A.N. I do not own Inuyasha, Doctor Who or Torchwood.

"I don't know, Mama… This is so strange. I mean, this is hardly what I thought I would find." Kagome stretched out on her bed, thoughts still jumbled. "He said I might see the Doctor again though."

"I suppose it all depends on what you want out of this experience," her mother replied, sympathy in her tone. "You left the Doctor for a reason."

Sadness settled into Kagome's chest at that, her mind wandering to the hurt in the Doctor's eyes and the fact that she had caused it. "I just-" She paused when she heard a rapping on the door. "I'll call you back, Mama. Captain Harkness is here."

When she opened the door, Jack was leaning on the door frame. "Hey. Thought I might come and see if you've considered my job offer." His smile was flirtatious.

Stepping back to allow him in, Kagome shook her head. "Are you always on? Always trying to lure someone new into your happy harem?"

"Harem? I'll have to let the others know that you think some duties need to be added to their roster." Jack shut the door behind him and grinned wolfishly at her. "So… Want to join us? Harem or otherwise?"

Smile slipping from her lips, Kagome walked to the little kitchenette. "Would you like some tea?"

His own smile fading in reaction, Jack followed her and leaned on the counter. "None for me, thank you." His eyes roved over her back as she scooped loose tea into a tea ball. "So, are you going to turn me down?"

"You? Yes. The job? I'm still thinking." Kagome set the tea ball in a mug and filled a tea kettle with water before putting it on the stove. Once she turned the burner on, she turned to face him. "Why do you do what you do?"

"The twenty-first century is when it all happens." Jack shrugged and looked her over. "You can understand."

"A time traveller yourself then," Kagome commented, looking him up and down. "But more than that… The energy around you, in you, it keeps you alive. So alive you cannot die."

Frowning, Jack stepped closer to her. "I would ask you keep that to yourself."

"Of course… The Doctor, you knew him after me. Was he-? Did he-?" Kagome broke, not sure how to ask about how he had dealt with her rejection.

"He loved you. Never has stopped from what I can tell. But life goes on. He's older than he looks and he's had years to get past your leaving. Besides, you would have left him eventually even if you had loved him back. You're only human," Jack pointed out, knowing this very line of thought was something that went through the Doctor's mind.

Wishing she could correct him, Kagome just shook her head. "I think it best that I stay out of Torchwood. But we can be friends."
