So...long time no see, huh? I apologize for being away for so long. There's really no excuse for not updating for so long. Life has just been life, haha. But I'm back! I can't promise consistent updates but I will be writing more. I also have an account on AO3 and will be posting on there also. I'm not sure if I'll cross post or if I'll just keep my Nothing is Harder universe strictly on here, I guess we'll see. That being said let's get this show on the road!
Paul leaned up against a rough tree and looked out across to the Cullen home. He couldn't hear much from the distance he was at and his eyes were darting from window to window looking for his targets.
He crossed his arms tighter over his chest and let out a soft growl when he caught sight of Jacob in one of the second floor windows. He couldn't wait to see him groveling down at his feet. He couldn't wait to see all of them groveling for him, all of those disgusting traitors begging and pleading at his feet.
He took a deep breath and shook his head, his master wouldn't be too happy if he let his anger get the best of him. He had a mission. Find the half breed wolf and the bloodsucker that's carrying her spawn. Observe and report.
He pushed himself to attention and focused on the two women making their way down the stairs. The half breed had her hand resting, protectively on the bloodsucker's back and she was watching every step the vampire took carefully. The blonde's belly was at least two times larger than he last saw it about two weeks ago.
This pregnancy seemed to be going a little slower than the last wolf hybrid one. The tiny bloodsucker's belly was about the size of an overinflated beach ball at this time in the pregnancy. Paul let himself smile a little and nodded his head. This was good. It meant he and his master had a little more time to plan.
His eyes darted between the smiles of all the mates, from Alice looking up at Leah with a bright twinkle in her eyes from the couch to Kate's head thrown back in laughter. He looked down and huffed as he tried to shake the tears from his eyes. It just wasn't fair to him that everyone got their happiness and he was out here alone.
Paul snarled when he looked back at the different pairings, happy and in love. Bloodsuckers with wolves making half breeds that somehow imprinted on more bloodsuckers. He frowned at the thought of imprinting.
The pack was taught that imprinting was one of the best things that could happen to a wolf yet he hasn't. Even Leah the one who shouldn't even be a wolf, the abomination, somehow managed to get a beautiful mate and have two children. Paul angrily jerked his shoulder into the tree as he stared at the loving couple. The sound of the grinding bark snapped him out of his spiral into anger.
He pulled himself away from the tree again and took a slow breath. His master wouldn't be too happy with him if he left evidence of his presence so close to the Cullen home. Paul forced his shoulders to relax and refocused his attention onto the pregnant vampire. He needed to see if there was anything different with her pregnancy, anything he could use to his advantage.
Paul narrowed his eyes and tracked his target. Everything from her facial expressions to the tone of her voice was analyzed and logged in his memory. His master told him that no detail, no matter how small was not useless. He grinned, knowing that he was doing a good job and his master will praise him once he returns.
The pack never appreciated him or any of his efforts but his master did. His master found him when he didn't even know he was at his lowest and gave him what he needed. Freedom.
Paul was finally free to do what he wanted and when he wanted. His life didn't belong to the pack that didn't care about him and wasn't even filled with actual, full blooded wolves anymore. Soon, his master would make sure that was a thing of the past, a fluke that will never happen again.
He finally grinned, his shoulders and back relaxed and at ease. Rosalie's pregnancy was moving slower than planned, meaning he and his master had more time than they had anticipated. Time was always a welcome companion when it was on your side.
Paul stood at his post watching and evaluating the different couples for a few more minutes before deciding he had gotten all he could get from this recon trip. He let a small smile grace his face before he turned and made his way back into the woods, shifting into his wolf form.
He slowly made his way down to the non existent treaty line and peered out into La Push. One day La Push will be all his. His kingdom to rule over and protect far better than any in the pack could ever dream of. He thought about taking one quick run down to the beach, he missed home.
Paul moved to go deeper into La Push before he suddenly stopped and remembered that his master had forbidden him from going to La Push anymore. He shook his head, trying to clear it of the longing he felt. He couldn't disobey his master.
He turned and began to run to the west, towards the mountains and his master. As his paws hit the ground he reviewed everything he saw and heard over and over, not wanting to miss anything when he reports back to his master. He thought of the size of Rosalie's belly, the smile her half breed of an imprint kept shooting her way, and how easily they all seemed to fit so picture perfect.
When he saw the looming two story vacation house his master used he slowed down to a trot and followed the driveway to the slightly open garage door and quickly shuffled under it. Paul wasn't sure if his master actually lived there or just used the home to meet with him. Once inside her shifted back into human form and quickly pulled on the folded clothes his master left for him.
Paul made his way down the stairs into the dark basement, dropping to his knees before the plush chair his master sat in. The man before him sat in a deep black suit and equally black leather shoes that Paul was sure cost more than most homes in La Push. He let his head hang in submission and tried not to let the smell of damp air and mold bother him too much.
"You're back faster than I anticipated. Did you run into any problems, my wolf?" Paul's master asked, his voice smoother than silk. Paul quickly shook his head, " No, master. No one saw me and I was able to observe and learn a few more things about them."
The man in the chair smiled and nodded his head. "That's my good wolf. You didn't go near La Push did you?" He asked, his voice pointed. Paul let his head fall even lower and shuffled a bit on his knees, shame radiating through his frame. The man in front of Paul leaned forward with a knowing smirk on his face.
"I looked over where the old treaty line was and thought about maybe running along the beach. I swear I didn't. I remember what you told me, Master." Paul rushed out, hoping to avoid any harsh punishments. "I'm not to step foot in La Push until your plans are fully in motion." He added, finally looking up, hoping to see the eyes of the man.
His master leaned back into the shadow over his chair, smirk still on his face as he brought his right ankle up to rest on his left knee. "Tell what you have learned, my wolf, and I may just forgive you for almost ruining everything."
Paul excitedly nodded his head and settled onto the back of his heels as he got ready to relay everything he had learned from his old family and friends. "Master, the pregnancy isn't that far along. We have plenty of time to prepare all the travel arrangements and the doctors. Time is on our side." Paul said, hoping the most important good news delivered first would make his master forget his lapse in judgement. His master let an actual smile curve across his lips.
I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter and thank you to everyone that held out hope about me coming back and updating it means a lot. As always, please feel free to follow and/or message me on here, tumblr, or AO3. My name is the same on everything.
