Allow me to wipe the dust off my keyboard once again and burden you all with an update.
I suppose I should apologize for my absence. Life just got in the way but it's a new year and the insomnia is at an all time high which means plenty of updates, empty coffee mugs and crushed cigarette boxes for me.
So with out further a do I present to you, Chapter three.
(In the perspective of Buttercup)
I sat there, at a loss for words. This whole time I had spent my days trying to rid the memory of the bastard who broke my heart.
I balled my fist, out of anger or anxiety I couldn't tell.
"Alright I need you to think back to your most recent memory that made you happy' The doctors words broke me from the trance as I pretended to scribble notes on my clipboard.
Butch sat up in his chair and brought his hand to his chin to ponder the thought.
He wrinkled his nose "Well Doc...I guess it had to have been a few years ago' Butch started.
The Doctor turned on a small radio, it played a soothing tune.
For a moment I had forgotten about the whole reason I was sitting in this room. I attempted to reach for my phone to snag the picture so I could get the hell out of this room.
Butch continued on "There was this girl...'
I had dropped my phone.
No, he seriously can't be talking about...
The Doctor scoffed "I'm sorry but these cases are a dime a dozen but please continue'
Butch growled silently "Anyways, so there was this girl. And we kind of had a checkered past'
Again the Doctor cut Butch off "Did this girl mean something to you?'
Butch nodded with a chuckle as he ran his fingers through his hair rather flustered "Yeah I guess you could say that'
I felt my heart leap as I couldn't help but smile.
The Doctor broke my trance again as he tapped his Pen against my clipboard "Notes, you should be taking them' he stated.
I nodded making sure to not speak, last thing I need was Butch to recognize my voice.
Butch continued on "What can I say about this girl, I mean she was perfect. She was beautiful, funny, kind...well at least to me' he chuckled.
The doctor nodded "Do you still keep in contact with this person'
I couldn't help but beam in on Butch when I heard the doctors question, I knew the answer but...well I wasn't sure what I wanted hear.
Butch's face seemed to drop "Well I thought things would have been better for her If I had removed myself from the equation'
The doctor nodded "What made you feel like that was necessary?'
Butch rubbed the back of his neck as if to relieve some tension "Well...as much as I wanted to stay I felt like I would drag her down'
Drag me down... those words sort of stuck to me.
Butch shrugged with open palms facing the ceiling like he had just given up "I'm like a virus that just feeds off the good in people...and I didn't wanna change her. she was perfect the way she was' he smiled softly.
As much as I hate to admit it his words touched me. If it weren't for the doctor in the room I would have jumped and hugged that mushy bastard.
I raised the pitch of my voice a little "She sounds like a hell of a girl'
My sudden chirp seemed to catch both Butch and the doctors attention as they both turned there heads.
The Doctor checked his watch "Well that wraps up our little session' he walked to the door opening it for me.
I looked over at the still blinded Ruff for a moment before getting up to exit. Truth be told I really didn't want to leave.
"Aren't you forgetting something' Butch chuckled.
I froze for a moment, there was no way he had recognized my voice...did he?
Butch chuckled "I heard you drop your phone earlier'
I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding and picked up my phone.
"Thank you' I whispered.
Butch smiled "You're welcome'
The doctor slowly shut the door as I watched Butch wave goodbye in my direction.
I walked with the doctor until we came back to the group of Med students and Brian.
I leaned against the wall trying to figure out weather or not this was real.
This was short lived by the oh so familiar voice "Well that was interesting to say the least' Brian laughed.
I only managed to smile a little, although this time it was genuine.
I guess Brian noticed because his eyes widened "Woah, wait let me guess. You got the picture'
Before I could say anything The head doctor chimed in over the banter of the med students "Well my associates have informed me that the first walk through was a riveting success. Let me be first to welcome you all to the Townsville Rehabilitation Center. As our newest interns we expect you to be ready at any moments notice to help us over see our patients. Our next walk though will be at 7:30 on Tuesday, so go home. get some rest and we'll see your smiling faces on Tuesday' The Doctor smiled with a wave and departed from the group.
A doctor walked by passing out badges "Be sure to update your I.d. since we will be tightening up security next week due to rumors of certain shutter bugs trying to get an image of one of our patients'
Brian chuckled at the mentioning of the word shutterbug.
After I grabbed my badge I started for the door with Brian not far behind.
"So I think I found our quote unquote celebrity' I couldn't help but laugh at the thought that a picture of Butch might be worth something.
Brian handed me a beer from his cooler/seat and sat down "Really now? any pictures?' his voice seemed to jump.
I propped the top off my beer "No...to be honest I sort of got lost in the guys story' I took a swig.
Brian nodded casually, I'm a bit surprised he took it so well "Fair enough, you're going back in with me on Tuesday, right?' he asked.
I shrugged "It's not like I've got anything better to do'
He laughed "We seriously have to work on that social life of yours'
I shoved Brian off the cooler "My social life is fine, what we're doing here. This, right now, is us being social'
He dusted off his bum and sat back up "Here's to the good life' he laughed clinking his beer with mine.
Yeah...this was the good life...
After a few hour of the same old thing, Brian walked back to his apartment across the way and I retired to mine.
After a change of clothes I was back on my balcony, cigarette in hand. Playing with the cigarette butts in the ash tray.
As strange as it felt things seemed different.
The sky seemed a little more clearer, the air a little fresher and the stars a little more brighter.
I smiled as the smoke danced in front of the moon.
Looking down I was actually able to spot the Rehab center.
I don't know how...but I'm gonna get you out of that place...
Butch's Perspective
I laid down in my bed looking up at the barred windows next to my bed.
The moonlight shined through the bars illuminating the fact that I was a prisoner here.
"Hey Butch, you awake' I hear from the second bunk.
"Yeah what's up Ben' I sighed.
"What'd you think of those interns? what a bunch of jackasses right?' Ben said looking over his bunk.
Ben was always like that, didn't expect much from people but never really gave them much of a chance to prove themselves.
He was a recovering meth addict that had been in this Rehab longer then anybody else I knew, but he had convinced himself the outside world wasn't for him.
"I don't know man, mine didn't seem so bad' I said turning in my bed.
"Who'd you get?' Ben asked jumping down from his bunk.
I shrugged "I didn't actually see her'
"Release Therapy?' Ben said rather dryly.
I nodded "As always'
"Did you talk about that girl again?' Ben asked grabbing a box of cards and started shuffling.
I hated when he brought that up "That girl has a name' I snarled a little.
Ben rolled his eyes "Ooookay, Buttercup? was it?'
I only nodded in response.
Ben sat on my bunk "Look Butch, I'm all for the whole follow your heart stuff but at some point you have to let it go man'
Ben was like my reality check sometimes, he wasn't really wise but he was real.
I sighed but looked back out the window up at the moon "Say Ben' I sat up.
Ben looked out the window as well "What's up?'
Something was different about the moon, it was strange "You ever look up at the moon and just wonder who else is out there looking at the same time' I said reaching my hands outwards.
Ben shrugged "I don't know probably'
I chuckled at the craziest thought "Maybe she's out there right now, looking up at the same moon' I hated to say it but I really felt like she was.
Ben patted my shoulder "We all have our dreams...now let's get this game going' he sat on the concrete floor and dealt me a few cards.
I gave one last look at the moon before sitting down across from Ben.
"So the game is crazy eight's" Ben chuckled.
I know you're out there some where...
That's it for now Ta ta ... -Rud3 Boy-
