Chapter 20

Years have passed since Casey and I took the trip to Forks. She still wrote to Jackie, Ally, Connor, and Logan every week. Casey would occasionally got upset and cry when she thought about how she would never see her friends again. But I knew a secret.

Her friends had become vampires and had requested that they live with the Volturi. Naturally, we accepted their proposal and they were supposed to arrive today. I was in the closet of our bedroom as I chose my clothes for the day. About two years ago, I invited Casey to live me in. I remembered the moment quite clearly…

"Hey Caius," Casey sang.

"What do you want?" I asked, looking up from my papers.

"How do you know that I want something?" she asked innocently. I raised an eyebrow and her. Casey sighed. "Fine. Well, we have been dating for two years now. And don't get me wrong, I love my room, but I was wondering if I could room with you?"

"What?" I asked.

"Don't worry! I already moved all my things into your room! Now all you have to do is invite me to room with you!"

I didn't exactly know what was happening. I awkwardly cleared my throat and asked, "Um, Casey, would you like to, err, move in with me?"

"Why I would love to, Caius!" she smiled and skipped out of the room,

I smiled at the memory and wrapped my scarf and my neck. Suddenly, a loud crash sounded from the bedroom, the same room that Casey was in – no surprise there. I called out from the closet, "Casey? What are you doing in there?"

"Nothing, dear," Casey yelled back nervously.

I exited the closet and saw the mess she had in our bedroom. The mirror had broken into a million tiny pieces. I raised an eyebrow. "Well, dear. Your idea of 'nothing' is obviously different than mine. Now help clean this up."

I started to clean up the chards of mirror when I saw a small blue box lid in shock. How did she find this? I stood up with the top to the ring box in my hand. I held it up and nervously asked, "What is this?"

"Um, the thing that destroyed the mirror," Casey said nervously.

"Where did you find it?" I asked, becoming more nervous by the moment.

"Around," she answered vaguely. I gave her a stern look and she sighed. After a moment of silence, she admitted, "After I finished writing my letter to my friends, I may have plopped down on your side of the bed and possibly found the box under the pillow. I accidentally flipped it open and accidentally saw the ring. Not believing my eyes, I could have shut the lid and quickly flung it back open. Well, I may have opened it too fast and the lid may have gone flying off. But, hey, that is just my theory."

I had never been so thankful to be a vampire. If I was a human, I would have been tomato red. "And do you, um, know what this is?"

"I'm not an idiot, Caius. I have seen engagement rings before," she said with a dramatic roll of her eyes.

I took the ring out of the broken box and got down on one knee. "Well, this isn't exactly how I wanted to ask you, but given the situation, and the fact that you will probably bug me about it if I wait any longer, here goes nothing. Now, I know you probably think I'm crazy and you could have a way better husband then me, and-"

"Caius," Casey interrupted. I looked up at her nervously. "Though I find you're rambling rather cute, it would be really great if you could get to the point because Aro wants me in the throne room in about 5 minutes. Plus, I really don't want to stand here all day while you ramble on about complete nonsense."

"Right, right," I mumbled. "Erm, Cassandra Celestia Swan, will you become Cassandra Celestia Volturi?"

I closed my eyes and prepared myself for her answer. It was going to be a no. why would she ever marry me when she had so many other –

"Well, I couldn't possibly turn down such an offer," Casey said as she plucked the ring out of my hands.

My eyes shot open. "Is that a yes?"

"I believe it is," she smiled. I watched Casey examine the ring in delight/

"Do you like the ring?" I inquired.

"Yeah! I love it!"

"Athenodora helped me pick it out," I admitted.

"Shall we go announce our engagement to the rest of the Volturi?" Casey asked as we linked arms.

"I believe we shall," I smirked.

When we arrive in the throne room, Aro has the look on his face. When Aro has the look on his face, he is usually planning something. Most of the time it is at our expense, but this time I knew what he was planning. Aro smiled at Casey and said, "Miss Casey, I assume you are wondering why I called you here."

"Yeah, kind of," she admitted hesitantly. She glanced over at me and I gave her a knowing smile. The rest of the elite guard was trying hard to hide their smiles. I saw Casey getting frustrated as she tried to figure out what we were all smiling about.

"Well, we are getting new additions to the guard and we would like you to be their personal trainer," Aro said.

"Me? But surely Jane and Felix would do a better job than I," Casey humbly said.

"True," Aro said, "but you know them better them better than anyone else here."

The throne room doors swung open and revealed Casey's friends. Casey's face lit up and squealed in delight. "Oh my god! What are you doing here?"

