~Escape Reality

*~The Beginning*~

Never in a million years would she have guessed that her life would have turned out the way it did. At twenty-two, she should be waking up in some unknown place with a killer hangover, her panties and dignity both missing. She's supposed to stay up until three A.M. to study for her English exam while coasting off of a caffeine high. She's supposed to be living off of instant noodles, frozen waffles, and Cheeto puffs. She's supposed to be crying to her parents begging them for extra cash since she blew it all on booze and drugs in a wild night of partying.

But no, instead she wakes up every morning next to the love of her life. Then she goes downstairs and helps Mrs. Briefs with the breakfast. Once the food is finished, two girls come running down the stairs with bright smiles on their faces, and not long afterwards, the rest of the family makes their way in, the rest of her family. She prepares the two toddlers for the day, and once she's done with her motherly duties she makes her way over to community college. This was her life, a life any young college student would describe as miserable and boring. At least, that would be the case, if Pan was your everyday run-of-the-mill student.

A lot of people thought she was foolish for giving up her carefree early twenties for motherhood to children that didn't even belong to her, but Pan wouldn't give this up for the world.

"Wake up, wake up!" Came two cheerful chants followed by an innocently energetic stream of laughter. The two sprightly girls hopped onto the bed and immediately scrambled to their parents' sides. "Mommy, Daddy, it's our birthday!"

Trunks slowly opened his eyes and let out a tired yawn. A smile instantly grew on his face as he saw their beaming grins. "How could we forget, you two have been talking about this for two weeks." he said playfully.

"Mommy, you have to get up now so we can get dressed! Panya and Vega will be here soon!" Lacey exclaimed as she pulled the covers off of her barely awake mother. Lacey was the older of the two and the more demanding twin, a trait she inherited from her aunt Bra. The girl had shoulder length hair that was the same shade of lavender as her father, and not only did she look like a female version of her father, she also inherited his intelligence and slickness.

"Grandma Bulma and I went shopping last week and got a pretty pink dress for my party!" Cami added, excitedly pulling on Trunks arm. Cami was the girly girl with the brains. She knew how to program a computer at the innocent age of four and was unbearably cute while doing it. Just like her sister, she favored her father in appearance and personality. The two biggest physical characteristic that differentiated the two were their hair lengths. While Lacey's was long, Cami's was short and thick. Cami also had their mother's eyes, much to Trunks' dismay. Lastly, Cami was the taller twin despite being younger.

"Okay okay, we're getting up," Pan chuckled weakly as she slowly dragged herself into a sitting position. "How about you girls go brush your teeth and wash your face and I'll go help with breakfast."

"Can we have a piece of our cake for breakfast? Please?" Cami begged, bouncing up and down on the mattress as she spoke.

"No," Trunks said flatly. "I don't need two four year olds with a sugar high this early in the morning."

"You're no fun daddy," Lacey pouted, folding her arms over her chest and storming out of the room.

Cami followed her, but before she stepped out the room she paused to stick her tongue out at her father. The most obvious personality trait that stuck out between the two was that Cami was a brat and at times a smartass, while Lacey was a sweetheart. Trunks couldn't figure out how Cami managed to get this way, but his suspicions were that she picked it up from her birth mother's side, or spending too much time with her Aunt Bra. Pan thought otherwise, she didn't like to admit it, but Trunks could be an even bigger brat than Bra or Cami at times.

"Awe, now they feel bad, go apologize Trunks," Pan demanded, glaring at him.

Trunks rolled his eyes and snaked his arm around Pan's waist, pulling her right up close to him. Pan let out a small squeal as she felt him kiss her neck. "Stop it Trunks, what if Cami or Lacey walk in on us."

"Then I guess I'll have to tell them where babies come from," he answered with a chuckle.

At first, parenthood was a hard transition for them. One minute they were at the beach, confessing their feelings for each other and the next they're at the hospital, learning about Marron's secret which she managed to hide from everyone, including her parents. It turned out that Marron had told her parents that she and some friends where going traveling around Japan, and when she returned, she'd start college. Lazuli was hesitant at first but with convincing from her husband she approved. The night she left was the last time they heard from her. They searched for her after news of the twins got out, but with her ki being masked, thanks to a ki manipulator she stole from Trunks, they couldn't find her.

