It was a bit strange writing Fleur but oh well.

Envy or Pity

We had been hoping to be chosen for weeks and weeks! How could that little boy have been chosen? It was not fair. He had not even tried! He had simply got in.

The glory of participating in the Triwizard Tournament was an honour, the glory that came with participating, the possibility of winning.

He had not tried. He did not even look like he would be able to complete the first task. He was so tiny, only a child! How could they allow him to participate? Surely the Ministry of Magic had done something to prevent this kind of thing from happening!

Fleur's thoughts flew as she watched the professors and ministry officials argue and question the boy who looked surprised at being chosen. Even she could see that he had not put his name into the Goblet, that much was obvious.

A quick glance at the headmistress told her that the arguing would be useless. There was nothing to do about the situation. Either that or no one would do anything about letting an underage student participate.

It was not fair. If only they would not let the boy participate.

It would make more than one person happy.

That little boy!

How was it possible that he had managed to get past that dragon so easily! Far more easily than it had seemed despite the fact that he had been forced to face a more fierce dragon. I had been training for months previous in the hopes that I would get selected and bring honour to my family and Academy, yet I had still been beaten by a child at least two years my junior with close to no practice.

I wished I had his power. I had intelligence but limited power as such I had to use my magic wisely or risk loosing control of my veela. He was obviously of only mediocre intelligence but it was obvious that it was not entirely necessary to have intelligence if you had enough power to back you up.

It simply was not fair.

I had hoped that the danger of the first task would have forced the Ministry to do something in attempt to stop the child from having to face the dragon, especially when the dragon he faced had been the most protective! They had all stood by and watched, with not a care. Almost as if they expected him to come out of the fight without severe injuries.

The child himself had only reacted with resignation, almost as if these things happened all the time.

Fleur narrowed her eyes.

He was too young to face these kinds of situations like he had done or even react to danger like he did. Most his age would have run away already in fear not fight back. It was almost like it had been trained into him from experience.

She would find out more about this boy.

Harry Potter.

That was who the fourth champion was.

She had heard the name but not made the connections until her recent research.

That explained a lot. Why he reacted how he did, why no one had bothered to try and do anything about his participation in the tournament. It explained everything.

It also made her realize that there was no need to envy the boy and how he managed to get into the tournament so easily.

That was something there was no need to envy.

No, it was better if she remained as she was.

She would never wish to swap her life for his just to have the amount of magic he did.

Just the thought made her shudder.

No.

She would not envy Harry Potter.

She would pity him.
