"He's so bad but he does it so well."

November 5th, 2010.

Klaus stared down at the drink in his hand, swirling the liquid around before sighing and bring the drink to his lips.

He mind was racing, ever since that stupid dinner party Kol insisted on hosting.

No matter how hard he tried, Klaus couldn't stop himself from reliving that night, or more specific, the moment HE found out Kol had managed to get Brooklyn to sleep with him. All the emotions that raced through his veins, the way his heart-felt like it broke into a million pieces, he never felt anything like it.

Of course, Klaus knew that, then, Brooklyn had no clue who Kol was, let alone that he was Klaus' little brother.

But still, Kol talked to her for not even two hours and managed to take her home. Meanwhile, Klaus had been nothing but nice to her, from the moment he first met her back in 1864, to now, and all he managed to get was a small smile, if that.

Frustrated, Klaus ran a hand through his hair and stood up, walking over to the fireplace, staring down at the flames.

He didn't know what he felt for Brooklyn. He didn't understand why he got so angry that he was welling to kill his own brother - yes, he dragged Kol for 100 years, but he'd never kill him - for sleeping with Brooklyn. Or why it broke his heart that moment her looked her in the eyes afterwards. He just didn't understand.

Elijah was hell-bent on the fact that it was love, and when he told Klaus this, all Klaus could do was roll his eyes.

Love. As if.

Klaus didn't love anyone, save for his family, but even then he didn't show it. As if he loved someone like Brooklyn, who wouldn't even give him the time of day if Klaus didn't force it out of her.

But, through he'd never tell anyone this, a tiny part of him knew Elijah was right. Through he'd never act on that tiny part, all the signs were there.

Plus, Klaus could think of worse people to love. Way worse.

If he did have to pick someone to be in love with-

Klaus stopped himself, shaking his head before walking over to the bar and pouring another drink.

What was he thinking? He was Klaus Mikaelsson. The almighty hybrid. He didn't love.

Besides, Brooklyn could hardly look his way.

Elijah told him to try and be nice to her, to get her to trust him and open up more. But, Klaus already tried all that. Even when he was being nice and friendly to her, Brooklyn questioned him.

She opened up to Rebekah and Elijah, even Kol, easily.

Because they didn't do anything to personal hurt her.

That's what she told Rebekah. That was Brooklyn's reasoning as to why she talked to his baby sister. But he never did anything to personal hurt her either, if anything, he helped her. He told her to go live her life, and she did.

"Getting the party started early, dear brother?"

Turning around, drink still in his hand, Klaus saw Kol and Rebekah standing in the doorway to the sitting room.

Kol was wearing a button down shirt and dark-wash jeans while Rebekah was dressed in black skinny jeans, gold shimmering, flowing shirt and a black leather jacket. They were obviously dressed for a party, for Stefan's party.

Klaus turned back around, rolling his eyes as he clutched the drink in his hand, bringing it to his lips.

He was not in the mood to deal with Kol tonight.

"You are going, right Nik?" He heard Rebekah ask.

"To the party?" Klaus looked down at the liquid in the glass. "Of course not. Why would I go to a silly birthday party."

"Okay, two reasons." Rebekah said. "One, it's Stefan's party. You two were best buddies, remember? And two, did you not tell Brooke you would be there?"

"Ahh, Brooke's going to be there, then?" Kol smirked, causing Klaus to shot him a glare over his shoulder and Rebekah to elbow him.

"Shut up, Kol." She snapped. "Of course she is. Stefan's her brother. But that's not the point here." Rebekah turned back to Klaus, who still had his back facing her. "You told her you were going, so you have to go now, Nik."

"And why is that Rebekah?" Klaus sighed, turning around. "It's not like she will miss me if I'm not there. Besides, I'm sure she'd be happier if I didn't show up."

"Oh, come on!" Rebekah rolled her eyes. "You can't give up now Nik. You may not admit it, but I know you like her."

Klaus snorted. "I don't like her, Rebekah."

"Whats so bad about liking Brooke?" Kol stepped in. "Look, Nik, I know you're a bit pissed at me right now-"

"A bit?" Klaus raised an eyebrow.

"Okay, a lot, whatever." Kol rolled his eyes. "But did you ever stop and think about why you were so pissed at me for sleep with Brooke?"

Klaus didn't answer as he continued to stare at Kol with an emotionless face. He'd never tell Kol, but he was thinking about that just a moment ago.

"You care about her, dear brother." Kol continued. "Hell, I may even say you loved her, if that's possible."

"Kol," Rebekah warned.