Once they were informed about the two little girls, everything slowly started to make sense. Marron was ashamed to be having children so young and alone. Before she left, the young woman was acting strange, hiding in her room, eating more, wearing baggy clothes, and frequently visiting the bathroom. Krillin didn't take much heed to her peculiar behavior, but Lazuli did. It was very obvious as to what was happening, though she didn't want to confront her daughter based purely off of speculation, especially when it was about something this serious. If only she did, Marron would still be home with her. In the android's mind, the chances of her daughter returning were slim, not only did she have children out of wedlock, she abandoned them. As a mother, Lazuli would have to accept her, but she could never look at her daughter in the same light ever again.

Things began to fall apart after this, with Lazuli insisting that they get full custody, since Trunks didn't know a damn thing about raising kids, plus the two babies were the only things they had left of their daughter. Trunks had considered it at first, he'd be able to see them when Krillin and Lazuli approved, and he'd be able to have a normal relationship with his new girlfriend. Everyone told him it was the right choice, but he couldn't find it in his heart to hand them over. Marron deserved to be punished, he knew that she'd be back and when she finally did show her face, he'd make sure that they wouldn't have a clue to who she was. They didn't need to know that their real mother was out there, that she hastily abandoned them merely hours after they were brought screaming into this world. He wanted to keep her out of their life, and nobody could change his mind.

Trunks insisted that they didn't take the dilemma to court. It was obvious who would win, but Krillin and Lazuli wouldn't go down without a fight. As speculated,Trunks won the case, but was encouraged to let the grandparents see the children. Trunks flatly said no, as he didn't want anything to do with them. They had raised a horrible, heartless, irresponsible daughter, and he would rather die before he let his daughters end up like their birth mother.

"Mama, when can we open the presents?" Cami asked, tugging on her mother's shirt and get her attention.

"After cake and ice cream Cami," Pan answered, before looking down at the girl. Her smile faltered when she look at the girl's face, a bit of frosting serving to highlight the corner of her lip. "Cami Briefs, what is that on your mouth?"

The little girl's cheeks turned red as she quickly licked it away, trying her best to pretend like nothing was ever there. She smiled innocently at the woman and scratched the back of her head.

"I'm gonna go find Lacey and Panya!" the birthday girl scampered off before she could get scolded by her mother.

"Cami get back here!" Pan shouted. She was about to run after her, that is, until an all too familiar voice sounded from behind her, stopping her dead in her tracks.

"Give the girl a break, it's her birthday. Didn't you used to do the same exact thing when you were her age?"

A smirk rose on her face and without turning around she responded. "She needs to learn how to listen B-chan."

"Have you seriously forgotten your toddler days?" Bra chuckled as she approached her best friend. "It's been too long Pan."

Pan turned around so she was facing the girl. The years and a pregnancy had done her best friend well. She was curvier and it seemed like her breasts managed to grow a size. Her once flat stomach had a little bit of a pouch, but she didn't dare point it out. Bra's hair was significantly shorter, cut in a cute pixie style almost mimicking her mother. "Well you're the one who decided to move to the states and expand Capsule Corp. How is New York anyways?"

"Great, I've pretty much made every CEO my bitch, won't be long before us Briefs take over the world," Bra joked. She was mostly playing with this statement, but the idea had crossed her mind a few times. Her family was becoming the most influential in the world, and there had to be some degree of prestige to go along with it.

"Well technically you're not a Briefs, Bra, unless you and my brother are thinking about divorcing." Pan replied

"What about divorcing?" Goten chirped in as he approached them. In his arms he held his purple haired two year old daughter Vega. It was a shock to everyone how fast the two were taking things. Marriage within a year of dating, and then a baby not long after! To think at one point in time they hated each other's guts.

"Oh my look at my beautiful niece!" Pan squealed, snatching the toddler out of her brother's arms. The baby's onyx eyes lit up with joy and she let out a few excited giggles, "Panny!"

"Hello to you too Pan," Goten responded with a light laugh. "Good to see you still care about your dear old brother."

Pan scoffed obnoxiously and rolled her eyes. "Sorry for hurting your feelings, go to your boyfriend for support. He's in the kitchen if you want him, I'll just keep Vega company here while you talk."

