Marceline floated a few feet away from Princess Bubblegum's lab work table absentmindedly strumming her ax bass while Bubblegum looked at various glass containers.

"Stupid, stupid... Ah, glob! I can't do this!" Bubblegum screamed, slamming her hands on the table.
"Course you can," Marceline said turning to face her. "You're super smart; just science it or something."

"No, no, it's not that. The experiment was a success. Here," Bubblegum extended a single red rose. "You should be able to drink the red from this and the color will come back in an hour or so. You can use it in case of emergencies or to decorate your house of something. I finished it an hour ago. Not that anyone noticed. Not that anyone ever notices me."

Marceline moved to stand beside Bubblegum leaning her beloved ax bass against the wall extremely carelessly compared to normal. "What do you mean?"

"I mean no one pays attention to the real stuff I say. They listen to the Princess stuff because they have to but never because they want to! And how do I even know people are legitimately my friends? How will I ever know if people actually want to-?"

"You know," Marceline interrupted, "And if you ever- EVER- tell anyone this, I'll deny it and then ignore you like the plague... I really like spending time with you. I think it's because I like you. Not in an I-Think-You're-Cute way or anything, but I like you. Okay, maybe I think you're a little cute but it's not like... I... You just stand there and make my brain go all stupid and happy at the same time. And don't get that smug look on your face! I'll deny you ever heard this! I just hate it when you're sad because I guess I really like you, okay? Now stop being sad so I can stop being sappy!"

"Marcy, that was really sweet." Princess Bubblegum leaned in and hugged Marceline, giving her the faintest kiss on the cheek.

"Yeah, well I'm not the one made of sugar around here, so don't let it become a regular thing, alright?" Marceline looked really flustered.

"Thank you. I mean it."