"My point is, there is worse girls to love Nik. And I know, somewhere in that cold, dried up heart of yours, you really do care and love Brooklyn Salvatore. If not, you won't be so upset over the fact that I slept with her." Kol finished.

Klaus studied Kol for a moment. Though he basically said what Klaus was thinking about earlier, it sounded different hearing it from someone else.

And Klaus would never say it, but he knew Kol was right.

But he couldn't, he didn't, love or care about Brooklyn. Not in the way Kol was talking about.

"Besides," Kol added, a smirk forming on his lips. "Let me tell you, she's pretty good in-"

"Do not. Finish. That. Sentence." Klaus growled, sending Kol his most hateful glare as Kol laughed.

"Nice one Kol, good job." Rebekah rolled her eyes before looking at Nik. "Would you just throw on a leather jacket and come on? You know you wanna go."

Klaus thought about it for a moment. Go to one of his oldest friends party with Rebekah and Kol and possible run into Brookllyn… Or stay here, in the house with his mother. He didn't even have Finn or Elijah to talk to or hang out with tonight. Finn was off doing something for Ester while Elijah was out of town for a bit. At least, thats what he told them.

Klaus sighed, placing down the empty glass. "Fine. Let's go."

Once Klaus had changed his shirt and put on a leather jacket, he met up with Kol and Rebekah by the front door.

"Let's get this part started!" Kol cheered, as he turned around to face the door.

Klaus raised an eyebrow as Rebekah sighed.

"This is his first party since his been undraggered," She explained. "And if he keeps this up, it'll be his last."

"Whatever Bex." Kol rolled his eyes as he opened the door, but a voice stopped them before they could walk out into the cold.

"Where are you three headed?"

Turning around, the three siblings found their mother standing at the middle of the stairs.

Klaus, or any of them really, didn't know what their mother was up to. She kept to herself most of the time but insisted they had at least one dinner together each week, so she could "get to know her children better".

Klaus still didn't fully trust her, but it's been over a month since the ball and she hasn't done anything yet, so he was starting to think that Elijah was right, maybe she really did want them to be a family.

With that said, Klaus was still on his guard when he was around his mother, just in case she let something slip and something odd happened.

"To Stefan's party," Rebekah explained to Ester, who nodded.

"And any idea when you'll be back?"

"Don't worry Mun," Kol smirked. "We'll be responsible and make sure Bekah stays under control. And we'll keep the boys away."

"Yeah," Rebekah snorted. "As if I'm the one who needs to be kept under control."

"Any reason for the questions, mother?" Klaus asked, slightly raising his eyebrow. "We are the Original Vampire's after all. I think we can take care of ourselves."

"He's right," Kol nodded. "If anything, you should be worried about the humans that are going to be there."

"Really, Kol?" Rebekah rolled her eyes.

"Well," Ester replied. "What kind of mother would I be if I didn't worry or ask these questions. Anyways, you three better be on your way."

Nodding, all three siblings turned around and walked out of the mansion, the last thing they heard was their mother's voice.

"Have fun."

Brooke stared down at the drink in her hand, swirling the liquid around before sighing and bring the drink to her lips.

She was sitting in the living room of the boarding house, dressed in black tights, a green flowing, long sleeve dress that ended around mid-thigh, along with black heels.

Really, she'd been dressed and ready to go for about two hours now. She was dressed, hair done - her waves were now in tighter waves down her back - and her makeup done.

Stefan and Damon where long gone. Stefan left with Caroline about a hour and a half ago and Damon left just after them. The party started over an hour ago, and the farthest Brooke got was the living room.

She didn't want to go. But she knew she had to. It was her brothers party. She had to go, for Stefan.

But, if she went, then she'd run the risk of running into Klaus, and she didn't want that.

I'm different. I've changed. But so have you, love.

Brooke knew this. he knew Klaus wasn't Nik. She knew - or rather guessed - that he'd changed since she first met him. But still, hearing the words come out of his own mouth hit her hard.

She so wrapped up in the fact that Klaus wasn't Nik, that she never stopped to think about the fact that she'd changed too.

He was right, she wasn't the same little human girl her knew. She'd changed, for the better in her opinion. But, then again, maybe he changed for the better too..

Brooke shook her head. Klaus never changed for the better. That would mean he was worse than he is now when he was human, and Brooke really doubted that.

Brooke would love to know what Klaus was like as a human. He knew, somewhat, what she was like before she was turned. What was he like? Was he caring? Did he help his brothers and sister rather than dragger them? Was he the perfect son? Did he love?

