You've Got a Girl at Home

Chapter 10 – You Are the Best Thing That's Ever Been Mine (Epilogue)

It was a beautiful evening in May. The sky was clear and the moon was full, underneath a large gazebo in the backyard of the Burrow there was a huge celebration.

Music played, people danced, laughter filled the air. It had been nearly 4 years since the end of the war and Harry really had moved on from it now. He was sitting on the roof with two of his closest friends, they probably shouldn't have climbed out of Ron's window after so many drinks but it gave them the best view.

"I'm so happy."

Ron glanced over at his best friend and smiled, "I can see that mate."

Neville smiled from Harry's other side, "You should be down there with her, not up here smoking with us."

"It's a tradition," Harry said with a grin, "We always share cigars in an isolated place when we're each other's best men. We did it at both of your weddings."

"We weren't on the roof at my wedding," Neville pointed out.

"Or mine," Ron chortled.

Harry laughed and looked down, "Well I like the view from up here, the sky is full of stars, the moon is bright and this is the happiest night of my life."

"Holy shit, Susan really has made you go soft," Ron snorted.

Harry didn't deny it, he could see Susan looking around for him down below in the garden. When she looked up and saw the three of them she shook her head, "Harry Potter, get your arse down here and dance with your wife!"

Neville sniggered, "I think you better do as the woman says."

Harry laughed, "Yeah, I reckon you're right," he said as he climbed back into Ron's bedroom. He left his two friends finishing their cigars and darted through the house to avoid the wrath of his new wife.

In the kitchen he was congratulated for the umpteenth time by his very drunk team-mates, all these years on he was still playing for Appleby and they were now beating the Cannons, much to Ron's chagrin.

"Hey, it's the groom!" Dan cheered as he patted Harry on the back. The rest of the team joined in but Harry was so quick and light he managed to dart underneath them before he could be crushed. He was shaking his head in amusement as he stepped out into the garden and glanced around to find Susan, she was waiting for him under the gazebo.

"Where were you smoking your disgusting cigars this time?"

"Hello to you too Hermione," Harry said in amusement as his best friend fell in line with him.

Hermione raised an eyebrow at him, "Let me guess, Ron's bedroom?"

"The roof actually," Harry said, "But we got there through Ron's room so I guess that makes you right. Where's Rosie?"

"With Molly," Hermione replied, "I thought I would take a walk, Ron is doing his best to get me drunk tonight."

Harry snorted, "Not that it takes much."

Hermione shot him a glare but he could tell that her heart wasn't really in it, "I'm proud of you Harry. Have I told you that yet today?"

"Not today but you tell me often enough," Harry said with a genuine smile.

Hermione smiled back, "Susan was the best thing to ever happen to you."

Harry chuckled, "Don't tell her that," he mumbled as they reached the gazebo, "Her ego couldn't take anymore inflating."

Hermione laughed quietly and kissed him on the cheek, "I'll talk to you later. I better go and find my daughter and my wayward husband."

"Good luck with that," Susan said with an amused smile as Hermione disappeared.

"Hey love," Harry said as he greeted her with a kiss.

"You stink."

"It's tradition."

"Your tradition stinks," Susan said as she cast a charm to remove the smell.

"Sorry," Harry said as he placed another soft kiss on her lips, "Have I told you that you look beautiful tonight?"

"Yes, several times," Susan said with a smile, "If I didn't know better, I would say you were drunk."

"The only thing I can be drunk on these days is your love," Harry teased.

"Are you trying to make me vomit?" Susan asked in amusement.

Harry barked out a laugh as he let Susan lead him back under the gazebo. A slow song was just coming to an end when they arrived, the master of ceremonies then said, "And now, grab that special kid in your life for a dance."

"Sorry Suse, I owe this dance to Ted," Harry joked as the 4-year-old darted towards them. However, it wasn't Harry that he was running towards, "Can we dance Mum?"

Susan shot Harry an amused look, "Do you?" she mumbled in amusement.

Harry just laughed as Susan grabbed Teddy's hands, "Course we can honey."

Harry smiled as the two of them took to the dance floor. Susan wasn't his Mum any more than Harry was his Dad, but Harry had adopted his Godson when he was a year old. He had tried to teach the young boy that he and Susan weren't his parents but he had been relentless when he was learning to talk so they had become Mum and Dad as far as he was concerned.

His heart swelled with joy and pride as he watched the two people he loved more than anything else, dancing together. They weren't the only ones either, Ron was dancing with his 2-year-old daughter Rosie and Daphne was dancing with her 3-year-old son Scorpius. Much like Harry, Hermione and Draco watched their other halves and their children with that same joyous look.

So much had changed since those dark days after the war. Harry was finally happy, more than that, he was ecstatically happy. This was how he had expected to feel after the war, it had just taken a little longer than he had expected to get back to being the man he wanted to be. He had married the woman of his dreams earlier that day and he was surrounded by his family. He was at the only place other than Hogwarts he had always known as home and all of the Weasley's were here, even Ginny. She had moved on and was dating her old flame Michael Corner, they would never be as close as they had once been but they had eventually managed to salvage their friendship from the wreckage of their relationship.

As the song came to an end, Teddy released Susan and ran over to the woman he knew as a Grandmother, Molly. Susan dragged Harry onto the dancefloor as a love song began to play and he happily held her close to him.

