Jay Pritchett 'Modern Family' – There's all kinds of milestones in life. The kind you expect to live through - first kiss, birthdays, graduations, if you're lucky, a wedding or two, or even a new addition to the family. Then there's the kind you never dreamed you'd get to live through again. And that's the best kind of all.

It was a beautiful day for a party on the grounds of the Presidio, and Starfleet had outdone themselves to the 'Welcome Home Voyager' family picnic.

They had been back in the Alpha Quadrant for less than a week, and once they'd passed through Medical's mandatory health check-up, the powers that be had organized a press-free gathering, in the one environment they missed the most.

The fresh air.

Kathryn hovered under the shade of a large tree, the name escaped her for the moment, a glass of champagne in one hand, Chakotay standing rightfully by her side.

'You know, I almost expected never to live to see this day,' she said wistfully, letting her eyes fall in a watchful gaze over the children playing.

'Neither did I,' Chakotay admitted. 'There were quite a few times I thought we were all done for, but look at us now.'

'Home,' Kathryn sighed.

'Yeah.'

'It's one milestone I'm glad we've both lived to see,' Kathryn turned to look at her former First Officer.

'Kathryn?'

'It reminds me that we've waited long enough,' her empty hand reached for his, grasping it tightly.

'That we certainly have.'

'Then why wait any longer for this particular milestone?'

'Why indeed?'

They didn't break from their kiss until they heard their crew cheering for them, unsurprisingly led by Tom Paris, even though his newborn daughter was nestled in his arms.

'This is the best kind of milestone ever,' Chakotay smiled.

'The one I thought we'd never live to see,' her eyes never left his.
