After killing Yang and making everyone horribly depressed in TLB Ch.4, I figured I'd do something happier with her here instead.

Title: Pending Approval

Characters: Ruby, Yang, and Weiss.

Genre: Family, Humour.

Summary: Ruby and Weiss have been dating for a few weeks now, but Yang still doesn't know. Ruby has finally managed to work up the nerve to tell her sister and things go better than expected. Weiss would say that perhaps it went too well.

"Yang, I...I need to tell you something," came Ruby's voice from somewhere behind the couch Yang was lying on.

Lowering the magazine she was flipping through, Yang turned around to respond. "Sure, what's up lil sis?"

"It, it's. I'm... Um," stammered Ruby whilst fidgeting nervously. She could not quite seem to lift her eyes off the floor long enough to meet Yang's eyes.

Yang got a little worried seeing the uncharacteristically nervous expression from her little sister. It was something that she had grown out of over past couple of years as she had grown more confident in her abilities. "Ruby, are you okay? What is it?" Yang voiced her concern.

"It's, ah, Weiss," the smaller girl eventually managed to get out.

Yang frowned. "Did princess get mad at you again for something?" Not an unreasonable assumption. Although not as bad as they once were, it was something that usually happened at least once a month between the two. Sometimes multiple times a day. "Do you need me to talk to her for you?"

"No! No, that's alright," Ruby said immediately trying to convince her sister that wasn't necessary. When Yang said 'talk' sometimes she meant actual talking, and other times she meant something entirely different altogether. Especially if it involved somebody not getting along with Ruby. "No, Weiss and I are getting along just fine. Better than ever actually."

"Well that's good," said Yang eyeing Ruby oddly. What was it about Weiss that was making her act so oddly then if the heiress wasn't angry at her again for the umpteenth time? Yang waited patiently for Ruby to say what she wanted of her own accord rather than prompting her. Whatever it was she wanted to say, it was obviously something that was taking her a lot of effort to get out. Rushing her wouldn't help.

Ruby chewed on her lip as she tried to figure out how exactly she was supposed to tell her sister what she wanted to say. The truth was that she had been dating Weiss for several weeks now, but until now had not yet managed to work up the nerve to tell Yang.

She had never really felt any strong attractions to anyone until Weiss. Back at Signal Ruby had been asked out before by a couple of boys and unable to refuse she had obliged them on a couple of dates. Those kinds of kiddy relationships never lasted longer than a couple of weeks though. Though she had never felt any sort of attraction to those boys, and was a little uncomfortable if anything, it had still come as a great surprise to her when she had eventually realized just how deep her feelings ran for her female best friend. To be honest, Ruby still was not totally sure if she actually swung that way with regards to gender, or if it was just Weiss in particular that she liked. She was pretty sure she hadn't looked at girls any more closely than she had at boys, but that wasn't saying much.

Not that there was anything wrong with two girls liking each other of course, Ruby would never think that way. She wasn't quite naive enough though to not realize that there were others who would not think the same. That wasn't to say she thought Yang would be one of those people, her sister had never been particularly judgemental. Still, Yang was important to Ruby, and she wasn't sure she could handle it if her sister were to hate or be disappointed in her for her choice.

No matter how irrational her fear may have been it was still great enough that Ruby had nevertheless gone to Blake for help instead when she had needed help sorting out her feelings for Weiss. As per Blake's advice Ruby had confessed her feelings to the other girl which had luckily gone quite well. That meant however that Yang was the only one not in the loop, and her relationship was not something Ruby wanted to be hiding from her sister forever. Weiss had offered to tell Yang for her, but this was something Ruby felt that she had to do herself.

Taking a breath Ruby puffed herself up hoping that a firm and confident physical stance might translate to some actual confidence as well. Looking into her sister's eyes she spoke. "Weiss and I, we're," whatever momentary confidence Ruby may have found began to wane as she trailed off into a mumble. "We're kinda, maybe sort of..." Just barely managing to keep herself together Ruby forced out her last word. "...dating." Her voice now a whisper and eyes askew to the side, Ruby had her hands together as her index fingers poked against each other nervously.

"Okay."

A moment of silence. Ruby blinked.

"...Okay?" she asked surprised. Curiously a pair of silver eyes lifted themselves off the floor to meet purple. This was not the type of reaction she was expecting.

"Yeah. Okay." Yang had a perfectly calm expression on her face, as if Ruby had been commenting on the weather or something rather than coming out to her.

"You," Ruby started a little unsurely. "You're not mad?" Yang seemed to be taking things rather well. The rather underwhelming response to what she felt was one of the most important revelations she had made though threw Ruby for a bit of a loop which was not helping her nerves at all.

Yang's eyebrows raised slightly in surprise as she took in the sight of her little sister all shrunken in on herself as if expecting her to snap and explode at her any moment. The blonde sighed as she pushed herself off the couch, magazine forgotten. Walking around the couch to Ruby she pulled the smaller girl into a gentle hug.

"Now, why would I be mad?" Yang murmured softly stroking the back of Ruby's hair.

"Because, because-" sniffed Ruby into Yang's shoulder. She could feel her lips quivering a little, but there were thankfully not any tears yet.

"Because you're dating another girl? Or because you're dating Weiss in particular?" said Yang finishing Ruby's sentence for her. "Ruby, I don't care about any of that. You silly girl, you're my sister, and I love you. This changes nothing." Turning her head she laid it on top of Ruby's. "Boy, girl, you can date whoever you want. As long you're happy, I'm happy, okay?"

