Sometimes the heart sees what is invisible to the eye. ~ H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Shepard's Omni-Tool lite up, her mother was calling to make sure she made it all right.

Sara brought up the video, "Hi mom."

Hannah was in the crew quarter, " Hi honey. How are you doing? Your father said all travels are suspended due to the solar flares."

" I am fine. Yah, we got a message saying we are grounded until further notice."

Hannah gave her a questioning look, " We? Who is we?"

She didn't even think about it, " Oh! A friend I made. His shuttle was also cancelled."

Hannah was pleased that her daughter at least had someone to spend the time with, "Where is this friend? Can I meet him?"

Shepard did not want her mom grilling the poor boy or find out that her last name was Shepard.

She looked at Kaidan who was still busy looking through the posters and oblivious to the conversation.

Thanfully , a crewman walked in and saluted her mother, " Ma'am the commander would like to speak with you ASAP."

Shepard was grateful for the timing and took the chance to say goodbye, "You better go mom. Don't worry about me and we will talk soon."

Hannah gave a defeated sight, "All right, you win this time. Call me when you get word on when the shuttles will arrive. Be carful honey, don't wander off there are dangerous gangs in the lower Wards. I will reserve a room for you now the solar flares usually last up to 24 hours if not longer"

Shepard was eager to end the conversation. She blew her mom a kiss, " Love you."

Before her mom could finish saying goodbye, Shepard ended the call.

She walked over to Kaidan and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder to get his attention, " Hey, my mom is reserving me a room in the towers…I should check in."

Kaidan straightened up at her touch; he was surprised how warm and comforting an innocent touch can be. " Yah. I will come with, I should get a room and put my stuff there."

With that, they walked toe to toe to the hotel.

The towers were beautiful; it was the only hotel in the station. The front door opened and they walked up to the receptionist.

The women greeted them warmly, " Welcome to the Towers. Checking in?"

Shepard sat her bag down by her feet, " Yes."

The women pointed to a kiosk on the right, " Right over there."

Kaidan rested his arms on the counter, " I don't have a reservation, but I would like a room"

The receptionist gave him an apologetic look, " I am sorry, but we are completely booked."

Shepard was surprised and looked up from the kiosk, " That can't be possible. I have been here many times and there is always a lot of room available. Plus my mom just reserved a room for me fifteen minutes ago"

The women kept her friendly smile and nodded her head, " Yes. That is normally the case, but with the antique show on the station. We are booked solid."

Kaidan was disappointed. Nobody knew how long he would be stuck here, and not having a room for the night was troubling, " I see. Is there another hotel around here?"

The receptionist happily replied, " I am afraid not. We are the only hotels on the station."

Shepard saw the disappointment on her friends look; she wanted to ease his mind by offering a solution. " Hey don't worry. You can share my room."

She saw the shock and surprise on Kaidan's face. She quickly regretted her offer. She wanted to help, but offering to share her room may not be the best idea she had. Way to go, mom will be so proud of me inviting a stranger to my room.

Kaidan did not know how to respond, " I uh…"

Shepard went to rescue mode, " You can put your stuff there, and if we are here overnight you can sleep on the couch. It's a big room…it's not like I need both the bed and the couch." Good. There is no way he can misinterpret your intentions now. God I really hope he is not a pshyco that will murder me in my sleep.

The receptionist quickly interjected, wanting to help. " Yes! That's a great idea. The couch is a pull out bed. I will ask our staff to send over extra sheet, pillow, and towels."

Kaidan was grateful for her offer. He was not use to this kind of kindness from strangers. He was grateful that she trusted him enough to share her room, especially after knowing each other for only 4 hours.

Kaidan rubbed the back of his neck, " Are you sure? You don't owe me anything."

Shepard waved her hand, " Of course I am sure. Just don't steal any of the complimentary chocolates. They are imported from earth you know"

Kaidan laughed in relief, " Deal! I think I can resist the chocolate. "

They both headed over to the elevator and punched in her floor. The elevator was slow, being in tight quarters with Kaidan made Shepard sweat. There was no denying that she was attracted to him. but that was it. She was not interested in any romance, or relationship with him. She liked him, and she told herself only as a friend, an attractive friend.

