A/N: I told you updates would be weird for a while, so here is an oddly timed update for you lovely people!

Days passed in a monotonous blur. Twice a day Joly would enter Eponine's room to tend to her wounds. Cosette would stop in momentarily to give Eponine food. Day by day Eponine's wounds were healing little by little. The only wound left untreated was the one in her heart. Since the day she had yelled at Marius, he hadn't entered her room since. He was the one person she needed. Marius could always make her feel better.
Eponine still didn't understand fully what had happened at the barricades after she had passed out, but she was too afraid to ask anyone. Suddenly, without knocking, Joly rushed into Eponine's room, waking her from her sleep. It couldn't have been later than dawn for the sun hadn't even risen.
Joly shook her in a panic, "Eponine we have to go, now!" he whispered frantically.
Still in a sleepy haze, Eponine couldn't make out everything Joly was saying. The herbal concoction he'd been giving her to help with pain from her injuries made her very drowsy. As hard as she tried to keep her eyes open, they fluttered shut.
"Eponine! It's the National Guard, they've found us! We have to move!" Joly said as he pulled her up from the bed.
Hearing the words "National Guard", Eponine immediately perked up. Not bothering to be cautious of her still healing wounds, Eponine threw the sheets off of her body and shot up from her bed. She could feel one of her stitches tearing, but she couldn't slow down for even a second. At first walking was difficult, for Eponine had been on bed rest for almost a month, but once she and Joly had reached the doorway, Eponine had started to gain her footing. Upon exiting the room that had become her home, she was shocked to see the rest of the house she'd been abiding in. It was a quaint cottage, but still it was one of the prettiest places Eponine had ever stepped foot in.

Distracted by the cozy cottage, Eponine hadn't realized she had stopped walking until she felt someone pick her up. The rest of the small house passed by in a blur as she was rushed away. Soon, she had made it outside into the small garden that Eponine had only seen when spying on Marius and Cosette. Whoever had been carrying her set her down and paused, giving Eponine the opportunity to see who had helped her. To her surprise, it was Marius.

Joly suddenly appeared next to her as if out of thin air. "I knew they'd find us at some point, but I was hoping it would be after your wound had healed. Did you rip any stitches?" Joly asked with an almost paternal look of concern etched on his face.

"Maybe a couple, but I'll be fine. Where did Marius go?" Eponine replied.

"Saying goodbye to Cosette I suppose. He won't let her come with us, and he asked her to call off the engagement so she wouldn't be associated with him. Doesn't want her to be questioned." Joly stated.

Before Eponine could reply, Marius came dashing out of the back door to what Eponine assumed was Cosette's house. In one hand Marius held a small suitcase and in the other a leather satchel, which he tossed to Joly.

"A friend of mine said we could stay with him for a few days until we find better living arrangements." Marius said in passing as he dashed towards the gate. Eponine and Joly took the hint and followed suit.

Eponine could hardly see as she ran the dim streets of Paris alongside her friends. The stars were her only source of light, but Eponine had walked the streets at night before and practically had every nook of Paris etched into her brain. She and the boys took every back road they could so they could stay out of sight. Finally Marius halted by a small red door to a worn looking building in the heart of Paris.

"Your best plan to keep us out of sight is to have us live in the center of the city?!" Eponine hissed to Marius.

"I didn't exactly know that the National Guard was going to come marching down Rue Plumet in the middle of the night!" he hissed back.

"Well you could have found us a more secluded safe house!" Eponine countered her voice rising in volume.

"Oh yeah? Do you have any ideas because I-" Marius was cut off by someone opening the red, wooden door.

In the doorway stood an obviously eclectic young man. He looked to be about Marius' age, but how he and Marius met, Eponine hadn't a clue. This man had fiery, unkempt ginger hair that was partially hidden by a purple top hat. A red wool coat and white shirt covered his torso, but what really stood out were his yellow linen breeches and lack of shoes.

"Marius! So great to see you. A while back I sent you a letter, but you must not have received it… Or at least I think I sent that letter. You never know, I'm a bit scattered at the moment." The odd man had a voice quite like what Eponine thought a leprechaun would sound like.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Eponine." Eponine said as she stuck out her hand for the man to shake.

"Why hello there Poline. My name is Duncan Redichen of the Irish Redichens. I've known your friend her since I was only seven years old!" rambled Duncan as Eponine, Joly and Marius held in chuckles.

Duncan led them into his apartment, and Eponine couldn't say she was surprised by its appearance at all. Books littered the wood floors, dirty dishes piled up on the table and sink, mismatched pillows and knick-knacks smothered the couch.

"Now for the lady Pauline, you can sleep on the couch. I'm afraid to say that you too have to sleep on the floor. I'll leave you three to regroup. Oh, and if you happen to find my psychology textbook, that would be greatly appreciated!" Duncan said cheerfully as he scurried off to his room.

"There is far too much dust in here for me at the moment. If you'll excuse me for a moment, I need some air." Joly said with a sneeze as he left through the tiny red door. This left Eponine alone with Marius for the first time since she had awoken from her injuries.

Marius sat against a tall stack of books, trying to look anywhere but at Eponine. Eponine sat beside him, letting the silence wash over her. Although her and Marius weren't on the best of terms, she still felt at home whenever she was near him. Somehow in the silence, Marius' hand had found Eponine's and their fingers intertwined. As if on a cue, the pair turned their heads to face each other. Marius' blue eyes bored into hers, but something was different about them. They didn't have the same spark that his eyes once had. Their electricity had turned dull, but still to Eponine they were beautiful.

"You've had quite the month haven't you Monsieur?" Eponine mumbled with a smirk.

"I told you, you don't have to call me Monsieur, 'Ponine." Marius replied as a smile tugged at the corners of his lips.

Without a cause, the two burst into fits of laughter. Just like that all was forgiven. Eponine let a snort slip from her mouth and her face blushed red with embarrassment, but this only served to make Marius laugh even harder. Soon Eponine's head had fallen into Marius' lap as the two chuckled the night away.

Sure the spark had gone out in Marius' eyes, and Eponine's had died along with her brother, but the two could support each other, and maybe, just maybe that's all that mattered.

A/N 2: So what did you think? Eponine and Marius are friends again yay! At first I was planning on them fighting for another chapter, but I just couldn't bear to write it. REVIEW please