Brooke took the last sip of her drink to stop her thoughts. Why did she care what Klaus was like as a human?

Besides, he cared about her, didn't he?

There's something, love, interest, I don't know what to call it, but there is something there that he feels for you. I know it. I can tell

Did Klaus really feel something for her? He was nicer and even more charming to her then anyone else. But, why her? Why did he care about her so much?

Katherine said anyone could see it… Was that true? Did basically all of Mystic Falls think Brooke and Klaus had the hots for each other.

The hots for Klaus? Brooke almost snorted out loud. As if.

But, then again, why would that be so bad? Because her brothers and the Mystic Falls gang thought it was bad? Klaus never did anything to personal hurt-

Brooke stopped. That was the reasoning she gave Rebekah when she wondered why Brooke was even being nice to her. She was being nice because Rebekah didn't do anything to hurt her, and she actually liked Rebekah.

But yet, Klaus never did anything to personal hurt her either, and here she was, pushing him away.

Brooke couldn't take this anymore.

Shaking her head slightly, Brooke looked down at her empty glass before standing up, swaying slightly as she did so.

It took a lot to get a vampire drunk, but it wasn't impossible. And the fact that Brooke started drinking early that day and just kept going didn't help the matter.

"Early start?"

Turning towards the main entrance, Brooke saw Katherine leaning against the door frame of the living room, arms crossed and a smug look on her face.

"What do you want, Katherine?" Brooke asked, her voice harsher then it was meant to be, as she made her way over to the bar, pouring another drink.

"You aren't even at the party yet and you're already pissed drunk," Katherine pointed out, ignoring the question as she stepped forward. "I'm impressed."

"I'm not pissed drunk," Brooke glared, taking a sip of her drink. "And I'm not going to the party."

"I figured that's what you'd say." Katherine sighed, sitting down on the couch.

"How'd you know…" Brooke begun to ask, but trailed off as realization hit her. "You've been spying on me."

"Yes, I have been," Katherine nodded. "I know you started drinking around noon today and haven't stopped. I know you were suppose to be at the party 2 hours ago. And I know you've been sitting here instead, thinking of Klaus."

Brooke raised an eyebrow. She couldn't correct her, because she wasn't lying.

"How do you know?" She asked instead.

"Besides, Brooklyn Elizabeth Salvatore," Katherine smirked. "I know you. And I say you should just hook up with him and get it over with."

Brooke didn't reply. She wasn't in the mood to deal with Katherine right now. Instead, she rolled her eyes and took a big sip of her drink, causing Katherine to sigh.

"Okay listen. Forget about Klaus and hooking up with him. Think about your brother. Stefan is going to want nothing more than to see his sister at his party enjoying herself. Cause you and I both know Stefan has been worried sick over the fact you and Damon still aren't talking. It would mean the world to him to see you having a good time, for one night."

Brooke stared down at the liquid in her glass. Katherine was right. Stefan was worried sick about her and Damon. He wanted nothing more then for them to start talking again, but Brooke didn't see that happening any time soon.

But she knew, it would make Stefan feel a million times better to see her at his party, having a good time, even if it was only for a few hours.

"Where are you going?" Katherine asked as she raised an eyebrow, watching as Brooke put her glass down.

"To my brother's party." Brooke called over her shoulder as she walked toward the door, hearing Katherine say 'I told you so' behind her.

"I was wondering," Katherine followed Brooke to the door. "Pretty much everyone there is going to be drunk, so-"

"No." Brooke turned around after she opened the door, giving Katherine a hard look.

"Why not? They're just going to think I'm Elena."

"If you wanna get caught by my brothers, plus Klaus, then go ahead." Brooke crossed her arms. "You may be able to fool all the humans there, but you aren't going to fool my brothers."

"Fine," Katherine grumbled. "I'll just go back to that damn motel then."

"You can stay here until my brothers get back." Brooke told her, but Katherine's face broke out into a smirk.

"And ruin the moment when you and Klaus come stumbling through the door, as if."

"Oh, please," Brooke rolled her eyes. "I'm never going to be drunk enough to sleep with Klaus."

"I don't know, Brookie. You're about half way there now."

"Bye Katherine!" Brooke called out as she turned around and walked out the door. However, she didn't even make it half way down the steps before she stumbled and had to stop herself from falling.

"You sure you don't want me to walk you there Brooklyn," Brooke could hear Katherine laughing behind her, but she just turned around and gave her the finger before continuing down the walk away and speeding off towards the Grill.

This was the worse idea ever.

Brooke pushed the door to the Mystic Grill opened and immediately wished she could just turn around and walk back home.

