AN: Sorry for taking so long with this update. Real life, coupled with writer's block kept me from getting it to you a long time ago.

In this story, Jasper has always gone by Whitlock. They have explained the difference is that Rosalie took a stepfather's last name while Jasper kept their original name.

So in this chapter, we have a newborn Bella. What's going to happen? Will she remember Edward's betrayal?

Broken Heart's Vengeance Ch. 2

A Newborn Awakens

*Bella POV*

The pain of the change was excruciating, but it was nothing compared to the pain I felt at Edward's cruel betrayal. He murdered our…MY baby! We didn't even know what was going on and he took the cruelest route possible in dealing with it. My baby is dead and now I am turning. This was not the way I had pictured this happening. But then again, I never thought I'd get pregnant by my vampire husband. Husband? Not for much longer if I had anything to say about it. Edward's betrayal was the final straw.

I could hear my family move around me as I burned, their voices distant and hazy. I tried to focus on keeping as many of my memories as possible, recalling Jasper telling me how newborn vampires rarely kept their human memories. I felt two of them bite me again and again, which made me realize that Edward had not put enough venom in me, leaving me to suffer and/or die for good. Cruel bastard. Luckily, it was Carlisle and Jasper who bit me, their familiar scents telling me that they did it.

After their last bite, I could feel their venom coursing through my body at a quick rate, turning me into a vampire more quickly. Strangely, I could also sense that their venom had overtaken Edward's and simply consumed it. By that act, I was now the progeny of Carlisle and Jasper, not Edward. That made me feel better somehow and I relaxed, letting the burn consume me as I kept a loop of my favorite memories and other ones constantly roll through my mind.

Not long after the final bites, my heart sped up so fast that I thought it would explode. Then suddenly, it stopped. The silence was deafening. My eyelids were heavy, so I slowly opened then so I wouldn't overwhelm my new eyesight. The room was bright, even with the sun setting. I rose slowly as my body still mysteriously ached. My skin felt strange, like it had been stretched. I looked down and saw that my bloody clothing had been removed and my body cleansed of the blood. A simple black bikini and sundress is all I wore, which I was grateful for.

Looking up, I spied my family standing near the open French doors that led to the rainforest. Jasper and Carlisle were standing the closest to me, everyone else behind them. Thanks to my much-improved sight, I could see the scars that covered Jasper's body so much easier. Strangely enough, I wasn't threatened by them or him. Nor was I threatened by Carlisle or the others. They were my family and Jasper and Carlisle were my sires. None of them would hurt me.

I slowly got up and asked, "Is it supposed to feel like I've been put on the rack?" Jasper chuckled as Carlisle said, "Awaking from the change is different for everyone Bella. Considering the trauma your body went through before your change, that could possibly explain the ache you feel." I nodded, turned to Jasper and asked, "So how am I doing for a newborn so far?" He laughed and said "Very well little one. You thirsty?" The small itch that had been tickling my throat flared a little, but it wasn't unbearable.

I shrugged and said, "A little, but I'm in no rush. Where is he?" All of them looked down in shame before Emmett said, "We don't know Bella. He ran like the coward he is. He could be anywhere by now." I slowly nodded and then asked, "What did he do with…with the baby?" Rosalie stepped forward and said, "He put the baby in the fire pit. Esme and I gave the remains a proper burial." That sick son of a bitch! I started shaking I was so angry.

Jasper felt the switch in my emotions and quickly got me outside to hunt. He took me deep into the rainforest and quickly started teaching me how to hunt. It didn't take me long to get the hang of it. By the time I was done, two panthers and a deer-like animal met their demise. Carnivores were the best and Jasper told me that the blood of a carnivore would keep me satisfied longer than an herbivore would. I watched him hunt, glad that he was one of my sires. Once we were done, we headed back to the house.

As we walked in, I spotted the bloodstain on the couch and carpet. The faint memories of what had happened flooded my mind and it took me a few moments to calm myself down. I still couldn't believe that the man I had loved and given everything up for had done this. He had taken away the only child I would ever have and left me to die. I was scared too asshole! Why didn't you at least wait for Carlisle? Why did you decide that killing our baby was the right thing to do? I wasn't unhappy that I was a vampire, just unhappy about how my change came about.

I turned to Esme and asked, "Where's the grave?" She and the rest of the family led me to a spot just outside the rainforest. A small stone cross stood there, the inscription simply saying:

Baby Swan

Taken too soon

Loved by many

I turned to Esme and asked, "Swan?" Alice came forward and said, "I saw that if we put Cullen or Masen, you'd destroy it." I nodded and then stood there in silence. As I stared at the tiny grave of my only child, I wondered why he or she had been so easily discarded by Edward. All he had wanted for me before agreeing my change was for me to have children, yet he kills the only child I would ever have. Bastard. I turned to Jasper and said, "He needs to pay for what he's done."

