Chapter Seventeen: Who I am Today

A light came on in Glass' apartment. Both she and Kylee entered it. "Well here it is. This is my place. Kinda small huh? Sorry for the mess."

Kylee took a few steps forward and looked at the room. She didn't expect Glass to live like this. It really didn't suit someone like her. "It looks nice. You really live her Glass?"

Glass nodded her head. "Yeah but not for long since I'm going to move in with you and your dad." They were just here to final the Glaceon girl's moving out. All they had to do was just get some of her clothes and belongs. The futon, TV, and everything else could be sold to someone else.

Both girls sat on the couch and sighed. It was a few days after the dance and officially going out. The first they told was Kylee's dad. He was overjoyed to hear it and knew Glass would take care of his daughter. Lonny and Trisha kinda knew they would be together so it wasn't much of surprise to them. Glass was glad things were moving in her life again. Sure life on the Battle Streets was fun but she gave that up all to be with her new girlfriend. Yes life had never been better for her. However there was one thing left she had to do. The one thing Kylee deserves to know. Her past. The reason why a prodigy coordinator preferred battles instead. That time was now. "Hey Kylee?"

The other girl looked at her lover. "Yes? What is it?"

This was it. This was finally the time to tell her. "I'm sure you wondered at times why a coordinator like me gave up contests and followed a life of battles" Kylee has wondered about that for a while now. She saw how good Glass was from that little contest battle so why did she give them up?

Glass breathed in deeply and breathed out. "Well the first thing you should know that my full name is Glass Artica." Now that Kylee thought about it, she never knew her girlfriend's last name. It just never came to her to ask about it.

However it did ring a bell. "Artica? I think I heard that name somewhere before."

The Glaceon girl chuckled. Of course she would remember that. Kylee was a coordinator. "It's because I'm the daughter of the Artica family."

Once Kylee heard that, she instantly remembered why that name sounded familiar to her. "Wait Artica? As in the famous coordinator family from Sinnoh?"

Glass nodded to confirm the question. "Yep that's them and I'm the daughter that deserted them."

Kylee was speechless. She had no idea that Glass was the lost daughter of the family. "I don't…believe it."

The other girl smiled. "Guess I should explain myself then. I'm sure you heard of my parents. They were top coordinators from their regions and from rich families as well. My father from Hoenn and my mother from Sinnoh. They were finalists in the Grand Festival that was taking place in Sinnoh. I heard it was grand show. It was also how they met and how they fell in love. Shortly after that, they ended up being married. Not long after that I was born. They decided to move the Ransei region. Like usual, I was just an Eevee growing up. I admired them for their contest skills and it came as no shock I wanted to become one as well. I started to show my talent at five. Guess they figured that I had a knack for it." Glass moved her neck a bit before continuing her story. "Growing up, I have Livel as friend and we both lived close to where that shopping center is where you go to. We were both introduced by our parents but I easily outclassed him but the guy was tenacious. By the age of eight, I was given an ice amulet and I became a Glaceon. My contest skills vastly improved after that."

To Kylee, it sounded like she had an ok childhood. A young girl who looked up to her parents and wanted to be one herself. "So what made you want to do battles then?"

Glass looked down at the floor. "Since my parents were coordinators, they loved contests since they displayed such a show. Showing off the beauty of attacks. However both of them despised battles. They thought it was nothing more than barbaric. They advised me strictly to not even look at them. I did what they said but a little part of me wondered what they were like. When I was ten, I already managed to acquire several ribbons. I was happy I was doing so well but doing contests weren't just doing it for me. Then one night, when both of my parents were asleep, I turned on my TV and channeled surfed to see what battles were really like. I finally managed to find one." She smiled as she loved that first feeling of seeing a battle. "I still remember that battle clearly. It was someone from the Scizor race versus someone from Samurott race. It was unlike anything I've seen. Both of them were giving it their all in that match. I could see the intensity of their attacks, the feel of just how powerful their attacks were. Once the match ended, both of them shook hands. It was at that moment, I wanted to try out battles."

The Leafeon smiled at the sight of Glass smiling as she talked about how she was introduced to battles. However she did see a problem. "How did you keep this from your parents?" She was pretty sure her parents wouldn't like the idea of their daughter partaking in battles.

That was another memory was reluctant to remember. "Well I knew my parents wouldn't like that I was interested in battles now so I kept it a secret. I used some of the allowance they gave me to buy some of the battle magazines. That's when I found out that battling was a bit strategical. I wanted to learn more about it but most of all, I wanted to experience it. I couldn't battle much during school but on the weekends, I would go these junior matches without my parents knowing. I wasn't worried about using my name since I don't know much battlers who did watch contests. I would tell my parents I was going to Livel's house and play with him. My first battle is what you expected it would be." Kylee thought Glass had a talent for battling. "I lost my first match." She smiled brightly as she said that. The Leafeon girl almost fell off the couch. "Battles were so different than contests. It was something I could finally work with. To improve. So I decided to train myself. To my parents, it looked like was training for the second round of contests but it wasn't. I even tried battling Livel a few times but that turned about to be much for him."

