Naru's POV

It had been a few days since the case at the abandoned mansion where Mai had been possessed and kissed me and every time my mind drifted it went back to the feel of her soft lips pressed against mine. I sighed and stood up turning to look out of the window, my mind going over how much Mai had changed since I first hired her.

Throughout the past two years she had grown in confidence and mastered the ability to control her supernatural abilities both during consciousness and unconsciousness. She had also changed in appearance with her brown hair reaching her shoulders and both her face and body maturing into a young woman's making it so she attracted the attention of the opposite sex more often. I thought back to a case where I had caught the client's eldest son asking Mai out before we left, I had been looking for her at the time and curious to her reaction I remained hidden. At the time I felt amused through watching Mai become flustered as she sought out a way to turn him down without hurting him but now looking back at the memory it feels like a fire has been lit in my chest and all I can think of is punching the guy in his face.

I shake my head, why would I be angry at the thought of someone asking Mai out?

After all I have no claim over her and odds are that one day she would be walking down the aisle to her future husband. Suddenly the image of Mai walking down the aisle to a faceless stranger appears in my head like an unwelcomed weed in a garden of flowers causing the fire in my chest to roar and burn harder.

I stepped back and grasped at my chair, turning it round and collapsing into it. For a moment I sat there as the realization sunk into my brain, I loved Mai and not in a kind of friendly protective kind of way. I loved her in the way you do when you want to marry someone.

A knock at the door broke me away from my thoughts and I hoarsely shouted them to come in.

"Naru I have your tea" Mai said as she balanced the tray whilst opening the door

"Just leave it on my desk" I answer, not turning round "And can you finish your report for the last case as I need to file it with the others as soon as"

"Right way boss" she replies sarcastically, placing the tray on the desk before leaving

I lean forwards and put my face in my hands, what do I do now?

Hi guys

So its been a while...

Please don't kill me.

Last time I updated this story I was in my last year of college and I was 18. Now I am 20 and Ive just finished my second year of uni. That is quite a time skip and trust me when I say this but I did it to all the ongoing stories I have on my account and I am so sorry for it but back then I thought I would be able to continue writing whilst doing uni and then I found myself under a mountain of work before I could even blink (not to mention the fact my course does field trips aswell). So due to a review that recently occurred on this story I decided to come back to my account and try to finish the active stories rather than letting them go to waste (surprisingly the first ever story I started writing on this account (the past becomes the present: doctor who fanfic) is still on going and because I dont plan ahead on my stories I have no idea where it is going or when it is going to stop) I cant grantee regular updates but so long as my stories have fans (even if they are in the small numbers) I will try to finish my stories for them.

In other news I have started kinda writing a story with original characters and stuff but kinda with a similar theme to sword art online (google it if you dont know it as if you ask me to explain it I can go on for days about it) where the lines between vidya and real life become blurred but i'm not quite ready to share that with the internet just yet but maybe one day.

Anyhow I hope you enjoy this chapter as its kinda just a plot kicker to get it going as with the previous chapters being a set up for the whole plot but hopefully the next chapter will bring on the good bits. 3
