Epilogue
Scotty couldn't be happier. He had five beautiful children. His wife still loved him and he was now Sergeant at Special Victims Unit. His eldest was off to college and his twin daughters were starting high school. "One out four more to go." Lilly said as she slipped into bed with him.
She was still the most beautiful and delectable woman to him. "Who would have thought we would have five children?" She said against his naked chest.
"I did." he answered promptly. Lilly looked up to him. "Remember when I proposed? I said I was going to have five children with you."
She laughed and kissed him. "You couldn't have exactly known. Lisbeth and Lucia were not exactly planned to be twins."
Scotty remembered the shock when they saw the two little beans inside of her. "Why can't you admit that I was right?" He groaned and pulled her under him.
"We don't have to be quiet you know." She smiled at his confused face.
"Carlos is gone. Zara is out with friends, Gabriel and the twins went to a party." She said happily.
"Why? They're fifteen." He said frowning. Lilly straddled him. "We let Zara go out when she was fifteen. I don't see why Lucia and Lisbeth be any different."
"I had Carlos with her. Believe me he was deterrent enough." Lilly distracted him by peppering kisses on his chest. She traced a bullet scar on his stomach. "This was the worst day of my life."
He had been on a case and the perp shoot him. Lilly had been called right away, it was touch and go for a few hours. She hadn't left the hospital, or his bedside. Rafael and Olivia had taken the kids to their home. Carlos was ten and the twins were four at the time.
Lilly became a ghost of herself. He had been unconscious for three days. When Olivia had tried to reason with her Rosa intervened. "This is like his accident all over again. She wouldn't answer or move until Scotty woke up." Thankfully Scotty made a full recovery.
"I know what you're doing Cielo. It's not going to work." He didn't sound convinced. Lil knew she got him when he helped her out of her black nightgown.
Lilly smiled gratefully when Kathryn, his five-year-old granddaughter gave her a flower. She was Gabriel's child. Scotty loved her; she was definitely his favorite. "She looks so much like you. I can see it. She'll be beautiful just like you."
"Cielo Come on. You have to blow the candles." Scotty said. Lilly looked up at him. He was still so handsome. He looked so regal with his salt and pepper hair and his dark suit. His eyes were still the same deep brown that she fell in love with. His face was lined but he looked gorgeous to her. She blew the candles. Her 70th birthday.
That night she went to sleep and felt so happy. She was the happiest woman in the world. She hugged her husband of thirty-five years.
She didn't wake up the next morning. She died in her sleep. Scotty had tried to revive her. His wife didn't wake. "Cielo, wake up. Wake up mi vida." He hugged her to him and cried when he realized his Cielo wouldn't open her beautiful blue eyes.
Carlos had been the one to arrange the funeral. Scotty was devastated. Rafael and Mike tried to hold him together. Rafael had lost Liv a year ago to cancer. "You'll pull through Scotty. It will be painful but her memories will be with you always."
"Rafi. I don't know how to live with her. She's everything, she's my world." Scotty cried and hugged Mike.
It was heartbreaking to see Scott Valens emotionally destroyed. His children had never seen him so distraught. Not even when Abuela Rosa died. Lucia hugged him. "It'll be ok papi." She said with tear in her eyes. "It won't cariño." He replied tiredly.
The children decided to sleep in the old house with him that first night. Scotty didn't sleep. He went to the studio and took out an old photo album. Everything was digitalized now but he loved to look at old pictures. He looked at one in which his Cielo was heavily pregnant with the twins. She looked gorgeous. He flipped to one with all the kids when they were young. Carlos couldn't be older than nine. The twins were toddlers. Lilly was teaching the girls to blow kisses at daddy.
They spent so many Christmas together, so many birthdays and happy memories. He wanted his Cielo back. Lisbeth had been the one to find him. "Dad. I have to go pick up Daniel from school. Gabriel and Zara are making breakfast."
She was surprised when he didn't move or say anything. His head remained on the desk, a glass of scotch by his hand. "Dad, that wasn't a good idea. Mami wouldn't have wanted you to… Dad, Papi, daddy." She yelled for help but it was too late. Scotty Valens died on the way to the hospital; a massive cerebral stroke.
Scotty woke up slowly. He looked at his hands. He was young again. He was in a hospital bed. This couldn't be, he was a sixty-seven retired sergeant. Lil had just died. Lilly died, but she couldn't be dead she was sleeping on a hospital chair. He was so confused. His head was pounding. He was forgetting things. How many children did he have three, four?
His name was Scotty Valens. He was a detective, SVU right? He saw her again. "Scotty?" She smiled a huge beautiful smile. "Lil. Why am I here?"
She touched his forehead. "You got ran over by a car. You're awake." She cried and kissed his forehead and his lips very briefly.
He smiled. She kissed him. This was what he wanted. "Lil, how long was I asleep?"
"A month. The doctor wanted your parents to make a decision but your brain activity was normal. You just wouldn't wake up." She moved to the bed and kissed him on the mouth again. This time longer, it was so sweet. "Lil, I probably taste like shit" She smiled through her tears.
"I don't care. You're awake. Scotty, I promise myself I would tell you. I, I like you very much." Scotty smiled. It wasn't I love you but he knew he could make her love him.
"I had the most wonderful dream Lil. It was beautiful." Scotty said before she kissed his nose and the doctor pushed through in order to examine him. Scotty felt rejoiced, like he had gotten a second chance to have another wonderful life with the woman he loved with his Cielo. He would call her Cielo from now on because she was his heaven, his happy ending.