"Obviously you didn't listen to Aro's speech. We have come to join the guard," Jackie said.

"But you have to be vampires," she stated.

"Look at our eyes, Casey," Ally said, pointing to her golden eyes.

"Ew, you guys drink animal blood," Casey said disgusted. After a long conversation, Casey had decided to drink human blood, but only from criminals.

It was the only way the Cullens would let us be changed," Connor explained. "They were the ones who changed us. We decided that we couldn't live without you and all that cliché mush, so we convinced Carlisle to change us. We spent three years with the Cullens before sending a message to the Volturi, asking to join the guard. They happily accepted and sent us a private jet to fly on, since we still can't be around big groups of people. We left the Cullens a note, explaining our departure."

"That is so cliché." Casey rolled her eyes. "But that is why you never sent any pictures."

"Exactly," Jackie said.

"Wow, you guys made up pretty good fake lives to tell me about," Casey said impressed. "Wait, where is Logan?"

"Well, since Logan is a shifter, vampire venom is poisonous," Ally explained. "Plus, everything we told you about Logan is true. Also, he just moved in with his boyfriend so he was content with living a normal life. Well, as normal as being a shifter can be."

Before Casey could say another word, Jackie snatched Casey's ring finger exclaimed, "What is this? Why have we not heard about this?"

Casey laughed. "Because it only happened like 10 minutes ago. Gosh, Jackie clam down."

"It's from Caius, right?" Ally asked hesitantly.

"No, it's from the other guy I am madly in love with," my fiancé said sarcastically. The girls started squealing and jumping up and down.

Aro cleared his throat. "I'm sure the rest of the Volturi would like to know what is going on."

Casey held up her left hand and revealed the ring to the rest of the Volturi. The quickly surrounded her, trying to get a closer look at the ring. Casey gave me a desperate look and I quickly intervened. "I would love for you not to kill my new fiancé with your mobbing behavior."

I was able to drag Casey out of the throne room in one piece. It was still surreal to me that she actually said yes to my proposal. Casey was going to be my wife. It all seemed too good to be true. Once we are safely inside our room, Caius turned to me and said, "That went well."

"How long have you known?" she demanded.

"About your friends?" I asked. She nodded vigorously. "Probably about a week."

"Why didn't you tell me?" she asked.

"That would ruin the surprise, darling," I said in a Southern accent.

"Please don't call me 'darling' and never do a Southern accent ever again."

"But it was amazing!" I protested.

"Sure," she sang.

"Oh, and you can do it better?"

"I believe I can," she said in a perfect accent. I looked down at her shocked. She added on, "When you have a large amount of family in Tennessee, you know how to speak in a Southern accent."

"Fine, you win," I said defeated.

"Yay!" Casey exclaimed. She jumped up and down on the bed. "What do I win?"

"It's a surprise," I teased.

"Why can't you just tell me what my prize is?" she whined.

"The best kind of prize is a surprise," I quoted.

After I said that, I immediately regretted it. Casey burst out laughing and asked, "Did you just quote Willy Wonka?"

"No," I lied.

"Oh yes you did," Casey taunted.

"Fine," I admitted. "I overheard you talking to Jane and Heidi about how you thought Johnny Depp was 'hot'. So I went and watched every movie Johnny Depp was ever in."

"Why?"

"Because I was worried you would leave me for him," I replied sheepishly.

"One, Johnny Depp is just a celebrity crush, every girl has them. Two, I will never leave you in a million years."

"Promise?"

"Promise," Casey said. "Now, about my prize…"

"Oh no."

It was the day of the wedding and to say that I had butterflies in my stomach would be an understatement. It felt like a swarm of bees had made a hive in my stomach. I fixed my green bowtie nervously as I waited to talk with Aro and Marcus. I had to admit, the theme had grown on me.

"But Caius," Casey groaned. "Every Volturi member has had the wedding theme of red, black, and gold. I want to do something different."

"Nonsense, it has been a tradition to do red, black, and gold as a wedding theme for centuries," I stated.

"Well, I'm not a very traditional person. It should be something that means something to us," she explained. We sat in silence for a minute before Casey's face lit up with an idea. "The theme should be Wizard of Oz! It was, like, the first thing we bonded over!"

"Actually, the first thing we bonded over was that there is no such thing as 'happily ever after',"
I mumbled under his breath. Casey paid no attention to my comment. She was too busy planning the wedding.

"Everyone in the wedding party can wear emerald green and I can walk down the yellow brick road, and- are you ever listening to me?"

