An alternate take on season 4 episode 20 where Ryder chooses differently when faced with the choice between Katie and Kitty.

The Road Not Taken

"She's a projection."

"Actual fantasy."

"I was really starting to like you."

Ryder sat in front of the computer, staring at it. Kitty had just left after making some very valid points. He couldn't deny that he had a major crush on Kitty and the idea of her truly reciprocating was incredible.

But he had so much in common with Katie, or whatever she was really called. Then Kitty's words echoed in his ears.

"She's whatever you want her to be."

Suddenly a text box flashed up on the screen, it was from 'Katie'. Right there and then he made his choice.

He shut down the chat box and logged out of the computer. He set off running in the direction Kitty had gone, hoping to catch up, stopping only to snatch up his bag.

Ryder tore out of the library and into the corridor. He looked around frantically for Kitty. He couldn't see her anywhere, her blonde hair or the red of the chairleading uniform.

Ryder sighed and was about to give up when a voice came from behind him.

"Looking for someone."

Ryder spun around, it was Kitty.

"You are right," said Ryder.

"I know," replied Kitty, "I usually am."

"I've been so wrapped up the whole Katie thing that I've kinda lost touch with real life," continued Ryder, "I really, really like you and I've been an idiot."

Kitty smiled, "You'd better be glad that I like like you enough to give you a second chance."

Ryder grinned widely and said, "So, Subway diet?"

"Only if you're paying," replied Kitty.

"Totally," confirmed Ryder.

"Good," said Kitty and kissed Ryder on the cheek softly.

Ryder smiled broadly as he placed an arm around Kitty's shoulder, the two setting off walking.

"So? 'Actual fantasy'?" teased Ryder, earning him a half-hearted punch and a laugh from Kitty.