Before she even reached the door, she could hear the music blasting, meaning it was even louder by the time she opened the door.

But now, as she stood in the doorway, watching people got drunk - they had the right idea - and dance on the dance floor to the music, she really wished she was anywhere but here.

With all that said, Caroline really did out do herself. The main lights were dimmed as different colours stage lights flicked and flashed around the room. Balloons and streamers floated on the ceiling and the walls while a big Happy Birthday Stefan sigh was hung on the wall on Brooke's left.

Maybe if I leave now-

"Brooke!" A voice called out from somewhere in the crowd, causing Brooke to curse under her breath as Elena came into view.

"Hey," Elena smiled as she came to a stop in front of Brooke, who gave her a tight smile.

"Hi."

She knew Elena was just trying to be nice, and Brooke did know that the only thing her and Katherine had in common were their looks, but still. It was hard for Brooke to talk to the girl when she played - and was kind of playing - with her brothers hearts so much.

"We didn't think you'd come." Elena said, trying to keep up the conversation.

"Neither did I, honestly," Brooke replied as she looked around the room. "Where's Stefan?"

"Last I seen him he was standing by the bar with Damon."

Yeah, I really shouldn't have come tonight… Brook thought as she flinched. She did not want to deal with Damon right now.

"Is Damon still with him?" Brooke turned to Elena, praying she would say no.

However, luck wasn't on her side tonight, as Elena gave her a sad smile.

"I don't know," she said. "It was about half an hour ago last time I say them. Sorry."

"It's okay," Brooke sighed. "I'm going to go find Stefan. Thanks."

Without waiting for Elena to reply, Brooke walked farther into the Grill, being careful not walk into anyone as she made her way over to the bar, hoping to find Stefan soon so he'd know she turned up, then she could leave again.

Luckily, Stefan was still standing at the bar, drink in hand as he stared out at the crowd. Unlucky, however, Damon was standing next to him.

Brooke froze a few feet away for them. Did she really want to deal with Damon at the moment? She loved her baby brother, but her patience with Damon was wearing thin, and she just couldn't deal with him anymore.

Turning around, Brooke started making her way back towards the door. She'd much rather spend her night dealing with Katherine and at the party anyways.

"Brooke!"

She didn't even get two steps away when she heard Stefan calling out her name, causing her to stop on the spot and curse.

Slowly, Brooke turned around and say both brothers looking her way, Stefan had a smile on his face at the sight of his sister as Damon looked around and took a sip of his drink, downing the rest of it in one shot before getting the bartender to pout him another.

"Hey Stefan," Brooke walked forward, forcing a smile on her face as she pulled Stefan into a hug. "Happy birthday."

"I'm glad you came!" Stefan continued to smile at her as they pulled away. "I thought you'd never show up."

"Yeah, sorry. I've been… busy." Brooke answered before turning to the bartender, getting him to put her a drink.

"Thanks." She smiled before taking a sip as she heard Damon snort.

"Have enough to drink yet?" Damon glanced over at her. "Didn't you start early today?"

"Nice one talking," Brooke snapped. "Don't you basically live at the bar?"

"Please," Stefan stepped in, glaring at both of them. "Get along for this one night."

Damon shrugged as Brooke snorted, crossing her arms. However, before either could respond, a voice cut them off.

"Stefan!" A familiar accent could be heard and, when the Salvatore's turned, they say Kol, Klaus and Rebekah walking toward them. Klaus hanging back as Rebekah walked in front, smile on her face.

"Happy birthday Stefan," She smile as she pulled him into a hug.

Brooke raised an eyebrow at the two before sending Stefan a knowing smile, one which caused him to rolled his eyes.

"Happy birthday, mate." Klaus stepped forward, giving Stefan a pat on the shoulder as Stefan nodded his head, smiling.

"Thanks."

As Klaus walked passed Stefan and to the bar to get a drink,, to turned to face Brooke, giving her a small smirk which cause her to roll her eyes. However, she couldn't stop the small smile that pulled at her lips.

"Yes, happy happy birthday," Kol smirked. "It must be nice having a party. I wouldn't know. The last one I had was over a hundred years ago."

"Oh, grow up." Rebekah rolled her eyes.

"Yes, over a thousand years old and never had a birthday party before," Damon rolled his eyes "Life must be hard."

"Why Damon," Kol's smirk grew bigger. "Is someone still upset and angry about the other night?"

Brooke groaned, downing her drink in one go before getting another. He just had to bring that back up. He just had to.

