Officer Hijikata Toshiro drove down the streets of the city late at night when darkness had long before fallen. Besides him, there were two other passengers in the police car - the Kinoshita twins. Taking a look back at them in his mirror, the man saw that the younger of the two, Hideyoshi, was still burying his head into his older sister's shoulder, Yuuko's arms around the quiet hideyoshi. To say Hijikata was concerned is a bit of an understatement, but he knew that Yuuko was better suited to this and that he could leave everything to her. All he needed, and had, to do was to just get them home safely.

With that thought in mind, he continued on towards their house. It didn't take too long, and Hijikata was saying "see you" to them before he knew it. He took one last sympathetic look at Hideyoshi before pulling away, heading on back to the station.

Yuuko turned away from the vehicle as it drove off, guiding Hideyoshi towards the door and inside of the house. He could barely stand up on his own, so she practically had to carry him to the couch where she sat down next to him. He wasn't crying anymore; he was just... silent. She placed both of her hands on his cheeks, turning his head to face her as she took a good look into his red eyes. "Hideyoshi..." She breathed his name, an overwhelming sense of sadness coming over her.

Without wasting anymore time, Yuuko guided his head back to her shoulder, her hands going back around his body. She knew it hurt him so much that his first girlfriend had turned out like... like this; and it hurt her even more because she hadn't been able to prevent it. But, even though she may not have been able to prevent it, she can still comfort him and make him feel better... she just has to do that.

"Hideyoshi, everything is... alright now. There's nothing to be scared of; I'm here, aren't I?" Yuuko told him, her hand rubbing his back. She didn't want to see her brother crying; she didn't want to see him so sad, so hurt... so betrayed.

Her brother's arms wrapped around her, returning her embrace tightly. "S-sis..." He began in a weak and shaky voice, "I... I trusted her... b-but... in the end, I... I was just too... excited about having finally... gotten a girlfriend... and... and she fooled me... just like that..."

Yuuko looked down at the ground as she continued to hold him, a sad expression in her eyes. "I'm sorry, Hideyoshi... I knew there was something off about her, yet I didn't do anything...!" Tears started to flow from her own eyes, regret and guilt washing over her.

Hideyoshi tore away from her shoulder, looking directly into her eyes. "N-no, s-sis, it's not... it's not your fault!" He cried, averting his eyes away from her own as she watched him. "I... I shouldn't have tossed your words away so easily... just because she was my first girlfriend..." His hands clutched at the fabric of her shirt over his shoulders, his eyes closing as he trembled. "It's my fault... for not fully listening to you, a-aneue..."

Yuuko suddenly pressed him against her, tighter than before. "Don't say something like that, Hideyoshi! It's not your fault!" A somber smile started to form on her face as she held him there in her arms. "Listen to me, I'm your older sister... it's my job to look out for you. So, don't try to lessen my burden, you idiot." She told him, placing a kiss upon his cheek. "Let's forget about whose fault it is, Hideyoshi."

Hideyoshi opened his eyes, looking into her own; his body wasn't trembling as much as before, which helped to soothe Yuuko's worrying. "Sis..." He breathed the word, a glint of a feeling of safety returning to his eyes.

"I'm just glad that you're safe." Yuuko told him, giving him the biggest smile that she could manage to try and make him feel better.

"Sister..." Without warning, he buried his head into her chest, his arms hugging her as tight as he could, "I love you, sis... Thank you, for everything..." He looked back into her eyes, tears rolling down his cheeks again. "Thank you... for helping me... without you, I couldn't have... screamed..."

Yuuko raised her hand, wiping away his tears as she continued to smile a sweet and warm smile at him. "You're welcome, my dearest brother." She felt waves of joy come coursing through her heart when Hideyoshi smiled back at her before he buried his head back into her chest.

Now, there was just one thing she needed to tell him. "Hideyoshi," She began, catching his attention though he didn't look up at her, "listen... I know this has been a... bad experience... but don't be afraid of getting a girlfriend again in the future. There may be some more girls like her, but there are many, many more that aren't. And, don't worry, I'll always be here for you."

Hideyoshi was silent for a few moments as he just sat there, his hold slack on her; however, it tightened when he spoke. "I'll be... very careful from now on, sis... I won't get... blinded again... and..." He looked up at her, complete and utter trust being the only expression in his eyes now, "I'll certainly listen to you, completely, from now on, aneue..."

Yuuko smiled as she rubbed his back. "That's better..." She told him right before kissing him on the forehead.

Hideyoshi looked down, his cheeks slightly red now. "Hey, sis..."
"Yeah?"
He looked back up at her. "There won't ever be anyone I trust more than you..."
She smiled. "I'm fine with that."

They fully embraced each other once more, the sadness and hurt leaving both of them. However, Yuuko soon found that she had forgotten one last thing. "Hey, Hideyoshi, I almost forgot something." At his curious look, she leaned forward and gave him one last kiss on the forehead. "I love you too."