Jasper nodded and said, "We will darlin', but there's something else we have to deal with first." He and the others walked me inside and sat me down before Carlisle said, "It seems that Jacob Black was more angry about your marriage and pending change than we thought. He told your father not only about the Pack, but about us as well. He knows that we are vampires and that, at the time he was told, you were planning to become one as well." Fucking great. Thank you Jacob Black. My anger began to boil again but Jasper was quick with his gift and easily calmed me down.

I asked, "What do we do? We had a plan in place so Charlie wouldn't find out. Oh God, what if the Volturi find out?" Carlisle gently gathered me in his arms and rocked me as he said, "We'll have to talk to him as a family Bella. He'll need to see you and be told the dangers of knowing our secret. As for the Volturi, they need to see that you've been changed and how it occurred. We will need their help in bringing Edward to justice. Also, we'll have to inform them that your father knows and who told him." I asked, "Do you think Aro will give him the option? He should stay human, he just married Sue."

Jasper said, "That may actually keep him human. By marrying Sue, he became part of their tribe and therefore he's under the Pack's protection. Aro has to honor that since it is written law. When we go to Volterra, we just have to tell him that." I nodded and then asked, "How much trouble is Jacob in?" Carlisle sighed and said "From what Sam told me, he's in very big trouble. While he was forgiven for telling you the legends before he knew the truth, his telling of our secrets to Charlie was not so innocent. He did it with one goal in mind."

"To separate me from the family and stop you from changing me." At his nod, I growled and started to pace. Once again, Jake had disregarded my choice and put someone I loved in danger. If the Volturi found out my father knew the secret before we had a chance to talk to them, Charlie was dead. I turned to the family and said, "We have to go back. Charlie needs to be told the truth from our end. And I need to deal with Jake once and for all."

Carlisle nodded and said, "I'll have Eleazar meet us at the house in Forks. I want him nearby at least until your newborn year is over. There is something else Bella." "What?" "If Edward is executed, you might feel some pain. As one of your sires, you and he…" "He's not. Only you and Jasper sired me." At the look of confusion, I explained what I had felt and 'seen' during my change. After I finished Carlisle said, "I've heard of such a thing happening, but never actually met anyone it's happened to. In any case, I am proud to be your sire Bella." "As am I darlin'." I smiled and then asked, "Would it be okay of I took Jasper's last name? At least until after we deal with Edward anyway. Right now…I just…"

Carlisle lifted my head up and said, "It's perfectly fine Bella. In fact, the name Whitlock suits you better than Cullen ever would. Either way, you're still my daughter." I gave him a quick hug before turning to Jasper and asking, "Can you get it done? Oh and I need divorce papers as well." Jasper nodded and said, "I'll get Jenks on it Miss Whitlock. I'll make sure he knows how urgent it is that we get your new documents quickly." Esme asked, "Bella, would you like to see the new you?" At my nod, she led me to the long mirror in the hall.

I barely recognized the woman in the mirror. My change had eliminated any baby fat I once had. My legs were toned, long and shapely. As my gaze moved up, I saw that my skin was glowing, not sparkling in the still fading sunlight. My figure, once slightly chubby, was now more hourglass. My breasts had gone up a cup size, but the change suited my new body. Finally my eyes reached my face. It was thinner, like I'd lose some weight, but I didn't look unhealthy. My hair, which had been slightly past my shoulders at the wedding, now was log enough to almost touch my butt. It was shiny, thick and slightly wavy as well. The only thing odd about my appearance were my bright red eyes.

Jasper came up behind me and said, "The red will fade in time Bella. We'll keep you on carnivores until we leave so you stay fed longer." I nodded and asked, "How long do we have to stay before we can go back to Forks?" Jasper sighed and said, "A few days at least. I want to check your control before we go anywhere. We'll do some training and some basic tests with the locals and on the main land. If your control holds fast with both, we'll head to Forks by the end of the week."

I started to nod, but something kept poking me in the back of the head. Like my brain was trying to tell me not to wait. What if Edward is already back in Forks? What if he knows that Charlie was told the truth? If he goes to the Volturi first…

I shook my head and said, "No, we need to go back sooner than that. Charlie is in danger. We'll do the test tomorrow and go back tomorrow night." Jasper and Carlisle tried to reason with me, but I wouldn't listen. I'd endangered Charlie too many times already, I wouldn't do it again.

"We're going and that's final."