The tension in the room grew as Brooke started to down another drink. Damon clenched his glass so tight Brooke was surprised it didn't break as Klaus rolled draggers at his brother, looking like he was about to dragger him on the spot - something that confused Brooke, more than normal thanks to the drinks. Stefan, meanwhile, shifted uncomfortably on the spot as Kol continued to smirk at Damon.

"Brooke," Rebekah suddenly spoke up, causing Brooke to turn to the Original with a questioning look. "How about we go dance?"

"Oh my god, yes." Brooke sighed, thankful for Rebekah at the moment.

Throwing back the last of her drink, Brooke followed Rebekah onto the dance floor, away from the boys.

"Thanks for that!" Brooke spoke over the music as they walked farther away from the boys.

"No problem!" Rebekah smiled at her over her shoulder. "It was getting to awkward up there. I don't know who was going to kill Kol first, Damon or Nik."

Brooke raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean by 'or Nik'?"

However, Rebekah just shook her head, coming to a stop in the middle of the dance floor.

"Nothing," Rebekah said, turning to Brooke. "Let's just get you loosened up a bit."

"The won't be hard," Brooke smirked as her and Rebekah started to dance to the music. "I'll already drink out the boarding house."

The sound of Rebekah's laugh was lost in the music as the two girls danced along to the beat.

Brooke tried really hard to forget about everything that was going on in her life and enjoy herself, like Rebekah said. She didn't know if it was because of all the drinks or if she really was having fun, laughing and dancing around with Rebekah, but Brooke actually, for a while, relaxed.

"Thirsty ladies?" Kol smirked, handing them each a drink, as both girls walked over to the bar. "You two looked like you where having fun."

"Had to loosen her up," Rebekah smirked at Brooke, who was taking a sip of her drink. "She was too up-tight. Like an old women."

"Right," Brooke laughed. "Says the girl who is over a thousand years old."

"Trust me, lass," Kol smirked. "She may be over a thousand years old and look eighteen, but she acts like a five year old brat."

"Excuse me," Rebekah glared at her brother as Brooke laughed. "If anyone acts like a five year old, it's you."

"Sounds like something a brat would say to me." Kol continued to smirk as he took a sip of his drink.

Brooke couldn't help but laugh. It was nice and refreshing to see a brother and sister playing with each other like Rebekah and Kol did. Like her and Damon use too...

"Well, this is du ja va."

Looking to her left, Brooke say Damon walking up to them, drink in hand with a hard look on his face.

Rebekah raised an eyebrow. "What are you talking about?"

"Not for me. For Brooke here," Damon explained before turning to his sister. "Wasn't this how your night was going before you went off and slept with him?" Damon nodded his head in Kol's direction.

"Hey, mate-" Kol stepped in, obviously fed up with Damon, but he was cut off.

"I'm far from your mate, mate." Damon glared at Kol.

"Damon, why don't you just back off and forget about it." Rebekah spoke up.

"Well," Damon turned back to Brooke, who was glaring at him. "Looks like you have both Originals wrapped around your finger. What did you do Brooke? Sleep with Rebekah too?"

"What's wrong with you?" Rebekah glared at Damon with pure disgust at how he was acting towards his sister.

Brooke, however, stepped forward, giving Damon her most hateful glare.

"You're a dick." She spatted in his face, causing Damon to snort.

"Trust me sister, I've been called worse."

"What's going on?" Stefan asked, eyebrows pinched together when he say his brother and sister having a face off.

However, before anyone could answer, Brooke turned around and pushed past everyone, walking towards the door and outside into the cold.

She walked a few feet until she was on the side of the building when she stopped and leaned against to cold brick.

Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath, Brooke slide down the walk, pulling her legs to her chest, resting he head on top on her knees.

She wanted to cry, scream and hit something all at once. But no tears came to her tears and she felt like she didn't have to energy to hit anything.

She was sick of Damon. She couldn't take it anymore. She was trying to move on and forget everything, but it was hard when he just kept bringing everything back up again.

"Are you okay, love?"

Brooke didn't move. She didn't know if she was annoyed by that damn accent, or relieved.

After a few moments, however, Brooke looked up to find Klaus standing a few foot away from her, his blue eyes seeming to glow in the dark.

Brooke shrugged, looking down at her knees. "I'm alright."

"Mind if I sit?"

"Go ahead."

Klaus slowly stepped forward before sliding down the wall, sitting close to Brooke, but not to close. They both stayed silence for a while until Brooke spoke up, still looking down at her knees.

"You heard everything, didn't you."

"I did," Klaus nodded. "And if you didn't walk away when you did, I would have ripped your brother's heart right out of his chest."

