Chapter 19- Kendo Tournament Part II

"START!" Gildarts yelled,gave the girls the sign and stepped out of the way...
"GO ERZA!" Natsu yelled.
"Be quiet" Laxus muttered.
Erza initiated the fight. In a sliding movement,she placed herself close to Ikaruga and their blades clashed.
Lucy started to watch the game with utmost interest...
She saw the blades tapping each other in mid-air a couple of times and realized that they were just testing each other out.
Lucy turned to Jellal,who had a big smirk on his face.
Jellal was observing the match with care. Lucy turned back to watch.
Ikaruga dragged her feet back and crossed her feet as she was walking towards Erza.
Erza brought her sword down but Ikaruga slid down using the feet she dragged back and avoided the hit completely.
She landed in a position where she was two feet away from Erza while Erza's blade was completely out in the open. Erza had no way to defend while Ikaruga was so close.
Ikaruga went for the head but Erza opted to bending her head and sliding down to dodge the hit. She turned around and created distance between them.
"What did she do?!" Lucy asked,impressed by Ikaruga.
"Ayumi-ashi." Jellal answered. Lucy motioned an expression that meant she had no idea what he was talking about.
"It's an advanced foot technique. You place yourself as an open target...At least that's what your opponent will think. But in fact,you are creating an opening to deceive your opponent. She's good" Jellal praised Ikaruga.
"Wow..."Lucy was surprised to hear how much Jellal knew about Kendo.
Erza and Ikaruga clashed their swords for a couple of times to catch an opening but both of them were vigilant.
"Don't lose,Erza!" Natsu yelled. Lisanna got up as well. And pretty soon,everyone besides Laxus,Jellal,Lucy and Gray's group were cheering for Erza or Ikaruga.
The combat turned into dancing at one point. Both of them kept dodging instead of parrying and blocking.
Erza slid down once again while parrying a blow,Ikaruga dragged her feet back slowly, placed herself away from Erza and motioned to walk...
"She's doing it again!" Lucy realized.
"Hmph" Jellal smirked.
Erza acted like the same and brought her sword down for a critical,Ikaruga dodged it again.. Erza fell for her "Ayumi-ashi" again. Ikaruga acted to jab this time...
"Erza!" Natsu yelled,thinking she was gonna get tapped.
But Erza bend down to do a split and avoided the blow completely but barely. She bounced right back and thrust her blade towards Ikaruga.
"WOW!" A guy from the stands yelled.
Ikaruga barely dodged and lost her control...She slid down and tried to distance herself away from Erza but Erza followed suit and went for the stomach. Ikaruga was almost hit but then her body moved in perfect harmony and she was out of Erza's way..
"No way! She can't move that fast after losing her control!" Gray thought in shock while Jellal made an amused face.
"How did she do that?"Lucy asked in excitement just as Erza lost her balance and started to get cornered by constant body blows and jabs by was being pushed to a corner.
"Nuki-waza...She used a feint in conjuncture with Ayumi-ashi. She deliberately let herself be caught in Erza's plan to render her Ayumi-ashi useless..She practices advanced foot techniques. But those movements require a high speed to perform..She is performing them elegantly without slipping up." Jellal praised her even further.
"Can Erza win?" Lucy asked while worried,surprised at herself for caring so much.. Jellal smiled tenderly.
"What do you think?" He asked..Causing Lucy to watch Erza get cornered even further.
"I think she can win. Her opponent is using these complex moves but she is not slipping up or losing points. They have been fighting over two minutes and she still didn't get hit." Lucy talked on Erza's behalf.
"Her opponent isn't trying to win the point. She is using the moves to memorize Erza's reactions to them.. When she wants to win the points...you'll know it." Jellal predicted.
Ikaruga went for a jab just after Jellal finished his sentence.
Erza countered it and parried it over her shoulder and slid down to get the upper-hand. Ikaruga initiated her Ayumi-ashi which caused Erza to reply with sliding down in the opposite direction for a jab.
"She has her now!" Gray,Lucy and Natsu mentally yelled and jumped up after seeing Erza go for an impossible to dodge blow.
But the impossible happened and Ikaruga bend her knees and leaned back.
"No way!" Lucy and Natsu yelled.
The blow missed completely and Ikaruga tapped Erza's wrist slightly.
Gildarts raised his flag and yelled "Men-ari!"
"1-0!" He yelled as the opponents stepped away from each other and placed themselves back in the original position.
