Kol is angry and heartbroken. How could he be so stupid falling for a doppelganger? They were all the same! He didn't know what he had been thinking, telling her that he would give her time. She didn't deserve time. She didn't deserve anything from him. He takes a drink of his whiskey and looks around. He had gone a few miles out of town to get to this bar and he wasn't going to waste it.

He grins when a pretty young girl sits next to him, "Hi. I couldn't help, but notice you sitting all by yourself."

He looks over at her, "Yeah. Just going through a break up."

Her face softens with sympathy, "Oh, I am so sorry. I know how hard that can be." She studies him for a minute, "My, you are very attractive." She blushes, "Sorry, it's just I can't imagine why anyone would break up with you. If you don't mind me asking, why did she?"

He shrugs, "Her old boyfriend, who is a jerk, came back to town. I guess I was just a distraction."

She sets her hand on his, "That is horrible. That girl must be an idiot."

He laughs, "Well, I do enjoy how forward you are. My name is Kol."

She bites her lip, "Sarah. It is a pleasure to meet you."

He nods in agreement. This night was starting to look up.

Bella gets an uneasy feeling as she knocks on the Gilbert's door. Something bad was about to happen. She doesn't know how she knows, but she did. She frowns when no one answers and listens. There was definitely movement inside. She tries the knob and opens the door. The smell of blood instantly hits her and she looks around. Upstairs.

She speeds up there and gasps, "Alaric? Oh my, God. What happened?"

He winces as she touches his wound, "I don't know…someone attacked me…from behind. I didn't see them."

She pulls out her phone, "I need to get you help…" She rolls her eyes, "I'm a freaking vampire." She bites her arm, "Drink, please. You are going to be fine."

He does and she watches as the pain slowly ebbs away. She sighs with relief as the door opens. She sits back as Elena and Matt run upstairs. Elena looks at them, "What happened?"

Alaric explains and Bella lays her head back. That had to be the uneasy feeling, right? Then why was it still there? She just wanted it to go away. She stands up and reaches for her phone. She would call Damon first, "Hey, you need to get to the Gilbert house. Alaric was attacked. He will explain." She hangs up before he can say anything else.

She tries Kol, but only gets his voicemail. The uneasy feeling grows and she realizes what it is. Kol. Was he in trouble? No, that couldn't be it. That was a different feeling. She sits on the couch and ignores everyone else around her. What is going on?

Damon runs a hand through his hair, "How could this happen? Was it Klaus?"

Elena shakes her head, "No. Bonnie did the spell that blocks him out and I doubt he would just stab Ric."

Matt groans, "So this is something else?"

Damon laughs, "More like someone. I am afraid there is a serial killer out there that is human. I just wish I knew what he was after."

Alaric sits back, "I don't know. Who else has he gone after?"

Damon frowns, "The M.E. and you. There really is no pattern unless it's that Meredith."

Alaric scoffs, "I doubt that."

Elena looks over at Bella, who has been silent, "Bella? Are you ok?"

She shakes her head, "No. Something is wrong with Kol. Do you know where he went after you…you…"Her head snaps up, "Oh my, God! How could I be so stupid?" She pulls out her phone and dials Rebekah, "Hey Beks! Have you seen Kol?" Pause, "Ok, ok. Do you know where he went after that…No, Elena kinda broke up with him…Calm down, I know…I just have a bad feeling and you know how our family handles this sort of thing…Ok…Let me know. Oh and tell Elijah. We need all the help we can get."

Elena stares at her in surprise, "What are you thinking?"

She shrugs, "I am thinking that Kol feels heartbroken and maybe angry. When the Mikaelson's get like that we lash out. In horrible, horrible ways."

Matt slowly stands up, "When you say lash out you mean…"

She nods, "Yes, we get murderous. It has a lot to do with being a vampire and a lot to do with our tempers. Combine the two and you get a deadly combination."

Elena lets out a sob, "We have to stop him."

Bella looks over at her, "We don't have to do anything. I will take care of this. You just…stay here."

She speeds out and Elena falls back, "She blames me."

Damon smirks, "Of course she blames you. That is her brother that you are messing with. Most people don't like that."

Elena looks over at him angrily, "I can't help how I feel, Damon! And I am not going to lie to someone. I told him that I just needed a little time."

Damon shakes his head, "Sooner or later, Elena, you are going to grow up and when you do I hope that you understand how playing with other's heads effects them. If you keep hurting people this way you will end up alone."

He speeds out and she falls back, "I'm not trying to play with anyone's head."