Kylee saw Glass rub the back of her head as she laughed. "I continued to battle in secret and even got a few tips from the other competitors. Of course I still had contests to do so I managed to balance. There were a few times where my battling skills did come in handy in the second rounds. At the time, it felt amazing. Doing both contests and battles. It was like I was truly alive. I thought this would last forever." Her smiled turned into a frown. "Or so I thought. I guess it was a bit stupid of me believing I could keep up this double life I had going. When I was thirteen, I was accepted in the Grand Festival. My parents were so proud of me that I was able to participate in it. However what they didn't know was that I was also in a junior tournament was that was happening on the same day. The tournament started a bit earlier then the festival so I thought I would win the tournament and rush over to the festival. While my parents thought I was preparing for my first match, I was already having my first match at the tournament. All of the training and battles I had from before paid off. However I kept glancing at the clock to see my first performance."

Glass knew she was coming up the most difficult part of her story. "Some of the matches in the tournament went on a little longer than I thought. I won my final match in the tournament and was awarded a medal. It was great and all but I really needed to get back to the festival. After the celebrations, I rushed over to where the festival as fast I could. However once I arrived, I was shocked to see my face with the word forfeit over it. It turned out I had just missed my match by five minutes. If that wasn't bad enough, I heard several whispers from the people around saying I chickened out. It also didn't help that my parents were upset with me not showing up in the first place. When we arrived back at the house, they scolded me and wondered where I was. That's when the worst of it happened."

Just as I was about to explain to them, the medal I had won the tournament fell out of my pocket. It was right there I knew I was busted. I saw my father walk over to it and pick it up. "And what is this young lady?" Once I saw him take a closer look, I saw the displeasure on his face. "Glass, would mind explaining why do you have this? If I didn't know any better, I say this says first place in the junior battle tournament."

I had to come clean to them even though I knew they wouldn't like it. "I…I joined a tournament."

And I was right. Both my father and mother didn't like what I said. "Are you saying that you have been participating in mindless battles?! For how long young lady?!"

I was hesitant to answer. "Answer your father Glass." My mother was equally furious at me.

"A…couple of years." I knew things were going to become worse.

My dad clearly showed it. "So what I'm hearing is that my own daughter, my pride and joy for doing contests so well, has been participating in these barbaric battles?! No daughter of will of mine will become a boorish brute!"

I started to become scared. "Please understand! I can still do the contests! Just let me do this too!"

I saw my mother shake her head. "Honey please. You're such a gifted girl but why do you want to partake in such vulgar fights?"

I felt upset when she said that. They didn't know what battles were truly like. "They're not vulgar fights! In some ways, they're about the same as contests!"

No matter how I argued with my parents, it seemed hopeless. I saw my father wave his arm across. "Nonsense! You will cease this rebellious attitude at once young lady!"

After that, my relationship with my parents went south fast. They didn't trust me anymore and search my room thoroughly. They found all of the battle magazines I had and threw them away. After that, I couldn't go anywhere without a bodyguard looking over my shoulder. The talks I had with my parents were practically nonexistent. I could feel at times just how disappointed they were with me just because I participated in battles. We had our arguments time and again. However one of them pushed to my limits. I was summoned to my father's office where he and my mother called me. I knew being called there meant something bad was about to happen to me. I entered the room to see my father and mother sitting in their chairs staring at me. "You wanted to see?"

My father had his hands together with his fingers intertwined. "Indeed I have. Since we have learned your…distasteful habit, we have come to a decision. We are moving to Sinnoh and once we do, you'll be attending a boarding school that accepts gifted coordinators such as yourself. You will agree to this and you will stop being involved in those primitive battles. No exceptions."

I didn't know what was worse. The fact we have to move in order for them to make stop battling or the fact I couldn't battle at all. Battles have become an important part of my life. More so then contests. I couldn't agree to something like that. "Please no! Let me battle! I want to fight!"

Of course my father didn't like what I said. "Nonsense! You will forget these barbarian fights and that's final!"

My mother gave me that same disapproving look as always. "Glass dear, you are much more suited for contests rather than those tasteless matches. You could get hurt."

I couldn't believe she said that. I've been getting slammed around and all other kinds of injuries from battling and she says that of all things?! I gritted my teeth. "I don't care about that! Battles are something I've never experienced before and…they're much more than you think!" They were more than just two people fighting each other. It was about honor and respect. Apparently that was something they did not understand.

I heard my father scoff at what I said. "Ha. Battles are something only filthy animals partake in! You are part of the Artica family. A family who has raised top tier coordinator for generations. There is no chance that one of our own will take part as something mindless as battling!"

I felt my emotions run wild. "But-"

"No buts young lady! You will return to your room and you will forget about battles once and for all!"

