Spoiler to chapter 334. Gray-sama's final thoughts.

Three words. That's all he wanted to say to her. Just three little words. He tried to speak but only blood would come out from his mouth.

As his body was pierced by more beams, he couldn't feel the pain anymore. He couldn't hear Lyon calling him a fool. He couldn't taste the blood flowing from his mouth. All he could see was Juvia, her eyes full of distress. But she was not hurt and that was all that mattered.

His mind suddenly filled with memory of Juvia. The first time he met Juvia. The first time he held her hand. The first time she made him a bento. Their first mission together. The first time he held her in his arms. And the first time he realized that she was more than just a friend.

At the same time, however, he couldn't help but feel bitter. They would never have anymore first with each other. He would never experience their first kiss, their first time, their first child.

If only he had more time to tell her three words. Those three words she has been dying to hear. As his body fell backwards, he looked towards her one more time. Maybe she already knew how he felt about her. Maybe his actions had already said everything he needed to.

"Juvia"… He moved his lips, unsure whether or not words were coming out… "I love you."

His body hit the ground as he died, never knowing if Juvia heard him.