Cautiously Ruby pulled herself backwards and looked up at Yang's face. In contrast to one of her usual wide grins the older girl instead had a soft smile directed at her which she found rather comforting at the moment.

"And Weiss?" Ruby asked starting to feel a little more confident now that she had been reassured her sister didn't hate her.

"What about her?" Yang asked rhetorically with a trace of amusement creeping into her voice. "I know she and I don't always get along, but you should know after all this time that I like and trust Weiss just fine." With a finger Yang wiped away the traces of wetness under Ruby's eyes. "Weiss isn't always the nicest person, but she's loyal, and probably likes you more than she does anyone else. If she makes you happy, then that's good enough for me."

The tentative tugging at Ruby's lips finally won out as it broke out into a wide smile. She beamed up at her sister, the heavy feeling in her chest lifting now that she knew Yang approved of her girlfriend.

"I was kinda hoping to get to do the protective older sibling speech though," Yang pouted with a small frown as she stepped back from Ruby. One hand raised to her chin as she took on a mildly contemplative look. "I don't think I have to worry about Miss Prissy-Pants getting too handsy with you unlike some hormonal teenage boy. If anything, she's always complaining about how you are the one who is always invading her personal space." Her lips turned into a smirk. "Should I be giving you the talk on Weiss's behalf about where it is or is not appropriate to touch?" Yang teased.

"Hey! I- you- do not- Yang!" Ruby sputtered indignantly, unable to form a sentence and quickly growing red in the face. Her previous smile was gone now as Ruby tried to express her displeasure to Yang.

Continuing heedless of Ruby's embarrassed sputtering Yang mused to herself, "I mean, I could threaten her anyway, but I kind of already did that."

Ruby stopped her previous completely ignored diatribe to stare flatly at Yang. "What."

"Oh, not about this specifically," Yang waved at her absently. "I mean, I suspected, but I wasn't sure until you came and said it just now. It was way back, not long after we became a team. Since Weiss was your partner, I told her that if you ever got hurt because of her, I would rearrange her face," Yang smiled at Ruby who was now looking a little incredulously at her. "Weiss is a smart girl though, I'm sure she can figure out that that just goes double for this kind of partnership."

"Well, you'd better not threaten Weiss again!" Ruby exclaimed puffing up her cheeks with her hands on her hips. "Things are going pretty well right now. I don't need you butting in being all overprotective!"

"Oh relax," said Yang rolling her eyes. "You don't need to worry about me. Although..." she continued trailing off. "Nora was actually there when I threatened Weiss that first time. I'm still not sure why, but she was up a nearby tree. She offered some help of the leg-breaking kind." The two shared a moment of silence over their energetic friend's violent tendencies. "To this day, I think she's still a little bummed about Cardin's continued ability to walk."

After that, Ruby wasn't really sure what to say, nor did Yang seem to have anything to contribute. Rather coincidentally though with some perfect timing, the subject of their previous discussion showed up. Seeing Weiss walk into the room Yang gained a rather mischievous look on her face that Ruby did not like at all.

"Hey Weiss!" Yang greeted cheerfully. "Ruby just told me the most interesting thing!"

"Oh?" Weiss asked. "And what would that be?"

"That you're gonna be my new little sister-in-law soon!" cheered the blonde.

Stunned silence filled the room for a moment as Ruby and Weiss were both robbed of any words. Yang just beamed at them both.

A strangled noise escaped from Weiss's throat. "What?" Tearing her eyes off of Yang she turned to look at her girlfriend instead, glaring. "Ruby! What did you say!" she demanded angrily. The only response she received was the darker haired girl lowering her face into her hands.

"Now now Weiss," chided Yang. "There's no need to be embarrassed. I have no problems with your relationship to Ruby. Now, come give your new big sis a hug!" Opening her arms she stepped forward in an attempt to capture the flustered heiress within them, but missed as Weiss managed to duck to the side.

"No! Yang, stop!" Weiss cried in dismay as she dodged another lunge. "Ruby, stop your crazy sister!" Soon Weiss found herself backed up against the couch with Yang quickly closing in and very little room to run. "If you want a hug, I'll give you a hug. A tight two handed hug right around your neck," she threatened in an attempt to ward off her teammate.

"Just stand still new lil sis. I'm trying to welcome you to the family," said Yang ignoring the threat of strangulation. "Stand still, and LET ME LOVE YOU!" she howled leaping at the smaller girl.

Weiss stuck her hands out feebly trying to stop Yang, but it was for naught. The collision sent the both of them over the back of the couch, landing upon the seat on the other side. Yang had her arms around Weiss in a crushing embrace with a rather gleeful expression. The snowy haired girl on the other hand looked less than enthused about her position, struggling to get out of her newly self declared big sister's grip.

"Get off of me!" Weiss cried. Both her arms were pinned to her sides courtesy of Yang's vice like hold around her. With Yang on top of her, her arms bound, and the squishy couch beneath them she had no leverage at all, utterly helpless to the playful assault. "Ruby! Help!"

Her cries for help went unheeded though as Ruby was still cradling her face within her hands, shaking her head back and forth slowly. She ignored the sounds of her girlfriend and her sister in the background. This certainly was not quite how she had expected the day going, but it wasn't a bad result at all. Weiss really wouldn't be happy about it, but Ruby figured she would just let Yang work this out of her system now. Better over enthusiastic about their relationship than under enthused. This would probably come with the rather unfortunate side effect of endless amounts of teasing at their expense though.