Matt shrugs, "You kinda did the same thing to Damon. Sorry, but it's true. Maybe you shouldn't be with anyone for the time being. It isn't going to kill you to be single for a while."

Bella walks towards the bar and listens to the noise that surrounds it. It was all just a bunch of drunken chatter. She sighs and walks inside to see Kol alone at the bar looking more depressed than she has ever seen him. She sits next to him and orders a beer.

He looks up at her, "How did you know I was here?"

She smiles, "Call it twin ESP or whatever it is we have. I had a bad feeling."

He grumbles and finishes his drink, "I didn't kill anyone. I came close, but I stopped myself and compelled her away." He looks over at her glumly, "I wanted to, so bad. I still do."

She puts a hand on his shoulder, "I know. I am so sorry that this is so difficult."

Kol shrugs, "It isn't your fault. I just should have known better than fall in love with a doppelganger."

She turns to face him more, "Human, Kol. She hasn't lived as long as you or me. She doesn't understand how precious her time really is. She will make the right choice, Kol. She isn't like the others. Besides she is going through a bad time. Alaric was stabbed."

He looks up, surprised, "What? Is he alright?"

She nods, "He is fine. I found him and healed him. But she is distracted so be patient."

He shakes his head, "I don't know if I have the patience to wait."

She touches his cheek gently, "Love is patience, my dear brother. I think what she needs most right now is to be alone and figure out who she is. Don't give up, Kol."

He stands up and sighs, "I guess you are right. It just isn't fair. I have never felt this way before and now I am stuck with this horrible feeling that I am going to lose everything."

She throws her arm around his shoulder, "Ah no. You will always have me, brother."

He rolls his eyes, "That is so reassuring."

She grins, "It should be." She laughs at the look he gives her, "Look, I know our family has been through so much and some of us don't even want to talk to others at times, but we will always have each other. No matter what. It might not be what you are looking for right now, but it is all I have to offer."

Kol hugs her, "Thank you, Bells. I don't know what I would do without you. I still have the urge to rip someone's throat out though."

Bella purses her lips, "I really can't help you with that. I can only give you some advice: If you can't resist make sure you find a horrible human being."

He raises a brow, "Is that what you did?"

Bella closes her eyes for a moment and shakes her head, "I didn't care who I killed. I left behind a river of innocent blood, Kol. That is what I have to live with."

He reaches out but she walks out the door before he can do or say anything. He wishes he could take back what he just said. He forgot about the time Elijah calls her "dark time."

Damon had just gotten home when someone knocks on his door. He grins when he opens it up to see Bella. He pulls her in for a kiss, "Just the beautiful vampire I needed to see."

She smiles up at him, "Awh. Did you have a bad day?"

He nods, "The killer killed Caroline's dad. He had a busy night and I don't know why I care."

She puts her arms around his neck, "Because you are a great guy and these people are your friends."

He groans, "Life was so much simpler when I didn't have to worry about any of them."

She tilts her head back, "What about me?"

He smirks, "All I want is you and me and some peace and quiet."

She laughs and starts walking towards the bar, "Well, unfortunately, we have friends and family that we have to deal with." She pours them both a drink, "Speaking of, Kol is in a bad place. Elena has really done a number on him. I just don't know what to tell him."

Damon takes his glass and pulls her down to sit next to him, "She is a hand full. Trust me, I know. Your brother is dodging a bullet with that one."

She slaps his arm, "Someone is still bitter."

He shakes his head, "She bruised my ego, is all. Any guy would be bitter. But I mean what I say. She is drawn to Stefan and anyone who tries to get in their way gets hurt."

Bella lays her head on his shoulder, "No, I think she loves Kol and she will make the right decision. She and Stefan just don't work anymore. I wish she would see that."

Damon puts his arm around her and shrugs, "Sometimes we are blind to what we really need. Like me before you came along. I thought I was in love with her, but I was an idiot." He lifts her head and cups her cheek, "Until I met you, I was more lost than anyone has ever been. I am just glad you fond me."

She laughs, "That was a little cheesy, but I liked it." She kisses him and sighs, "This is nice. I don't think I have been so relaxed in a long time."

They curl up together on the couch and continue talking and laughing. Damon never felt so comfortable with someone in his life. She was so easy to be with and made him feel like nothing else mattered in the world.

A/N: So this chapter is the beginning of Alaric's craziness and also to show how close Damon and Bella are getting. I love seeing a happy Damon.

Also i am a little upset with Elena...as you can see lol. Sorry
