Chapter 13
Tony, Dean and Sam enter Tony's apartment to help the eldest of the three to calm down, and so they can plan how, exactly, they are going to talk to and summon Crowley. 'Why did you let Walt go?' Tony shrugs at Dean's question.
'Why shouldn't I have?'
'He killed us.'
'You're still here.' Tony counters tossing his keys on the sideboard. He throws himself into his favourite chair. He sighs. 'Walt won't leave the States. He'll be too scared that the airports, ports and border control will have his picture and will report to us that he's left.' Sam smirks, Tony frowns at him.
'So he won't leave the mainland. What next?'
'The phone call I made.'
'What about it.' Dean snaps at his big brother. Tony just sends a glare at him. 'It was to a shop that owes me a-'
'Few favours.' Sam and Dean chorus rolling their eyes. 'How many people owe you favours?' Dean asks.
'About as many as I owe people. Connections, my brothers. Connections make the world turn.'
'I thought that was love.' Sam smirks
'Love helps it turn.' Tony concedes. 'Any way the shop sells small GPS tracking devices for federal services, suspicious wives and overprotective mothers.' All three Winchesters smirk. 'One of them was waiting outside the courtroom; I just let him know that the guy, who ran out of there like a bat out of hell was the guy, I want to track. They'll monitor the feeds and give me updates every so often.'
'And make him crazy by ringing him up and staying silent on the phone.'
'Not that exactly. But definitely something similar.' Tony rises from his chair. 'After all, it would be no fun if he didn't know it was me ringing would it?' Dean concedes the point as the eldest of the three disappears into the kitchen.
'Where are we sleeping?' He mouths to the youngest.
'Sam! There's an airbed in the cupboard by my bedroom door. Dean, the sofa's long enough for you.' Tony yells. Sam and Dean exchange grimaces as Tony gets in again with a perfectly timed comment for the umpteenth time in their lives.
'Freaky.' Sam mutters quietly.
'Must have learnt it from Gibbs. Marine Sniper and all.' The two Winchesters share a significant glance before Sam goes to the cupboard door and retrieves the air bed along with two sets of sheets. Dean holds up two fingers in question.
'If you don't want a cover when you sleep then I'll put a set back.' Sam grins. Dean glances behind his little brother to see his older brother standing behind them grinning ear to ear.
'Shut up.' He mutters grabbing a set and stuffing it under the coffee table, the couch being needed to sit on.
'Dinner in about twenty minutes guys.' Sam and Dean nod.'
'Proper food for once.' Sam mutters and receives a head slap from each of his brothers. 'Hey.'
'Nothing wrong with diner food.' Dean says.
'Don't disrespect family.' Tony adds.
'I wasn't.' Sam protests.
'Dean and Dad did what they could. It's not easy to cook in motel rooms.'
'Dad barely cooked.'
'He did his best.' Tony repeats signalling that the conversation is closed. Sam shrugs.
'Where am I setting this up?'
'My room.' Sam nods and heads back into the room just as a knock sounds at the door. Tony indicates for Dean to open the door and he, himself, disappears back into the kitchen.
'Tony here?' Gibbs asks as soon as the door is partially open.
'Course.' Dean answers acerbically. 'He's not really letting us out of his sight.'
'Tony is a smart man.' Gibbs looks at the middle Campbell child. 'He tell you about Director Eli David?'
'The would be Ziva's father? About how he persuaded the man to admit that he sent someone to emotionally hurt Tony's partner?' Dean steps back to let Gibbs into the flat. 'Yeah, he did.' The team lead rolls his eyes and sends a glare his way.
'Hey Boss.' Tony greets Gibbs as he comes out of the kitchen this time laden with two plates of food. And gives one to Dean.
'You said twenty minutes.'
'I lied. Deal with it.' Tony turns his head. 'Sam. Food.'
'Coming.'
'You staying to eat boss?'
'May as well.' Tony hands the other plate to Gibbs and heads back to the kitchen. Sam emerges from the bedroom and stretches out on the floor. Tony comes back again laden with food and gives a plate to the youngest in the room before settling down next to him.
'The chair, Tony.' Gibbs states. Tony looks up and shrugs.
'And? Floor's just as comfy.'
'I remind you of that when you complain at the next stakeout.'
'Seriously Gibbs, feel this carpet.' The four men eat Tony's spaghetti carbonara in companionable silence. Sam watches Dean as he watches Gibbs out of the corner of his eye.
'You didn't seem too surprised about the demons smoking out.'
'And?' Gibbs enquires to Dean's statement.
'Jus' wondered.'
'He's come across stuff like this before.'
'Demons?' Sam asks.
'Spirits. Three specifically.'
'Why three?'
'One vengeful and two protecting.' Tony tells them.
'Two versus one. They should have stopped it. Been in heaven most that time. One of the pair was a child.'
'Child spirits can be the strongest.' Sam says.
'That's why she was stopping the vengeful spirit from obliterating him in the first place. While the other was the last defence.'
'Who were they?' Tony looks at Gibbs and asks a silent question. He receives a silent reply in the affirmative.
'His murdered wife and daughter. She was eight years old.'
'And the vengeful spirit?'
'Pedro Hernandez. The man who killed them.'
'Go on Tony.' Sam urges gently. Gibbs gives him a quiet nod.
'Gibbs rang me as soon as he heard the thumps from the top floor. I got there and Shannon revealed herself. I nearly shot her full of rock salt. But as soon as Gibbs saw her he stopped me.'
'Damn surprised to see him turn up with salt, water, shotguns and silver bullets.'
'Where's your stuff?'
'Dad had a lock up not far from here. I got the one next to him for my stuff.'
'And his overflowed into yours?'
'Got it in one. On the understanding, I could use the arsenal as and when I wanted or needed to.'
'Any way…'
'I managed to communicate with Shannon who told me the story.'
'Still don't understand who you understood that crap.' Sam and Dean look to Tony in confusion.
'EVP. He'd gone down to the basement. Shannon sent him there.'
'If he and her couldn't communicate-'
'Gestures say just as much as words do. Shannon summoned Kelly down as I went up and the pair guarded the stairs. turned out there had been a ring that was slipped into Gibbs' pocket that the bastard had latched on to. I managed to destroy it and the girls went back to heaven after saying goodbye properly.' Gibbs stares sourly and stares straight ahead at the wall. Sam and Dean stare at Tony shocked.
'Shit.' Dean mutters quietly after a while.
'Yeah.' Gibbs replies dolefully. 'Shit.'