Kaidan was not immune to her proximity either. She was close enough for him to smell the sweet floral perfume that was radiating off her body. Her smell was intoxicating. Kaidan quickly had to remind himself of certain promises. After Brain Camp, Kaidan was devastated and lost. It took him several years to decide to go back to the alliance. He promised himself to be the best Marine he could be, and never again to be distracted by another Rahna. He knew he had to prove himself, and he vowed to always follow regulation to the T in order to remain disciplined.

The elevator door opened and Shepard quickly found her room on the right.

The suit was huge; it was more like a honeymoon suit. The room was decorated with style and sophistication. Fresh flowers were placed in the bedroom and living quarters. The bathroom was fairly a large size, with a huge Jacuzzi.

Kaidan exclaimed, " Wow! It's a big place, bigger than my entire flat back on earth."

Her Omni-Tool rang, Alice was calling her to check up on her and deliver good news. Shepard quickly pulled up the video call and was greeted by Alice's usual big smile.

"Hey Flames. How is life on the big ship?" Alice said vibrantly, she noticed that the background did not look like any ship she knew and was quickly distracted by the handsome figure standing behind Shepard. " Who is the cutie? He looks good enough to eat…and where are you by the way"

Kaidan pretended that he did not hear the compliment.

Shepard quickly interjected her, hoping to stop Alice from saying anything that would further embarrass her.

" Hey, Oh that is a FRIEND that I met here on the station."

Alice did not buy her story, Sara was trying too hard to steer the conversation. Alice went about her mischievous ways " Well I want to see this friend and say hi."

Sara winced at the idea but obligied her friend's request.

Sara went up to Kaidan so Alice can have a better view of him, but not before warning Alice. " No interrogation please, he is just a friend."

Alice laughed, "Me thinks the lady protests too much."

Shepard was starting to sweat a little, " Al right…we can't all be you, you leave for vacation and you come back with stories fit for a romance novel."

Alice laughed, "What can I say, my life is one giant adventure. You're the one to talk. You have left plenty of heartbreaks yourself."

Shepard laughed, " By heartbreaks you mean the four year old boy who insisted that I was his girlfriend to his parents..?"

Shepard went to introduce them and told her to hush.

"Kaidan, this is my best and nosey friend Alice."

Kaidan gave Alice a hello wave and shot her a sweet smile, " Hi. It is a pleasure to meet you."

Alice was loving the view, she knew why Sara was all flustered at the mention of him. The boy was hot to say the very least. Alice batted her eyelashes, " The pleasure is all mine. I can definitely see why Sara wants to hide you. I don't blame her for wanting to keep you all to herself"

That comment made Sara blush from head to toe. She protested while looking at Alice, " I am not hiding him. I do not intend to keep him…" I am going to kill you Alice.

Alice was giddy beyond words. It was nice to see her friend be on the receiving end of teasing.

Kaidan shifted uncomfortably by Alice's forwardness.

Alice directed her attention to Kaidan, "you must be something special to get Sara worked up. She is always like a rock, a woman of steel. Well whatever you are doing, keep it up. I can have fun with this for weeks. "

Sara had enough of her teasing; she was going to end it before she died of blushing.

She stepped away from Kaidan, far enough that he could not hear anything else. "Ok, I hope you had fun, because I am going to kill you once I come back."

Alice knew when to stop; she did not want to get on Sara's bad side. However, she gave her one last push.

"He is cute. You should get his number."

Sara let out a disappointed sigh, " First of all, he is not interested. Secondly, he is serving on my dad's ship, and most importantly I am going to basics soon."

Alice rolled her eyes, " One, if his blushing was any indication, then I would say he is very interested. Two, your dad does not need to know, and third, so what? Even a soldier deserves a love life. Speaking of…I have really exciting news! I got a letter from MIT. I got accepted."

Sara saw that Alice could hardly contain herself with excitement. It was damn contagious. Shepard screamed with excitement, "Oh my god! I told you so!"

Alice was laughing, " I know, I should listen to you more often." Shepard snorted, " That's the truth." Sara was genuinely happy for her friend, but another part of her was devastated. She was going to loose her best friend. They grew up together, she was the one person that she could count on.