"In a way…"

"Well, you better listen because this is your wedding too," she scolded. I sighed and turned his attention back to her as she began to plan everything.

Aro knocked on my door and walked in. He was wearing a ridiculous minister outfit. Since I gave Marcus the honor of being my best man, I agreed to Aro's annoying demands of being the one to wed us. "Aro, what are you wearing?"

"His minister's outfit, of course," Marcus said as he entered the room. Aro pouted as we laughed. Marcus calmed down and said, "Do not fret. You look very…nice."

Aro gave me a pointed look. Was he honestly expecting me compliment him? I sighed. "You will be the life of the party."

"Thank you, brother," he said patting me on the back. In only a moment times, Aro had read all of my thoughts. He started laughing uncontrollably. "You made a list of everything that could go wrong? That is ridiculous!"

"Says the man who is dressed in flowered robes," I snapped.

"Caius, what is getting you so upset?" Marcus asked calmly.

"What if she falls down? What if she doesn't say 'I do'?" I asked nervously.

"I'm sure everything will be fine," Aro reassured.

Someone knocked on the door. Isabella Swan timidly peaked her head into the room. "I'm sorry. I am interrupting something?"

"It is alright, Miss Bella. I was just leaving," Aro said.

"As was I," Marcus said as he followed behind Aro.

"Oh, Marcus. Casey would like to talk to you," Isabella said. Marcus nodded and went off in the direction of her old room. Isabella stayed behind and shut the door. "You look handsome."

"I'm sorry, but I only have eyes for your sister," I answered.

"And I only have eyes for Edward, but I can still think you look handsome," Isabella laughed. After a moment of silence, she added, "She really loves you."

I turned to look at Isabella for the first time. I tried to find the similarities between the two sisters. They were both so different in appearance. Casey was tall, toned, and beautiful. Isabella was plain and average. I supposed my opinion was biased. But on the inside, both the girls were the same. They put others needs before their own. Though Casey was more…outspoken, but girls had a big heart.

"I will just…" Isabella started towards the door.

"Isabella, wait," I called to her. She turned her head around. I stared into her golden eyes and said, "I'm sorry I wanted to have you killed."

Isabella smiled. "I forgave you long ago."

"Thank you," I said.

"I have to go. Casey will be needing my assistance," Isabella laughed.

"I'm sure she is," I chuckled. Isabella left me alone. I stared at my reflection. I was going to be a married man soon. It felt so surreal.

Aro knocked on my door. "Time to start."

I followed behind Aro into the ball room. Almost every coven was seated in the large room. I wondered if I was even going to enjoy the night with the amount of vampires here. The wedding march began as Jane, Ally, Jackie, and Isabella walked down the aisle.

Then I saw her.

Casey was wearing a white ball gown with black swirls curling up the side. Her ruby red slippers clicked as she walked down the "yellow brick road". She carried a bouquet of poppies in a woven basket. Marcus was giving her away since Charlie had died in a car accident a few years ago. But even if he was still alive, he would not have been able to come, due to obvious reasons. Casey caught my eye and smiled.

Right before she fell flat on face.

Oh no. The list is coming true! She is not going to say 'I do'! The entire crowd watched as she stood up. Casey took a large bow and continued the rest of the way down the aisle without a single mishap. Marcus took his place beside me and Aro began the ceremony. Since neither Casey nor I were religious, we told Aro that he could keep it short and sweet.

Aro's idea of short and sweet is much more different than mine.

Aro talked for a least an hour in a comically loud, deep voice. He continued to make very flamboyant hand motions that hit my face numerous times. Needless to say, nobody was listening to what Aro was saying anymore.

Casey leaned into me and whispered, "Might as well tell us how Earth was created while he's at it."

I gave a snort of laugher. Aro, and the rest of the vampire attendants, gave me a confused look. Aro slowly said, "Brother, I asked you to read your vows."

"Oh, I'm sorry," I said quickly. It would have been rude to say that I wasn't paying attention at my own wedding. I looked into Casey's eyes and recited, "Cassandra, though you despise your full name, I believe it is the most beautiful name in the world. You are everything that I'm not; gentle, kind, hilarious. The list could go on and on. But I love you Cassandra because you are you."

Casey's eyes were filled with tears after I finished. She sheepishly pulled a folded piece of lined paper from her dress. She took a deep breath and began, "Sorry about the paper, I was afraid I was going to forget my vows. That would have been bad…and embarrassing…but that is not the point. Caius, you are the most stubborn and proud person I have ever met, besides myself. Though you always say that I opened your eyes, I believe you also opened mine. You helped me see past the exterior to find the beauty within. No matter how deep it was buried. And no matter how long it took to dig it out. I love you, Caius. It has always been you, even when I didn't realize it. Always."

