Chapter 39: Filler Exams, With Not Too Good News

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN.

Sorry for changing back and forth from human names to nation names. :) They're one in the same, so please don't get confused.

...

As November slowly started bit by bit, exams days were closing in as well. Because of that, all club activities should be halted during exams week. Of course, including the Host Club.

Kiku exited the library with some books on his possession. He walked down the hallway, with few squeals from the female students. They clearly recognized him from the Host Club. He tried to stay as normal as possible.

It was not his age to study high school material, but it was also not his age to fail a class. Lots of things happened during his time of existence. He would need to catch up with the current era.

"Such a lot of materials... I really need to keep up." Kiku mumbled as he brought the books to the classroom.

Just when he was reading a book, the obnoxious twins came in. "Kiku!" They shout in unison.

The called person turned his head towards the voices who were calling his name. "Hikaru-kun? Kaoru-kun?"

"Yahoo~!" Hikaru gave a friendly wave.

"What now? You're studying too?" Kaoru gave a disappointed face.

"Um, I think this is a normal action when exams are nearing though..."

"Well, not for us!" Hikaru put one of his arms around Kaoru's shoulders. The latter laughed and did the same thing.

Approximately, Haruhi came inside the class as well. "Ah, you all are here."

"'Sup, Haruhi?" The twins spoke together.

She walked towards them as she sighed. "You twins are not studying, right?"

"You know, we're just..." Hikaru paused before Kaoru continued the sentence. "...not really motivated."

Haruhi didn't even retort. She looked at Kiku who simply put his nervous laugh. "Kiku, do you want to study together with me in the library? It's better to have a companion, right?"

Kiku saw Haruhi as the only normal person in the Host Club. "Ah, won't it bother you?"

"No, not at all." She smiled. Her smile was soothing somehow. "I mean, it's useless to ask one of the club members since they're just..."

Haruhi paused. Kiku nodded a bit, signaling that he got the message. He soon packed up his books and then stood up. "Hikaru-kun, Kaoru-kun, I'll be going now."

"H-hey! We're coming too!"

...

As the exams were nearing, Kiku was thinking about the materials and also... who he would invite for the next Guest Host Event. It would be impossible to ask for someone to come during this time of year since club activities were halted. Aside from the exams, Kiku's head was filled with imaginations as to what he should do next.

...

...

Kiku went back home from the tiring study session. He just sighed since the session ended not quite like he pictured it to be, though it did have some effects on his study. In a good way.

He walked down through the hallway after he took off his shoes. He was greeted by the Prime Minister, who simply waved at him and smiled. "Hey, welcome home, Japan."

"Ah, Prime Minister. I thought you were on a meeting..." Kiku put on a confused face.

"Yes, but it finished faster than I expected so I decided to come back early."

"Then, I need to prepare for dinner now. Please excuse me."

Kiku was about to go straight to the kitchen, but he stopped him. "No, no, Japan. You can do it later."

"Eh? Um, but..."

"I have to talk to you for a moment."

Kiku totally had no idea, but what he knew, was that Prime Minister's face did not show any signs of joking. He was serious. There was something to talk about and it had to be important. Seeing this expression, Kiku soon stopped his actions. "I see."

"Go to your room and go change. I'd like to talk about this in political manners."

"Right away, sir."

...

Obeying his orders, Japan changed to his formal uniform, not his usual military uniform. He went straight to the office where the Prime Minister awaited on his chair. "Here I am, sir."

The Prime Minister still had his serious face. Japan was actually kind of nervous, but he tried to calm himself by taking few deep breaths before entering the office.

"Alright, so uh... Here." Prime Minister handed over an envelope towards Japan. He opened it with a confused face and then read the contents of the letter inside it. His expression changed as he read the paragraphs one by one.

By the end of the letter, Japan had such an uneasy face. "Sir, this is..."

"Yeah. The council wishes for you to come back and resume your duty. I'm sorry. I wasn't able to convince them about my reason for sending you to human environment."

"So, you didn't tell the council about the school?"

"No. I decided that myself. I want you to experience more of human society so we can create a better country. However..."

"...The council sees that as irrelevant."

The Prime Minister just nodded his head slowly. Japan just looked at the letter with a troubled face. "...But if this is what they have decided, then I have no choice but to answer that."

"Well, there's something that I haven't told you yet though."

He turned his face towards the Prime Minister. "What is it, sir?"

"Be grateful. After a long argument, they allowed you to stay longer in Ouran High."

Japan became confused. He was actually happy to hear that, but his emotion was so conflicted. "Um, what do you mean...?"

"You have until April. Until the beginning of a new school year. The council made a decision to let you go to school until April. However, after that you have to return to your usual duties."

"R-really?" Japan looked kind of happy.

"Yeah. We're still in November right now, so enjoy the last five months!"

Japan nodded. "Will do, sir!"

...

After the meeting with the Prime Minister, Japan returned to his room, feeling sort of relieved. However, he also felt kind of sad to leave the school. At least he still had some time left, but thinking about it just made him sad. He also felt conflicted whether to say this to the other Host Club members or not. He knew that they would throw an exaggerating farewell party for him.

As he kept on thinking about the possibilities, he fell into deep sleep.

...

...

Days gone by as the exams were slowly nearing. Kiku was thinking of telling his situation to the Host Club members, but he knew that when the word reached Tamaki, they would throw him an exaggerating farewell party. Also, he still had five months to enjoy before leaving the school so he was not really worried or anything.

During lunch break, Kiku were reading in the library. Few minutes later, someone came approaching him. "Kiku."

Kiku turned his face towards the voice who was calling for him. It was Kyouya. "Ah, Kyouya-san. What is the matter?"

"About the Guest Host Event, since the exams will take most of November, the next Guest Host Event will have to start in December."

"Is that so?"

"Yeah. I hope you'll get us another unique guest again."

Despite Kyouya's normal sentence, somehow Kiku was able to sense an ominous feeling inside it. Kyouya was smiling slightly mischievously.

"A-alright... I'll do my best..."

It would seem as if Kyouya was saying if Kiku did not do his best, then his identity would be in danger...

However, hearing about "December", there was only one person that came into Kiku's mind and he did not think that he made the wrong choice. There were more than enough time to tell them about his current situation. Also, the only one who knew about his identity as a Nation was just Kyouya. Despite his personality, Kiku knew that he could trust him at least.

All that's left was to think about the event and what he would do after that...

Or so that should have been.