"Why didn't you?" Brooke wondered, glancing up at Klaus. "Why did it matter that I left?"

"Because, you seem like you needed someone more than Damon needed his heart ripped out."

Silence fell around the two once more, Brooke didn't knowing what to say after what Klaus said. But, what she did know - and it scared her - was that she didn't mind having Klaus to talk to.

Before, whenever they were talking, Brooke always pushed him away, she didnt want to talk to him. But now, after actually listening to him, she realized she actually liked talking to Klaus.

Maybe she should treat him more like she treated his brothers and sister.

After all, he never did anything to personal hurt her.

How many drinks did I have tonight?

"I don't actually like you're older brother," Klaus said after a while. "But, he would be an idiot not to forgive you and move on."

Brooke looked up and raised an eyebrow. "Oh, really?"

"Yes." Klaus smiled at her. "You are an amazing sister, who truly cares about her brother even after everything he's said and done. If he doesn't forgive you, its his loss"

"Thank-you." Brooke said softly, smiling gratefully at Klaus, who smiled back.

"Your welcome, love."

"Still," Brooke sighed, resting her head against the brick. "I just wish I could get away for a bit."

Klaus stared at Brooke for a moment, as if he was studying her, before he spoke.

"I can help with that."

Brooke slowly walked a few feet behind Klaus as they stepped into the sitting room of the Mikaelsson mansion.

"You know," Brooke said. "When you said you could 'take me away', your house wasn't what I had in mind."

"Yes well, I didn't think you would go along with a flight to Paris right now." Klaus looked over his should at her as he walked to the bar. "Besides, I think getting away from the party was what you needed most. Would you like a drink?"

"Yes, please." Brooke said as she looked around the room, taking off her jacket and placing it on the couch.

She knew she really shouldn't have a drink right now. One, it was with Klaus, of all people. And two, she was already tipsy enough as it was. Hell, she would even go as far as saying she was drunk.

"Here you go," Klaus walked over and handed Brooke her drink, which she gladly took.

"Thanks," She said, taking a sip as she looked around. "Where is everyone? Well, besides Kol and Rebekah?"

"I'm not sure were Elijah is at the moment." Klaus replied. "Finn is doing something for mother, so he's out of town and mothers down stairs in her study."

Brooke nodded, not knowing what else to say. She also couldn't tell if she was happy over the fact her and Klaus weren't alone, or not.

Looking around the room so more - she wanted to look anywhere but Klaus - her eyes landed on a painting hanging over the fireplace.

It was dark, because of the fact there was only dark colours used. It showed a number of little huts along with outside fire pits and logs for sitting. There was a beautiful forest in the background along with a grey sky above. It looked more like a photo then a painting.

Brooke was so amazed by the painting, that she didn't even realize she had walked over to it until Klaus's voice came from behind her.

"That's what Mystic Falls looked like over a millennium ago," He was standing so close that she could just feel his breath on her neck, causing her to almost jump.

"Really?" Brooke's voice came out just above a whisper.

"Yes," Klaus reached out from behind Brooke and pointed in a little hut on the far right of the painting. "That right there, is what my family lived in, back when we were humans."

Brooke stared at the picture in wonder. She kind of knew what life was like back over a thousand years ago. But, to see a picture of the hut that the Mikaelsons lived in, a family that consisted of eight people, it was hard to wrap your head around.

That, and all the alcohol was starting to make her head swim.

"How did you get this?" Brooke asked after a few moments of silence.

"I painted it."

Brooke turned around, taking a step back so there was some space between the two of them as she raised an eyebrow. "You paint?"

Klaus nodded, a smirk forming on his lips. "What? Did you think all my hobbies consist of harming people?"

"Well," Brooke returned the smirk. "You are the almighty hybrid, aren't you?"

"That I am, love."

The tone of his voice caused Brooke to roll her eyes as she turned back to the painting on the wall, taking in every inch of it.

"It's beautiful." She said in a soft voice.

"Would you like to see more?" Klaus asked, causing Brooke to turn around.

"There's more?"

Klaus nodded his head before his eyes shifted to the stairs. Then he turned around and walked back over to the bar, pouring himself another drink.

The way he suddenly backed away caused Brooke to raise an eyebrow.

It took her a moment - no thanks to all the drinks - to realize that he was nervous, and if it wasn't for the atmosphere in the room right now, Brooke would have laughed out loud. She never dreamed she'd see Klaus nervous.

But, she could guess it was because he never showed anyone his work before. Anyone he knew personally at least.