I didn't pay attention to Aro as he rambled on about how he first met her. I simply stared into her gorgeous red eyes that were glistening with tears as she recited her vows. I couldn't understand why she chose me to be her mate, but she did. Now we were standing in front of a "minister" about to be wed.

"Caius, do you take this women to be your lawfully wedded wife?"

I continued to stare into her gorgeous red eyes. They gleamed childishly as she waited to hear those two words that would make her mine forever. I remembered the day that we first met, hating each other the moment we laid eyes on each other. Hate at first sight. But fate had other plans for us. It twisted my views of the world, teaching me the long lost emotion of love.

"I do," I said.

"Cassandra, do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

This was it. She smiled and gazed into my eyes. "I do."

"Then by the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride!" Aro said as he threw his hands in the air.

Without a moment's hesitation, I pulled Casey into a deep kiss. The entire room began to clap. Whether they were clapping for us or the fact that the ceremony, which had lasted for exactly three hours and forty minutes, was over, I didn't care. Casey is my wife. She is my wife.

We were rushed out of the ballroom so that it could be transformed into an actual ball room. We waited outside for Aro to announce us. Casey whispered into my ear, "One of the things on your list came true. I took a rather graceful spill down the aisle."

My body stiffened. "How do know about the list?"

"Honey, I know everything," she smirked.

I heard Aro announce us to the guests. I knew what was waiting through those doors. Endless swarms of desperate vampires who wanted to discuss politics and laws. I had grown used to this, but I had a feeling that Casey had never experienced anything like it before. I leaned in her and whispered, "Are you ready?"

"Ready for what?" she asked as the doors swung open. It only took a few seconds before I lost Casey in the crowd. I tried to search for her, but flocks of vampires kept coming to congratulate me or ask about laws. About 10 minutes of desperately searching, I found Casey – standing on the table.

Oh no.

"Everybody! Can get everybody's attention?" she called out. Everyone in the room turned to her with confused expressions. "Everyone quiet down, I have an announcement to make. I'm just going to say this once so you better listen. Now, many of you have been coming up to me with, suggestions for new laws. Truth be told, I have no idea what half of you are talking about. I mean, I know the basic laws, but I don't know the law about when it is okay to go hunting for other vampires. Is there even a law about that? But anyways, if another person comes up to me, or anyone else for that matter, about changing any laws, I will personally evict you from the wedding with a death warrant for if you decide to sneak back in. Thank you for listening! Have a nice night!"

She disappeared into the crowd again. It didn't take too long to find her. I was surprised to see that she was talking to the Cullens. But, then again, it was only Edward she had a hatred for and he did not show up for the wedding. I came up behind Casey and heard her say, "Well, don't tell Caius that. He would probably kill every male here."

"Don't tell me what?" I asked.

Casey looked back and smiled at me. "Oh, nothing."

We walked over to a more secluded corner of the ballroom. I said, "You do realize that we never had our first dance."

"Crap!" she cursed. "How many things did I forget?"

"Well, lucky for you, your amazing new husband has a few tricks up his sleeve," I smirked.

"Oh, really. And what might those be?" Casey inquired. I remained silent and snuck her out of the ball room. I led her into the piano room. Instead if the grand piano being in the center of the room, a guitar and stool had taken its place. I helped Casey onto the stool and picked up the guitar.

"Well," I began, "as you know, I can play guitar. I still don't know how you figured that out, but that doesn't matter. After numerous hours of practice, I think I can finally sing a song to you, instead of it being the other way around. Well, here goes nothing."

I began to strum the familiar tune on the guitar. I watched Casey as she tried to work out what the song was. I smiled softly and started to sing.

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high
There's a land that I've heard of once in a lullaby.
Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream,
Really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops,
High above the chimney tops,
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow, blue birds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can't I?
If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

When I finished, Casey's mouth was hanging wide open. I asked nervously, "Did you like it?"

"No," she stated bluntly. I stared down at the ground in shame. Casey lifted my chin up so that I was looking into her eyes. "I loved it."

She gave me a gentle kiss and hopped off the stool. "Come on, everyone is probably wondering where we are by now."

"Will you allow me to escort you, my lovely queen," I said with fake formality. "We can dance the night away and live happily ever after together."

"I would be honored, my fair king," Casey said as she mimicked my tone. "But I must make one request."

"And what would that be?"
