoulder but thought better of it. Taylor was glad of this; she didn't need her mother's sympathy.

'I know it's been hard for us,' said Nikki in a shaky voice, 'with Tom and everything… and then Josh moving away… but you're all I have left.'
'Then why haven't you spoken to me,' demanded Taylor harshly though her voice did tremble ever so slightly.

Nikki's eyes bored into her daughter's. Now that Taylor was looking at her mother in the eye, she daren't look away. She hoped that, just by looking into her eyes, that her mother would be able to see how pissed off she was.

'Fine,' Nikki said quietly, looking down at the floor, 'if that's how you feel.'
'Yep, it is,' snarled Taylor defiantly.
Nikki nodded before leaving her daughter.

Taylor could have sworn that she'd heard a faint sniff from behind her though she acted like she hadn't heard. She was so angry with her mother at the moment.

Taylor was actually quite proud of herself, voicing her fury aloud after having to bottle it up for so long.

Her head held a little higher, Taylor proceeded to her first lesson: History. Audrey was in a very good mood and, for some strange reason, this annoyed Taylor. She tried to ignore the angry feeling she had.

Why did she feel like that?

Perhaps it was because she hadn't voiced ALL of her irritation.

Maybe some of her emotions had been conveyed via her face as Audrey soon frowned at her and asked in a horribly high-pitched tone, 'Taylor Boston, are you quite alright.'
'Don't call me that,' spat Taylor in disgust, 'I'm… I'm Taylor Smith.'

It was much easier going back to her original surname again especially as she wasn't on great speaking terms with her mother.

Audrey inhaled deeply, 'okay, if you want.'

Taylor nodded.

Then, to aggravate Taylor further, Audrey persisted, 'well if you ever need to talk-'

'Then I won't come to you.'

Audrey pursed her lips as if she disapproved of Taylor's behaviour.

Taylor quickly turned her head to the side a bit so that she was no longer looking at Audrey. She didn't need pity off a stupid old woman like her.

Once out of Audrey's tedious presence, Taylor went to Science. She could feel people whispering about her and, sure enough, Dynasty's voice rang out from behind her, 'Taylor? Is it true you had an affair with Tom?'

Taylor froze. Whatever she'd expected, it hadn't been this, 'no. Ugh, he was with my mother.'

Rhiannon shrugged, 'you do seem like a slag.'
Taylor bristled angrily, 'what, just because I'm thin?'

'Ooh,' said Barry and Dynasty together.

Taylor did not look at Barry.

Rhiannon went as brighter shade of red as her hair, 'I heard you sleep with a different guy every night.'
'Who off, Barry?' Snorted Taylor.

Barry inhaled slowly behind Taylor as if willing himself not to speak or interrupt.

'Just shut up okay?' Exclaimed Taylor to the class at large, 'do you actually think I don't notice you talking behind my back? If you have something to say to me the least you can do is say it to my face.'

'Okay,' said Dynasty at once, 'are you a slag?' Kevin, Barry and Rhiannon sniggered.

Taylor turned around, ready to deny the accusation… then she saw barry's face. He was grinning dominantly like he always did.
Taylor couldn't help it, she said, 'yeah. I am a slag. Problem?'