She really doubted that, when Klaus first met someone, the first thing he said after mighty hybrid was that he could paint.

"I'd love to see more." Brooke spoke up, causing Klaus to slowly turn around to face her.

By the way he was looking at her, she could tell that he was trying to see if she was lying or not. Giving him a smile, Brooke nodded her head and took a few steps forward, showing him that she really did want to see more.

Walking towards her, Klaus stuck out his arm for her to take, which she did without so much as a moments hesitation. Partly because if they were walking up stairs, there was no way she was making it up by herself in the state she was in at the moment.

Giving her a smile, Klaus lead Brooke up the stairs and down the hall a few feet before they stopped in front of a dark oak door.

Reaching a hand out, Klaus pushed the door open, showing a giant room.

It was dark, mainly because it was night and there was heavy, dark curtains over the two giant windows on the opposite side of the room. There was a king size bed on Brooke's right with an end table on each side. Across for the bed was a dresser with a giant flat screen pinned on the wall above it. There was also a door on each side of the dresser. Some paintings - that Brooke now knew was Klaus' work - were pinned on the walls also.

"This your room?" Brooke asked and Klaus nodded as he stepped into the room, Brooke following him.

He walked over to the windows, where there was a desk with books, paints and different pencils and pens across it. There was also some easels shattered around with some finished paintings and half finished ones.

"These aren't all of them," Klaus pointed out as he stepped back and watched as Brooke looked between all the different paintings. "But there are my most recent ones and ones I'm working on."

"Klaus," Brooke turned towards him, looking up for a painting of the forest at sunset. "These are incredible."

"Thank-you, love." Klaus replied with a smile as Brooke walked over to the desk, carefully picking up a book.

"Let me guess," Brooke spoke as she flipped through some stretches. "You stretch too?"

"I started out sketching," Klaus informed her, watching her from a few feet away as her back was turned to him. "Then I got into painting from there."

Brooke nodded as she closed the stretch book and went the open the one under it, but something caught her eye.

Across the desk, sitting by itself and away from the other books, was a dark blue stretched book. She could tell by the wrinkles in the edges of the paper and by the look of the book that it was older.

Without thinking, Brooke reached across the desk and grabbed the book.

"What's this one?" She looked over her shoulder at Klaus before looking back down at the book.

"Not that-" Klaus stepped forward, about to stop her. He knew that book like the back of his hand, and he didn't want Brooke to see that one.

But it was to late.

By the time he reached Brooke's side, she was already staring down at the picture.

He looked at her face, thinking he would find rage and anger. But, instead, Brooke's face showed confusion and shock.

Carefully, she lifted a hand and touched the black lines that formed a young women in a beautiful ball grown. Long hair flowed down her back in tight curls as her eyes bounced off the page and her smile lite up that room.

Moving her hand, Brooke brought it up to the top of the page, where it said, in elegant writing, Happy Birthday Brooklyn.

Suddenly, so suddenly that Brooke jumped, Klaus ripped the book out of her hands and slammed it shut.

"I think its time for you to leave." Klaus said through clenched teeth before turning around and starting towards the door, but Brooke didn't follow.

"You drew that?" Brooke spoke, her voice just above a whisper, as she stared down at the now blank desk. "Of me?"

Klaus clenched his fists. He wasn't mad at her, he just wished she never seen the damn drawing. Because of the fact she now knew about it, he felt weak. And Klaus hated feeling weak.

Turning around and walking back towards Brooke, Klaus put a firm hand on her shoulder and spun her around.

Brooke stared up at him with wide, blue eyes as he glared down at her, his face unreadable.

"I think it's time for you to leave." He repeated, but this time, it wasn't as harsh. It almost sounded like he didn't mean it.

Brooke watched Klaus with her big blue eyes as her mind started to work over time. Almost like two halves of her brain were fighting over what to do.

He drew that picture, of her. And it was beautiful. Part of her was so touched and amazed that he would draw her. But, the other part was yelling at her. Telling her this was Klaus, the mighty hybrid.

Then, as she looked into his eyes, everything stopped.

Standing before her wasn't Klaus, the almighty hybrid who killed and hurt people.

Standing in front of her was Klaus, the hybrid who didn't do anything to personal hurt her and even drew a picture of her. Standing in front of her, looking at her with his baby-blue eyes was someone who may actually care about her. Someone who listened to her and gave her advice. Someone who was, and is, welling to help her and be there for her.

Standing in front of her was Nik.

Standing on her tiptoes, Brooke leaned forward and placed a kiss on Klaus' lips. It was soft and only lasted a few seconds, and she really didn't know why she did it. All she knew was that, even though it was only a few seconds, it felt good.