The room went deathly silent for a few minutes after that. Even though it was, my anger for them skyrocketed. They were going to take away one of the most important things in my life just because they didn't like it at all. They were trying to control my life now, deciding for me. It was at that moment, I decided. "Well screw that!"

Now my parents were furious with me. "Listen here youn-"

"How about you listen to me for once in your Arceus damn life?!" I wasn't going to take any more of their bullshit. "You don't have the right to control my life. If I want to do battles, I'll do them. If I want to do contests I'll do them as well. I'm not like the both of you. I'm not as narrow minded like you. I saw what these battles are. They're every bit as passionate as contests are. I won't abide by your rules any longer."

My mother was surprised by what I said "Just what are you saying?"

I was glad she asked. "What I am saying is…" I looked at the straight in the eyes. "What I'm saying is that I won't be part of this family anymore!"

My parents were speechless when I said that. Well my mother anyway. My father… "Have you lost your mind?! You would choose battling over your own family?"

There was no doubt in my mind. "Damn right! The fact the two of you don't accept it means you're just lousy parents who can't accept the fact their daughter has an interest in battles. You can't accept that fact. I can't accept the fact that my own parents are acting this way because of something I like. To you contests are everything. To me, contests are my heart and battling is my soul! To take that away would be like killing a part of me. So in this case, I would gladly choose the life I have with battling instead of living without it for yours!" With that said, I turned my back on my parents and started to leave.

"Just hold on there this instant young lady." I stopped. I wanted to what he said. "If you walk out of that door right now, I'll-"

"You'll what?" I spoke to them in a deep voice. "As far as I'm concerned, I'm no longer part of this family and you two are no longer in my life anymore. Have fun moving back to Sinnoh." Those were the last words I spoke to my parents.

Glass sighed in relief knowing that the hard part of her story was over. "After that, I packed some clothes and left my house. I managed to stay at another friend's house who I met through some of the battles. Didn't change the fact I was on my own now but that was the way I preferred it. I was free to do what I want. Two years later after that, I was battling in the Battle Streets and soon after that I became a Street King. I haven't done contests since then." She smiled sadly. "The rest you know. You saw my battles, I noticed you. Everything. Thank you for listening to me. You're the first one I told of this."

Kylee smiled at the other girl and took her hand into her own. "I'm glad you did. To me, you chose what you believed in over your parents just you chose me over your title. Hearing all of this from you now, I can't believe how grateful I am now having you at my side."

The Glaceon girl chuckled at her girlfriend's modesty. "And I'm lucky to have met you. If I leave my parent's that night, we wouldn't have met at all." Glass figured her parents would've set her up with some random guy from another family.

"Glass?" She looked at Kylee as she smiled at her. "Let's continue living our lives the way they should be. We'll be able to decide our future together."

Glass felt so much happiness hearing that from her love. "And I wouldn't have it any other way." Two leaned in and kissed each other with every amount of love they had for each other.

Umbres sighed as he was walking to his dorm room for the night. His body was sore all over from today's training exercises. His friend from behind shared his feeling. A young man similar to his age that had long brown spiky hair and was from the Sandslash race. "Man that was brutal. I can't imagine anyone else not feeling the pain in their bodies now."

The Umbreon male chuckled in agreement. "Yeah but it's worth it." Every day he survived the Distortion World's worth of training was another step of becoming an E.G.

His friend didn't share his enthusiasm. "I don't know man. I'm thinking of quitting. This stuff is way too rough. I'm surprised you're still able to stand." Once the two of them reached the door to their dorm room, Umbres saw the mailbox outside to the side of the door. He opened it to check if anything came in. "So any mail this time?"

To his surprise there was. Umbres pulled out a single letter. He already knew who it was from. "Looks like Kylee sent me another letter."

His friend was interested in hearing that. "Another one from your sister? What's it say this time?" The two entered their room and he fell to his bed while Umbres sat on his. He heard Umbres rip open the letter. "Hey dude I got a question. What would your reaction be I started dating your sister?" He knew all too well that his friend was very protective of his sister but he still had to ask.

Umbres ignored the question for now and read the letter. "Seems Kylee is doing just fine. Dad is doing fine too." He smiled at the part where his sister had fun at her high school homecoming dance. He laughed to himself as he remembered he was her date for her junior high one. However it was the last sentence that made him laugh.

His friend looked at him with a confused face. "What's so funny man?"

Umbres continued to laugh. "Sorry to say this but my sister already found someone."

His roommate groaned. "Aw are you serious? Man do I feel jealous of the guy she's going out with."

Umbres pulled something else out of the envelope. It was picture and he just smiled at it. "Yeah you should feel jealous. In more ways than one." In the photo was his dad, Kylee's friends Lonny and Trina, Kylee herself with her new girlfriend Glass all smiling brightly.

A/N: Good god I can't believe it took me this freaking long on finishing this story. For my tenth story, it took its sweet time.