Goten hopelessly looked at his wife, as if she could do anything. "You heard her, shoo, it's girl time." the bluette announced, waving her husband off. Once he was gone and out of earshot the two began catching up and gossiping.

"I don't mean to sound rude, but are Krillin and Android Eighteen in the girl's life?" Bra asked carefully, she knew this was a delicate topic. She didn't want Pan to feel like she was insulting her, but this was a question she was dying to know. "Are they even going to come to the party?"

The question had taken her surprise, though she should have known Bra was eventually going to ask the question. The girl was so damn nosey, it was honestly surprising that her antics didn't get her into huge trouble at times. "Krillin and Eighteen do see them the girls, for one weekend a month. To them Krillin and Eighteen are their "god grandparents" while they don't know understand it that well, they treat them the same as my parents and Bulma and Vegeta. We've signed a contract though, they cannot, no matter what, inform them that Marron is their...mother. Only we can, and we decide when they will find out."

"I think it's very nice of you and my brother to allow Krillin and Eighteen to have contact with Lace and Cami. Marron was the only child they had and now they're the only piece of her they have left. But Pan, you're their mother legally. You've adopted them and taken care of them all their lives. Marron only brought them into this world which was the easy part. You've done an amazing job at raising two kids," Bra replied, holding onto her friend's hand.

Pan simply smiled, no matter what people told her she still felt like she wasn't their mother. Yes she signed the legal papers, but still she felt as if something was missing. She loved then more than words could explain, but would they still love her if they knew biologically, she wasn't their mother.

"Happy Birthday Lacey and Cami! Happy Birthday to you!" chanted everyone in the backyard. The whole family was there surprisingly not one argument or fight had occurred. Everyone was civil, and Trunks was even somewhat friendly to Krillin and Eighteen.

Clapping followed after the song was over and the girls excitedly blew their candles out, after making their wish of course. While all of this happened, Pan and Trunks simply stood back, watching their two adorable daughters take their next step down the ever twisting path of life.

The woman let out a little sigh as the party went on, her thoughts drifting from her daughters to her own little journey that she had gone through over the years. Who would have thought that the innocent Pan would end up in a situation like this. When she took her first step out of Trunks' car that day, all she could think about was how her mother would react to her skipping school. Her mind was more focused on her attendance and her newly broken phone, with the thought of her having a family not even crossing her mind for a second.

Here she was though, standing side by side with her soon-to-be husband, their two precious daughters cheerily blowing out the candles to their cake. This life may not have been the one she originally pictured, but as she delved deeper into its mysteries, she had realized that this was a life she wouldn't change for the world.

"Come have some cake, Mama!" Lacey exclaimed, her sweet melodic voice cutting through Pan's little daydream. With a spring in her step and unwavering affection in her eyes, Pan walked over to the table, sitting down beside the two girls. As she cut into the freshly baked cake, she looked over at Cami and Lacey, a massive smile forming on her face when she saw them looking back at her.

I love you two… the woman thought, her own elation growing alongside the smiles of her two precious girls. Despite everything that had happened to her in the past, despite all of the trouble she had gotten into, Pan still had managed to stumble into the perfect life.
"Aren't you gonna cut one for me?" Trunks asked, his hand resting gently on Pan's pale shoulder. "After all, I am the one that helped you raise these little rascals. Without me here, I don't know what you'd do."

"Well, for starters, the two would definitely be less rebellious." Bra chimed in, prompting a cacophony of laughter from all of the guests.
The rest of the day went on like this, with everyone getting along perfectly fine, even the twins' grandparents, who seemed to be having the time of their lives, despite the tension between them and the Briefs.

The party went well, and Trunks had even offered to wash the dishes, given the agreement that Pan would clean up the now frosting-covered girls. Pan didn't understand why he would be so willing to undertake such a task, especially since he had always hated work like that. His true intentions were revealed however, as Pan's phone lit up with vibration, the sudden movement nearly sending it straight into the bathtub with the girls.

The screen was blank, save for one little notification. It was a single message, sent from an old friend, one she hadn't talked to in ages. Upon opening the message, a picture popped out, showing Pan, Cami and Lacey at the party, having fun. Below it was a single caption, written in very simplistic fashion.

My three favorite girls. Wouldn't know what I would do without them. -Trent