When she pulled back, her and Klaus stared at each other, both not really knowing what just happened. But, as Brooke continued to stare at Klaus, she knew what was about to come.

And she didn't want to stop it.

In the morning, Brooke would blame it on the alcohol. When her brothers questioned her about where she went, she wouldn't tell him about Klaus. When Katherine asked her what happened, she would say she had way to much to drink.

Klaus' lips quickly found her's, and she didn't push him away. Instead, her arms wrapped around his neck, pulling him closer as his arms snaked around her waist.

Her mind cleared instantly, and she never felt more alive. She never felt her heart race so much in her life and she felt a yearning in her stomach she never felt before.

She never felt more at peace and at home then she did at that moment.

Klaus placed his hands on the back of her legs as her lifted her up, Brooke's legs wrapping around his waist as she tangled her fingers in his hair.

Klaus walked over to the bed and carefully placed Brooke down on the mattress without breaking the kiss.

As he hovered over her, Klaus ran his tongue along her bottom lip, begging for entrance, which Brooke gladly gave him.

Brooke untangled her fingers from Klaus' curls and ran her hands down over his chest before she quickly found the hem of his shirt. She started to pull it up just as Klaus stopped her.

"Brooklyn," He pulled away, resting his forehead on hers as he breathed her name, causing her stomach to flip. "Are you-"

If he asked Brooke when she never had anything to drink and was thinking clearly, she'd like to think she'd say no and push Klaus away. But now, as Klaus had his arms wrapped around her, their foreheads rested together as they breathing filled the room, plus add the fact that he stopped to ask if she was sure about this, Brooke didn't know what she'd say.

All she knew was now, in that moment, as her head was swimming with thoughts of Klaus and from the drinks, only one word left her lips.

"Yes."

"Ester," A ghostly voice spoke up, causing Ester to look up from her book.

Standing in front of her was a beautiful women, in about her mid to late thirties. She wasn't the tallest and had long, flowing brown hair with sparkling blue eyes as she wore an undated dress from the late 1800's.

"It's time." She said in an elegant voice as Ester nodded and stood up.

She was in her study in the basement of the house, so there was no windows, with the only light coming from the candles she had lit around the room.

Walking over to an old jewellery box, Ester lifted the cover and removed the bottom of the box, revealing a secret compartment with three small viles of red liquid, each with a different name on it.

Carefully picking up the viles, Ester walked over to the table in the middle of the room that had a piece of cloth sitting on top of it.

"Are you sure this well work, Ester?" The women asked, her voice holding a bit of worry.

"I've had years to practice the spell and research it," Ester said. "I'm positive this well work, Elizabeth."

The women, Elizabeth, nodded as she watched Ester open the small viles, pouring two on one side of the cloth and the last one on the other.

"The moment I start the spell and it works, you will vanish," She turned to Elizabeth, a small smile on your face. "I'm afraid this is it, old friend."

Elizabeth returned the smile. "You will watch out for them?"

"Of course," Ester nodded.

It was silent for a few moments as Elizabeth watched Ester lift a dragger and brought it to her hand. She wrapped her fingers around the blade, causing blood to drip. Ester quickly moved her hand over to the side of the cloth where she only poured one vile, two types of blood swirled together.

"And make sure you tell them how much i love them? And that I'm always watching over them?"

"You have my word," Ester promised, causing Elizabeth to give her a small smile.

"Then this is goodbye, Ester."

With one finally glance and smile as Elizabeth, Ester closed her eyes and took deep breath before reciting the spell.

Ester stayed like that for a while, until she felt a gust of wind and she knew, Elizabeth was gone.

Slowly, Ester opened her eyes and was met by blackness. Waving her hand, all the candles lite up once more.

Looking down at the cloth, Ester couldn't stop the smile that formed on her face.

The four types of blood that formed two swirls that were once on different sides of the cloth were now in the middle, knotted together.

It worked.

Suddenly, the door to the study flew opened, causing Ester to spin around.

There, standing in the door way, was a tall, lean man. He was handsome, with a pale complexion, angular jawline, deep, forest green eyes, a straight nose and a well-formed mouth along with short, dark blonde hair.

"I see Finn found you and gave you the message." Ester folded her arms neatly in front of her.

"He did," The old nodded, slowly walking into the studying. "And I believe there are a few things you need to explain."

Ester nodded. "Like?"

"Let's start with something easy," the man smirked, stepping into the candle light. "Like what has happened in the past two thousand years."