"She's too good."Lucy realized and looked at Jellal.
"You think so?" Jellal asked.
"Y-Yeah. There was no way a normal person could have dodged that let alone predict has counter-moves for everything Erza showed.."Lucy explained and sighed.
Gildarts raised the flag and put it down again. The match started once more. Erza went for the throat but her blade was shut down with a parry.
"So you think Erza's going to lose?" Jellal asked with an amused face which made Lucy frown.
"Wasn't this guy cheering for him?"Lucy asked herself and forgot to reply to Jellal for a second. Erza and Ikaruga were tapping their swords in a small clash to look for opportunities.
"Y-Yeah,I do." Lucy admitted Ikaruga's superiority and Jellal turned to face the match once more with a serious look on his face...Erza drew closer to Ikaruga and went for the jab.
Ikaruga replied by dragging her feet back once more.
"Here she goes..."Natsu thought as Ikaruga began her Ayumi-ashi.
Erza didn't back just changed her blow and went for a full body slash.
Ikaruga dropped herself once more and easily dodged her attack. She slid down and took two steps forward with her right foot and one step back with her left.
"This will decide it!" Gray thought in excitement and frustration.
Erza dragged her feet back and prepared to propel herself towards Ikaruga.
Ikaruga initiated her feint once more when Erza went for her head. She dodged the blow but she also propelled herself against Erza. Erza had no distance to swing her sword or to block..
"It's over." Lucy talked in frustration.
Erza lowered her head even though she had no room to dodge.
Jellal smiled.
"I wouldn't count on it." He replied just as Erza changed positions at an incredible speed and hit Ikaruga's stomach before she could even lift her sword.
The whole audience jumped up in excitement as Ikaruga lost her existing balance due to the sheer force of the unexpected blow and fell to the ground.
Jellal started to laugh just as Gildarts raised the flag and helped Ikaruga up. Clear frustration and anger could be read in Ikaruga's eyes.
Gildarts raised the flag once more and yelled.
"1-1! Final point!" He declared.
"GO ERZA!" Natsu yelled in excitement while Mirajane and Laxus looked at each other and smiled.
Gray frowned but a slight smile could be read from his expression.
"How did she do that?!" Rogue asked,surprised.
"She's Erza..."Gray replied and smiled.
"No way! H-how did she? What was that movement?" Lucy asked Jellal,admiration and shock dripping from her expression..
Erza,who was getting overwhelmed by Ikaruga and her movements only one moment ago acted so quickly that neither Lucy or Ikaruga could figure out what happened after it happened...
"Debana-waza. It means to attack your opponent with sheer speed and confidence when you sense the opponents intention to attack. A basic move that relies on speed." Jellal replied with a smirk on his face and got up from his seat.
Gildarts gave the signal and the match started again. Erza and Ikaruga came closer and readied themselves.
"B-but wait... Ikaruga was using complex moves and techniques! How did that basic move even work?" Lucy asked...She was really curious.
"Simple...All Erza needed to do was to be faster than her opponent can react to..."Jellal said just as Erza readied herself to hit Ikaruga.
Ikaruga tapped her sword against Erza's and waited for a blow to dodge with a feint.
"How did she do that? And where are you going?" Lucy asked two questions just as Jellal started to walk away.
Jellal smirked after hearing Lucy's first question...
"Their levels are far too different..."Jellal talked with a smile just as Erza thrust herself before Ikaruga. She slid towards her in one fast motion and tapped Ikaruga's head..
"NO WAY!" Half of the audience yelled just as Erza tapped her opponent before she could even Jellal was not even watching the match..
Lucy looked at Erza and then Jellal with a shocked face...
"Did he knew all along Erza was going to win?" Lucy thought while Jellal put his hands in his pants pocket and turned to Lucy.
"I'm going to get something to drink..Do you want something? There's still another match." Jellal yelled from afar with a confident look.
"Y-Yeah!" Lucy yelled.
"He knows Erza very well... He had confidence that she would win all along. I wonder how they know each other..."Lucy thought just before darker thoughts came to her mind...
"I'm getting too caught up...I must not forget my purpose."Lucy thought and looked at Laxus..
"Soon..."She thought to herself.
A/N: I have no idea how that fight scene looks in other people's minds :D For me,I just wrote what I imagined it would be...I did try to look at Kendo manuals and forums to get my facts straight. But if there are any Kendo fans or people who actually study Kendo among my readers,then I'm sorry for any possible mistakes about it :D