"I love you," Harry whispered in her ear, "So much."

"I love you too," Susan said, "But I still can't believe I married an Appleby player. My Aunt will be turning in her grave."

Harry chuckled, he spun her around and brought her close to him again, "I will have you know, I turned that team around," he said as he kissed her softly.

"I know," Susan murmured into the kiss, "You're better than the Wasps now, you bastard."

"Hey, I'm your bastard now," Harry joked.

Susan laughed and as the song came to an end, she said she needed something to drink. After all, dancing and entertaining all night was hard work. The two of them walked over to the open bar, neither of them drank alcohol anymore. Harry hadn't touched it since he got sober and Susan had stopped drinking when she moved in with him. Harry had told her that she didn't need to but she did it out of curtesy to him and he loved her all the more for it.

"Harry!" A familiar voice called out when they reached the bar.

Harry grinned as he turned to the man, "Viktor, hey! I wasn't sure if you would make it or not, trust the new Mrs. Potter to want to get married in the middle of Quidditch season, eh?"

Susan whacked Harry playfully over the head for that comment.

Viktor Krum laughed, "I was playing France this afternoon but I got here as soon as the match finished."

"We had to forfeit our game against the Wasps because the team didn't want to miss me getting hitched," Harry said as he shot Susan a grin, "It's almost like my wife who by coincidence is a massive Wasps fan, planned it."

Susan just smiled sweetly, "Me? As if."

Harry shook his head and turned back to Krum, "I'm glad you came."

Krum smiled, "The wedding of a fellow champion, I wouldn't miss it for the world."

Harry appreciated that, "This is my wife, Mrs. Susan Potter," he said proudly, he was going to get a kick out of introducing her like that for a good while.

"Pleasure to meet you," Krum said as he shook her hand.

"You too," Susan said politely.

"Let me buy you a drink Harry, firewhiskey?" Krum asked cheerfully.

"No thanks," Harry said with a shake of his head, "Haven't touched the stuff for years."

Krum smiled and patted Harry on the back, "Hey, good for you! Is Hermione here? I would love to catch up."

"Yeah she's just over there with her daughter," Harry said as he pointed her out.

Krum left to talk to his old flame and Harry smirked at Susan, "Ron's going to love that."

"Oh shut up, you get off on drama," Susan said with an amused smile, "You're such a woman."

"Hey, you married me," Harry pointed out.

Susan just smiled, "I know, I'm impressed with how you handled that by the way."

Harry scoffed, "Oh you know that I'm well past that now. I don't need alcohol to make me happy, I have you and Teddy, and the best friends and team in the world."

Susan's smile seemed to be glued on, Harry knew how she felt, "You're the cheesiest person I know but I love you for it."

"Would you two get a room?" Daphne joked, "Some of us want to use this bar to order alcohol."

"Yeah, make eyesex somewhere else," Draco added as he put his arms around Daphne, "Get a me a drink love."

"Pumpkin juice or soda?"

"Soda," Draco replied with ease.

"Make that three," Harry said to the bartender as he wrapped his arm around Susan.

"Look at the two of us," Draco said with a slight smile, "Ordering soda's, dancing with our kids and hugging our wives. When did we get old and boring?"

"I can't speak for you but for me, it was when I fell in love with my therapist," Harry said as he caught Susan's eye.

Susan smiled at his comment but Ron picked that moment to ruin the moment by barging in with, "I'm sure I've seen that porno. Two large firewhiskeys bartender!"

Susan rolled her eyes, "If you and Hermione don't go easy, baby number 2 will be getting conceived tonight."

"Hey, that's not such a bad idea!" Ron said as he grabbed the drinks and went back to his wife.

Harry chuckled and tightened his grip on Susan, "I always knew those two wouldn't stop at one."

"Tons of kids kind of run in the family," Susan pointed out as she looked at all the redheads under the gazebo tonight.

"And Ron always wanted a big family," Harry added, "So did I once upon a time but then I took a very good therapist's advice."

Susan raised an eyebrow at him, "And what did this therapist tell you?"

"To take every day at a time," Harry said with a smile, "Not to expect anything of my future but see where life took me instead."

"Well," Susan said with a slight smile, "What if I told you that life was taking you in the direction of a family of four?"

Harry's eyes widened, "Wait…what?"

Susan smiled fondly at his cluelessness, "You never change Harry."

Harry looked her in the eye, "Suse, are you saying what I think you're saying?"

Susan grinned, "I'm pregnant, due around Christmas time."

Harry's face broke out into a grin, "Really? That's amazing! Does anyone else know yet?"

"Daphne obviously and…well Hermione was the healer I saw so…"

Harry rolled his eyes, "So that's why she's been acting so funny for the past couple of weeks!"

Susan laughed, "Sorry," she said sheepishly.

Harry shook his head, he was still smiling, "Don't be sorry, I can't wait Suse. You have made me the happiest guy alive, you, Ted and now this baby…it's perfect."

Susan beamed at him and Harry noticed for the first time that she did have a radiant glow about her. All day long everyone had commented on her beautiful dress but all Harry saw every time he looked at her was the yellow ribbon in her hair and every time, it made him smile.

THE END! 😊

A/N: And thus the rewrite of this story commences. UP NEXT: Skeletons! That could be fun because I got more hate for that fanfiction than any other I have ever written but I'll attempt it anyway!
